and the best part? majority of texas voters fall for that dumb shit over and over, thats how theyve managed to stay in power for over 30 years.

u/FiveCrappedPee 7d ago
Republicans are stupid. Texas Republicans are on another planet of stupid entirely. I sadly, unfortunately, lived there for a couple years.
49
u/Apprehensive_Door249 7d ago
My brother and I live in Houston. He was in line for early voting and he said he could hear maga dumb shits talking about âdemocrats have ruined Texasâ. There is absolutely no limit to their stupidity
2
u/honoringanderson24 6d ago
I'd say it's time for us to interject when we hear this kind of stupid shit, but there's that concealed carry thing that holds me back...
1
u/quiero-una-cerveca 5d ago
Thatâs incredible. How the fuck could we have ruined anything? The most flex we had was to leave the state to prevent quorum. And even that didnât really work at the end of the day.

u/bones7056 6d ago
I've lived in many super red states in rural areas, its the same coast to coast. Texas is a bit more proud of how stupid they are thats it. When a community sees intelligence as a negative its not usually a good sign.
11
u/PipePistoleer 7d ago
As George Carlin said, "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that." Texas twist makes it more 3/4. The stupidity is a mix of voting for your own destruction and oppression, and also not voting.
23
u/Cautious-Respond-402 7d ago
"I just don't understand, I keep voting for republicans and nothing good happens and I just can't get anywhere". "I guess I'll just half to vote republican again"!
-15
u/sillyvideogamestuff 7d ago
Some of the best homestead deductions in the country, banned abortions, no income taxes, cheap electricity, a low cost of living, plenty of affordable housing, ambulance fees that are required to be billed to your state regulated insurance, a voucher system for schools, strong 2nd amendment protections. Plenty to be happy about.
12
u/breachgnome 7d ago
Half the shit you listed are bad, but you eat it up like a moron.
Maybe stop falling for the propaganda machine and develop genuine thoughts.

Hahahahahaha where are you living? Electricity is through the roof, and its going to get even higher when these technofascits that have invaded.

They've managed to stay in power because too many people choose not to decide
4
u/Groundbreaking_Dare4 7d ago
Or that the non-deciders are comfortable with the status quo.
1
u/AgitatedMachine1189 6d ago
I honestly think some people vote republican in Texas just because they want that validation of voting for the winner. Inreally hope theyvare surprised this time around. If any democrat wi s this time I think it will do a lot for elections in the state for the next 20 years or more

Alberta has had Conservative rule for the last 100 years. Still don't own a refinery. They blame all the problems on the Liberals. It's fucking sad and pathetic.
2
u/SubstanceFantastic72 7d ago
Iâll admit to being part of that problem in the past. I didnât care about politics and since my family voted R, I voted R. Never once cared about policy. Now that Iâm older and have kids, I actually stay informed and vote for the better policies. So far, it hasnât resulted in any better government, but I will continue to vote for the better person and not the party.
3
u/Munnin41 7d ago
Don't leave out the dumb democrats for not bothering to vote because "it's a lost cause anyway". Less than half of eligible voters turned up in 2024. With some effort you could flip Texas.
2
u/edwbuck 6d ago
Princeton runs a Gerrymandering monitoring project. It tracks the political vote against the popular vote.
Texas is constantly one of the least balanced states. You need 57% of the people to vote Democratic to get a 50% Democratic impact, due to the extensive Gerrymandering.
https://princetongerrymander.netlify.app/redistricting-report-card/?planId=recM1FAerttSPHQrs
How does this work? You take a large land area primarily full of one kind of voter, and you attach a small area of the party you want to suppress, to take it from 100% your desired party to about 60% your party. Then you take the people that will vote against you and concentrate the remainder to districts that no vote 100% against you (to not lose the votes for you where they can't win).
There are 7 voting districts in the Austin metro area. 5 Republican, 2 Democratic. The districts for a swirl of fingers around the city, much like a hurricane. There's no reason for it, except to pick off Democratic voters.
So you see weary Democrats thinking they might not vote, it's because they are effectively disenfranchised. You need 60% of the vote as a Democrat to get a narrow 3% win margin.
And yet, it looks like Texas might flip. That's how bad the current government in Texas has treated its people.
1
u/Delicious-Leg-5441 6d ago
Our county in Texas had 40K people voting on the first day of early voting. A record by 10,000. We are a blue dot in the middle of the red sea.
2
1
u/TheSilverSeraph 7d ago
Yep. This meme asks the question why Abbott does this. He does this because it has a proven track record of it working.
There is a saying that a populace deserves the government they vote in. Sad to say, Texas deserves this.
2
2
u/VGAddict 6d ago
Do the MILLIONS of blue voters in Texas deserve this? Because Texas has more Democrats than any state besides California.
1
u/ignoremycommenthere 6d ago
Yep all you have to do is drive to any small Texas town if you want to see the kind of people that run this state.

