It wasn't politically smart to say that during her campaign IMO, I think even Bill allegedly said something to her about it, but she was nevertheless dead-nuts correct. Only thing I quibble with her over is the percentages.

u/Alternative-Web-3545 10d ago
The things the other party uttered was far more disturbing and despicable imho. But that didnât get really noticed for some stupid reason

u/Ol_Turd_Fergy 10d ago
âBasket of deplorablesâ is apparently worse than âgrab them by the p*ssyâ
21
u/TheModWhoShaggedMe 10d ago
and worse than "Killary" and "Lock Her Up" and mocking the notion of it being a woman's turn (after 2+ centuries of men leading the country), somehow.
1
u/DiamondHandsToUranus 10d ago
It is, but mostly because they like their labels short and dumb.
'The solution to pollution is dilution!' is pushing it - woah down there smarty pants - even though it was coined by one of "their guys".
If it's not as simple and catchy like 'flip flop' or 'med bed' you're virtue signaling as "other".
That's not their team. That's 'not like us". They don't side with "other". Ever.

u/Acrobatic-Yam6882 10d ago
It is obvious the level of corruption, moral depravity, etc. that we are witnessing in the Whitehouse. But to insult a large group of voters in the middle of a campaign -- the campaign for the presidency -- is the MOST STUPID thing ever done by a presidential candidate. Sure, DJT's comment was worse, but it was years, decades before he ran. I know, it doesn't undo it, but in terms of effect on the presidential campaign, it is minor compared to what she said. How arrogant do you have to be or how surrounded by sycophants, to think you are some kind of immortal/unstoppable Queen that you can insult an entire swath of the electorate and not have it effect the swing voters in the middle????
0
u/Acrobatic-Yam6882 10d ago
This is like calling your NFL opponent a weakling deplorable on a Saturday before playing them on Sunday. It doesn't work out well for you. Obvious to some, not to those who drink the Kool-Aid.
5
u/SpockShotFirst 10d ago
Because tho only job of the oligarch controlled media is "Manufacturing Consent."
We need to reverse Bellotti (the 5-4 Supreme Court case from 1978 that led directly to Citizens United) and criminalize election interference by for-profit corporations (maybe with an exception for employee-journalist owned news outlets).

So many of us found her relatable. For every 100 people that called her "elitist", there were at least a handful of us that watched her, the educated, sharp as a razor political operative, being stuck in the same hell we were, only broadcast on live TV.
And I'm not even a woman. It's only because of empathy that I have the barest inkling of this being the lived daily experience of pretty much every intelligent woman in the USA.
But then we have had this archetype since the tale of Cassandra.
0
u/dealingwithhookers 10d ago
i mean her husband was literally who Trump is now. back then, Trump was a tamer dude than Clinton, at least form a public's point of view. he was a television personality so he got cut some slack on the things he was saying. but Bill Clinton was actually impeached for the Monica Lewinsky thing or had to step down.
and for a lot of people that was the mark the Hillary carried. she's bringing that dude back to the white house. she's wearing these designer expensive suits.
she was who we see Trump is now.

The sentiment and the statement was correct and the issue was that no one ever listened to the whole quote:
â
But the "other" basket â the other basket â and I know because I look at this crowd I see friends from all over America here: I see friends from Florida and Georgia and South Carolina and Texas and â as well as, you know, New York and California â but that "other" basket of people are people who feel the government has let them down, the economy has let them down, nobody cares about them, nobody worries about what happens to their lives and their futures; and they're just desperate for change. It doesn't really even matter where it comes from. They don't buy everything he says, but â he seems to hold out some hope that their lives will be different. They won't wake up and see their jobs disappear, lose a kid to heroin, feel like they're in a dead-end. Those are people we have to understand and empathize with as well.â7
u/FFBEryoshi 10d ago
It can be painful to hear the truth, especially when the truth directly destroys someones self perception.
3
u/Imaginary-List-972 10d ago
I never buy that reasoning. She was talking about Maga, Trump supporters. They're voting for Trump no matter what. "I'm a Maga Trump supporter, but I was going to vote for Hlllary until she said that". And she said that about the racist/sexist/homophobic section of Trump supporters. So "She said racism is bad, so I'm not voting for her". So you gotta act like you're for racism to get the racist vote and act like you are against racism to get the non racist vote. I always love that she said SOME trump supporters are racist and we call them deplorables, and they said "Hey she just called me deplorable". But again I don't buy "they were racist trump supporters but they would have voted for her until she said that about them". If so, why don't we now get "Trump called them Dumbocrats, they would have voted for his maga candidates until he called Dems dumb".
2
u/WhompBiscuits 10d ago
Yep. Because if you were Maga then and heard what she said and immediately identified with the latter part of what she said, then you're guilty of it.
And it's not like she didn't know what she was talking about. Although she is originally from the Chicago area, she lived in Arkansas for a large portion of her adult life. She saw more than enough.
1
u/Imaginary-List-972 10d ago
Really? You're actually going to go with "Maga, Hardcore Trump supporters were possibly going to vote for her instead of TRUMP, until she said that. She lost their vote"???? REALLY????
1
u/RealBrobiWan 10d ago
No, she said half of all people who support Trump are irredeemably racist sexist xenophobic etc. she called 10âs of millions of Americans scum going into a large election, and you canât see that was stupid?

