5 months of mostly potatoes results

BMI 5/8 24.9

10/9 21.9

Cholesterol 1/6 218

10/7 198

I eat 75% potatoes 25% other whole vegetables and fruit, olive oil, and seasoning. Celebration food is less strict, I don't sweat small portions of other stuff about once a month. And you will pry my half and half for coffee from my cold dead hands.

So even non-rigorous potato diet has pretty impressive results! No added exercise. Another note, I'm just not very hungry anymore and the food noise is gone. I wasn't expecting that but it's really nice.

And how are you feeling overall?

Fine, which was how I felt before I changed my diet. Certainly I don't feel worse :-)

Would you mind sharing how you are preparing the potatoes? I feel like I have googled this diet 15 ways and I'm coming back with regular potato recipes. Maybe I am overthinking this and I know this diet would work for me.

I am very boring and 95% of the time they are microwaved whole, halved, and eaten with salt and infrequently a small amount of olive oil. I don't usually add any other seasoning. I want my daily food to be utterly unmemorable, not great or terrible, just fuel. When it tastes delicious I want more than I'm actually hungry for, you know? I actively avoid variety.

I eat any whole plant that's around, too. Fresh fruit, cooked veggies, beans, lentils, cooked whole grain. As long as it's not refined or has added sugar/fat, I'll eat it.

Once every few weeks or so I'll have some standard American diet kind of food eaten in community with my family or at church after liturgy.

My preparation method:

  • Add water to a pot

  • Wash potatoes

  • Remove any bad spots. Leave the skin on.

  • Cut each potato in half and then slice into slices about 1/2 inch wide. (I slice mine hasselback style, but I doubt that matters much)

  • Add potatoes to pot

  • Make sure there is enough water in the pot to completely or almost completely cover the potatoes.

  • Boil on medium heat for about 45 minutes

  • Drain, reserving a bit of liquid so that the potatoes don't end up too dry.

  • Add salt to taste. I generally avoid adding black pepper, becuse it seems to mess up my stomach when I'm on the potato diet.

  • Mash

Potatoes are the real deal!!! I've lost about 30lbs last year eating mostly Potatoes. Although I no longer eat as many as I used to eat, I'm still maintaining my weight.

Very nice! :)

I've noticed less food noise while on potatoes, too. In fact, I'd say that I've noticed less noise about addictive things in general, which has been very nice. In that way, I think potatoes and GLP-1 may share some similarity.