u/mightyjoe227 7d ago
Who would continue to hire someone for more than 30 years that does not fix anything.
Repubes have had Texas for to long not to fix anything but their bank accounts.

16
u/hunnyflash 7d ago
It's the culture. It's such a hyper-individualized, literally pull yourself up by your bootstraps culture that will only change with time.
Texas government was specifically made to be confusing, bloated, and ridiculous, and Texans have no desire to change any of it because they elect their friends and family to the hundreds of positions local, county, and statewide, and if they personally are doing okay, then they see no need for change.
8
u/Far_Lead4180 6d ago
Republicans are NOT individualists, they say that because itâs cool, but in reality they are the uber-conformists threatened by everything outside of their narrow world view. They follow each other in lockstep even when what theyâre following is irrational. Theyâre as individualist as drone ants.
1
u/SetYourScapegoatFree 6d ago
And they would sacrifice any one of their values just to get a glowing review in the NYT just once.

u/dagoth_ith 6d ago
Look into uvalde and how even though their kids got murdered due to republican policies and inactions, they still voted red...
5
-2
u/TRL247 6d ago
They were murdered because someone walked in with a gun and shot them. Itâs not the governmentâs fault every time a tragedy happens.
7
u/dagoth_ith 6d ago
The response was their fault. Evidence even suggests that the cops may have shot some kids on accident. They also kept parents from helping their own children when the police refused.
When the response from 300 cops is fumbled and kids die due to it, it's the governments fault. In this case the Republicans government for decades.
7
u/ColoYellow 6d ago
When that government refuses to address the real gun problem in this country and refuses to address the funding for mental health (well really health in general) then it is a government problem.
2
u/BodegaCat11 6d ago
After a child with a curable disease dies because their parents didnât vaccinate them or take them to the hospital
âThey died because a virus got in there and killed them. Itâs not the parentsâ fault every time a tragedy happens.â
Okay, bud!
8
u/TootieSummers 7d ago
Theyâre stupid but they know whatâs going on. The reality is they are so much more interested in making sure the âwrong peopleâ get punished even if it means they get screwed over too. This is something they are totally fine with.
6
u/NeverNeededAlgebra 6d ago
Republicans are the dumbest demographic alive, nationwide. Ain't just a Texas thing.
1
u/-Never-Enough- 5d ago
Then how have Democrats failed to beat them?!?
2
u/copeaesth3tic 5d ago
They don't have a religion they can get the rabble to blindly follow. They also have mainstream Dems (Schumer, Jeffries, that old bitch Trumpers constantly are on about) who actively undermine any fledgling (actual) left movements.
This is why I don't understand the fear mongering around Dems from the fake conservatives (Trumpers). They're inept and it's by design imo. See 'controlled opposition'

u/praetorian1979 1d ago
Because Texas has been heavily gerrymandered to dilute non-republican voters in districts, and have been gutting education for decades, because a stupid populace tend to believe what they're told because they can't think for themselves.