u/AskPizza 10d ago
She knew because they had been turning their ire at her all her career, ever since she suggested universal single payer healthcare until Bill Clinton, which never got implemented.
But the far right lost their shit and invented lies about her ad infinitum ever since.
Because she wanted people to not die from treatable ailments nor go bankrupt, and all it would have cost was people like Elon musk a few fewer billions than he has, which are already too many billions to ever need.
She knew because they went after her before they went after the rest of us.
But she was never wrong about them. She was right to call them out, but not enough of us had her back on that.
16
u/kobrakai1034 10d ago
She worked on Nixonâs impeachment for Watergate so it goes waaaay back
0
u/Acrobatic-Yam6882 10d ago
Funny, Bob Woodward, who helped uncover Watergate, tells about her backstabbing and undermining her own husband. She called him, "The Mechanic in Chief," to mock his supposed leadership weakness. And she did it to the media/press.

it was more like people didn't believe her. at that point, she was already proven to be a less popular candidate amongst working folks. she lost against Obama, who was a nobody when he beat her. people who aren't super left, just don't like her.
i remember when she ran against Obama, people around me, in a blue state, in a blue neighborhood, were saying how she's just an aristocrat, rich lady who is singing the song you like to hear, and then got the excuses to not do anything.
that's why when she was debating Trump, there were moments when she had to shout "that's what i wanted to do tooo, we agreee on somethingss" it's because even she knows, that people don't believe her.

She was right about everything that's why they vilified her so much, they feared her, so they had to destroy her.

They had her pre-demonized by the time she ran, so it was easy for them when the time came.

u/Darixindur 9d ago
Both parties do this. I think it can get ridiculous. These days both parties are worried about being the ones with the "correct" answer to a problem... no one fixes the damn problem. Then again... I'm not doing anything about it... so I'll just sit here, enjoy my cold drink of choice and watch.

-3
u/Maleficent-Clue5056 10d ago edited 10d ago
We're talking about her positions from the 90's that she flipped on? I'm talking about everything she did a decade later as the third most powerful person in the executive, as secretary of state under Obama. Libya and Syria are direct results of her policies, decisions in which Obama stated she convinced him of. Its easy to pretend she wasnt a vile racist who furthered american imperial interest in the middle east, when you're a white person living in the west.

3
u/DaKingaDaNorth 10d ago
Nobody is, but it's massive cope at this point to pretend she wasn't the far superior option. Worst case with her is you get a continuation of Bill Clinton/Barrack Obama style Democrat politics. Nothing super progressive, some definite flaws, but generally a steady economy movement, some initiatives that help the middle class, etc. The worst thing would be that she would be about as hawkish as her husband and Obama, but after this Iran War, it's silly to even pretend at this point that the other guy was more peaceful. I can pretty guarantee a Democratic admin is not getting involved with Iran.
-4
u/Acrobatic-Yam6882 10d ago
Wow. Were you alive when she ran for President? They didn't fear her, she was selling out access to the White House and sucking on BIG FINANCE's dollars for years before she ran. She is establishment. The establishment doesn't fear those it has already bought and raised.
4
u/petty_throwaway6969 10d ago edited 10d ago
Where did you even get establishment from? They meant MAGA who voted him. The people who ran months of âbuttery maleâ smear ads against her.
Stuff like this is why I canât take both sides people seriously⊠For some reason its hard for them fathom that people would rather have an established politician than a known criminal who is actively screwing the country right now. And then they act like their actions havenât directly hurt us already.

She screwed herself by running a server out of her closet. Dropping that so close to the election was the death knell. She made her bed.

Let's be clear. Two million more people voted for Hillary Clinton than the monstrous rapist felon violent insurrectionist. She was right about everything. Please donât forget all the major media had her as 97% favorite on election night predicted as a complete landslide . We will never know why she truly lost except she lost independents for sure after the deplorable comments. Also, do you remember seeing 65 year old seniors being beat up walking out of Trump rallies? I do and when she was shown video, Hillary laughed at it . She lost me after that and probably millions more independents. Because NO ONE deserves to get attacked physically for attending a political event .
1
u/GravitasFailures 10d ago
No we didnât.
Everybody assumed sheâd win so there was no point in voting.
The problem was: the south loved Trump like he was their own, he spoke their language perfectly and that language was racism.
The âmajor political analystsâ simply cannot appreciate the overwhelming hatred in the south, itâs like trying to understand why Nazis are the way they are, you canât get it just by taking polls.
1
2
u/GravitasFailures 10d ago
You have no idea what youâre talking about.
MAGA was born when we dared elect a black man president over them.
Nothing else mattered, that was absolutely unforgivable to them, they considered it a personal insult directed only at them, from their point of view we put a monkey over them just to mock them.

Trump routinely bullies half of the population and calls them all sorts of names. Hell, he even calls his own supporters suckers and idiots to their faces and they love it. Iâm so tired of one side being held to a higher standard of âunityâ and âcivilityâ while the other side smears shit all over the walls. Hillary did not lose because she made a single mild (and correct) statement about a segment of American voters.

Agree or disagree with her policy positions she is obviously an incredibly smart person and when she speaks in public its usually a fairly well reasoned or thought out statement even if itd not the most sound from a political or PR point of view.

u/DaKingaDaNorth 10d ago
Most of what she said about Trump ended up being spot on. People might not like her. But she absolutely clocked him and maybe current voters aren't prepared to hear it because they are too entangled, but a few decades from now their will be kids reading history books knowing Trump's reputation and seeing videos of all the stuff Hillary and others said about him before getting electing.

Yes she was always 100% right and I even rooted for her as she said this. But it still should have been Bernie.
Plus, it looks like her husband is in that basket, too! She should really stick to name-calling people who can't fight back. Like the central park 5 and calling black children super predators. It definitely worked out better for her.