5
u/properpotato10 6d ago
Well when you have generations of misinformation, bigotry, and hatred further burned into the populace itâs pretty unavoidable that youâd just have a state full of idiots.

I was born and grew up in the Texas Panhandle. You're absolutely right. Hatred and bigotry has been ingrained into these people for generations.

u/Ok-Aardvark-6742 7d ago
Intelligence isnât the issue, voter turnout is. The largest voting bloc in Texas is non-voters. And they donât vote because over the past 30 or so years, Republicans in power have gerrymandered and suppressed voting to the point where people are hopeless and/or apathetic and genuinely donât believe their vote will make a difference. This is by design. As a transplant, itâs equally wild and sad to see.
Most of the activism here is towards voter registration and turnout because thatâs the best shot to flip important seats. The biggest hurdle is convincing people that positive change is realistic to the degree that theyâre willing to jump the hoops the state makes us jump in order to vote.
3
u/DenialOfExistance 4d ago
It's those ever believing Bible thumpers who will follow Abbott & each lie he spews because Abbott professes his Christianity as the basis of his existence! They fall for it every single damn time no matter how many lies are defunct!
3
u/OkRazzmatazz5847 4d ago
Whatâs funny is that all they have to do is say they are Christian and that god said whatever they want is the right thing and all these republican voters just fall in. They donât have to actually go to church or show any semblance of actually holding written Christian values.
2
u/C21H27Cl3N2O3 4d ago
Iâm pretty sure there was a story in the Bible about the devil pretending to be god to lead people astray, and Christians are supposed to be able to tell the difference and refuse to follow him. And the ones who do will go to hell.

The great thing about the Internet is those of us who want to find information, can find that information.
I found it quite appropriate that immediately before this post, was one in r/TIL titled:
TIL Britain paid slave owners ÂŁ20 million (roughly 40% of its annual government spending) to abolish slavery in 1833, while the 800,000+ people they enslaved received nothing. British taxpayers continued paying off government debt linked to that compensation until 2015, 182 years later.
So the thing about modern society is that kind of "governance" is reaching it's absolute end. People really don't understand that thing about how "you can kill a person, but you can't kill an idea" applies to both good and bad ideas. The Internet can end bad ideas. How? By proving them false.
1
u/edwbuck 6d ago
The sad thing is seeing the people that use the internet, then claim that any evidence of the obvious requires citations / news articles / etc., which if recent history is to be believed... it their God given right to receive, blocking any conversation to their favor, and then upon receipt, will be ignored as quickly as received.
I feel that people somewhat understand that asking for something expensive (in time, effort, etc.) to provide is a great way of shutting down conversations.

Expand this to the entire country; Congress controlled by GOP, Executive Branch, same. Supreme Court is conservative. Most governorships and state legislatures are GOP-controlled. How can any reasonable (key word) person think the Democrats are responsible for any of our current problems?
I get a particular hoot out of the GOP campaign ads here in Florida promising to reduce taxes, bring down the cost of living, and reduce housing prices. The GOP has controlled both the governorship and legislature since 1999. The problems they keep talking about are issues that occured while they were in charge and are problems they have had more than enough time to fix.
Guess we're not supposed to think about that.
5
u/Overall_Koala_8710 7d ago
Someone needs to open a fucking dictionary for these people too.
The conserve in conservative means to try keep things the way they are: shitty.
The progress in progressive means to try to make things better.
4
u/MixGlittering1652 7d ago
I've found "conservatives" often times are not. One example: They went on and on about previous Supreme Court decisions were "activist," creating law out of thin air. But.......Recently, the "conservative" court ruled that the President enjoyed limited immunity from criminal prosecution for official acts. Nowhere in the Constitution can you find any such idea. In fact, the Constitution specifies that there is "equal protection under the law." Well, if the President enjoys immunity, is that "equal?" Anyway, the entire notion doesn't seem at all conservative.
There is adequate historical record that the Founding Fathers didn't believe the President should be immune from prosecution for crimes comitted in office. Thomas Paine and Alexander Hamilton (an advocate of a strong Chief Executive) were among them.

The reason I am SOOOOO frustrated with Democrats is that they have completely failed to capitalize on these facts. They should be flooding the airwaves pointing out Republican lies and hypocrisy but it's like they just rolled over and died save for a few luminaries like Talarico. Broadcast the obvious, let people know your game plan and maybe this red scourge can be eliminated from Texas once and for all. At the very least Texas with all its diversity should be a purple swing state.
7
u/Msagtab 6d ago
They should be flooding the airwaves pointing out Republican lies and hypocrisy
I don't think you realize how unrealistic this is. This takes money. That's sort of the entire reason our Democracy in this country got turned to shit with Citizen's United. Turns out billionaires and big lucrative industries have a lot more money to throw at whatever party is going to be nicer and bend over to their demands. This is the Republican party they're dealing with, they'll do literally anything and aren't tethered to any political morals or ideals. Democrats will never have the same money at their disposal. So Republicans have the money to flood the airwaves, Democrats pretty much don't, as far as fundraising they have to rely a lot more on spam campaigns that annoy the shit out of even the constituents that vote blue. Hell, even that takes money.
On top of that, as we've already established Texas is Republican controlled. This can manifest against Democrats in several forms. This cycle we've seen Gina Hinojosa struggle to get information out to the public about texts between Abbott and Musk. She basically has to challenge a Republican government to rule against their own party in a timely fashion. In 2019 there was an AI ad challenge that took way too long to get anywhere because Republican created deepfakes were being used to smear a Democratic candidate. Prior to that Paxton filed a lawsuit as AG against a Democrat organization that made ads on a bunch of horseshit reasons that would never happen to Republicans. They control the government and have all of the ability to make sure they don't have to play fair while the Democrats are hamstrung.
Now if that weren't enough, most stations, at least in my area, are owned by Conservative media concerns. This obviously presents another layer of challenges.
So I hear what you're saying but I think it's steeped in the kind of narrow scope of typical leftist concerns directed at their own party that ignore the real mechanics of the bigger picture.
3
1
u/Pretend_Ad_8465 6d ago
Using too many words to say a WHOLE bunch of nothing. I have always been an independent never registered to either party so I do not get why you'd attack me as a leftist for stating obvious facts. Its clear that right wingers like you are hell bent on ensuring that the Dems never wake up and completely give up! Outreach and civic education really doesnt cost that much and the the money IS there, Democrats just do not allocate it appropriately because the national party leadership is myopic, deeply flawed amd beholden to too many special interstate groups. They CAN do it but they REFUSE to do so.
1
u/CelticSnakes 6d ago
This, 100%.

This is the sad truth a lot of us are waking up to. The democrats are in on the grift, just like all capitalists in power. They play the game and fool us by throwing the progressives a bone every now and then, but itâs always âgosh darn it if we didnât just lose again!â on every bill that would make positive and meaningful change for 90% of society.
We should all feel betrayed and vote them out. Who are we voting out? Well, anyone from the old guard who actively destroy things for the benefit of the elite (republicans) and anyone that pretends to care but ultimately gets paid by the same donor elites and have their interests in mind solely (democrats).
Most of our politicians are compromised and donât care about us, basically.
2
u/9fingerwonder 6d ago
I'll take the occasion bone vs being dragged back to 1950 "idealized" america. No politician is going to align to everything I want but one side tries, poorly, while the other takes great effort to remove the progress we have gained.

Reminds me of our Federal Government.
Republicans control the Executive Branch, Republicans control the Legislative Branch, Republicans control the Judiciary Branch, but the Republicans blame everything that is going wrong in the United States on the Democrats, especially Biden, Obama, Bill Clinton, Hilary Clinton, and practically every other Democrat since WW-II.
When will the Republicans finally realize that they are part (or even most) of the problem??
