I hav a i5 Pixelbook Go, and since ChromeOS updates end in June 2029, I'm thinking of using the Linux version of Chrome through Crostini to keep the laptops up to date with modern chrome. Has anyone tried this?

How does it compare to regular Chrome in terms of speed, RAM usage, battery life, and video playback?

Are there any issues with using it as your main browser? Would i be better off using Linux Firefox instead?

It won't update beyond ChromeOS 150. I have the m3 with the 64Gb drive. Is 150 the limit?

Experience: setup didn't take long (30 mins total). Performs better than my "serious" hardware now - just blazingly fast, no lag on any actions, instant wake on lid raise etc.

A few bugs that needed fixing, like function keys weren't being recognised initially, but very easy to fix with the built-in agent.

(Omarchy is an Al-first Linux distribution built on Arch Linux and the Hyprland)

With the help of an amazing local shop, my Google pixelbook go not pink is alive again! They had to exchange the motherboard and battery with a black donor laptop. But I couldn't be happier. I got it when it first released back in 2020. Did I get it fixed purely because I love the way it looks? Absolutely 😆

I have recently purchased a brand new i5 Pixelbook Go (made in December 2020) which I thoroughly enjoy using as my travel laptop (my main laptop is a M1 Pro MacBook Pro). I am getting about 5-6 hours of mixed usage (Youtube, internet browsing, typing up documents), which I think is impressive after 6 years. Is this expected with the battery health is 100% (battery was at 0% when I opened the box)? The reviews from 6 years ago are saying that it can go longer but I expect with newer software (maybe more demanding), it takes the battery out quicker. Anyone can share their battery usage with their devices would be very appreciated!

Tragically, after 6 years of use my pixelbook go not pink has stopped turning on. I brought it to two shops, both have said it's most likely a battery issue. I've been looking into my options and came to the conclusion that the most cost effective option is to buy a black pixelbook go ($120 for a model with a defective camera) and hopefully transplant the battery.

Has anyone attempted this? Were you successful? I'm going to have ubreakifix do the actual transplant but I'm just a bit nervous if it will actually work. I have a new dell laptop but I just love this laptop so much.

I got this using Rufus and all the drivers (I put it in order) on my GitHub page: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1z29b-zFvfzYjM029l6L_Bj65GnFo2YcO/view?usp=sharing

My Pixelbook is a fantastic machine! I still use it often. I noticed support ends August 2027.

To get the most out of it, I think I'll make it my daily device for the next year.

I'm trying to use Citrix Workspace to VPN into a customer, but when I use my phone as a hotspot, Workspace doesn't seem to want to fire up. Which apparently is a thing with Citrix Workspace. Apparently if I can set my Pixelbook to use my phone's network connection via a USB tether, it will see that I now have a ethernet connection, which I suspect Citrix Workspace will be happier with. I have the phone set inside developer options for the default USB config to be USB tethering, after I connect the cable, I can switch on USB tethering, however it isn't doing it. It seems like the Chromebook just wants to charge the device. I'm using a brand new Anker cable which should be ok

Hey All,

I've had an experience with my pixel book not turning on and on charges on inside and flashes orange and makes a funny clicking noise.

I love my pixel book and would love to get it fixed if possible. I live in Australia and there aren't any places I can find that specialise in Google so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Big love

it's been working reliably forever.

today i updated and restarted; logged in; started linux terminal

it shows the startup indicator:

'[===] Ready'

and then briefly flashes an error. by recording it with my phone i was able to see this message:

ERROR vsh: [../../../../../tmp/portage/chromeos-base/vm_host ... /vsh/vsh.cc:240 Poll timed out after waiting 6 seconds.

my web searches came up empty.

has anyone seen this?

any suggestions to try before i powerwash and set it up again

Update 2026-06-15: powerwashed and reinstalled linux. has been working for 48 hours

I'm looking to replace/install Debian on my Pixelbook Go. Before you bash me and ask why, let me explain. I'm a network engineer by trade, some of the tools/apps I need to do my job are unfortunately Windows apps. I don't consider myself a Chromeos power user, sure I can probably use crostini or crossover to run the needed Windows. The way I see it, these apps run in a nested Linux virtual environment and can be a little wonky.

Has anyone replaced Chromeos with any sort of Linux distro? What was the process like? What was the experience like? Did you run into any issues with the hardware/drivers, like the wifi or sound card not working correctly? I've read some forums and blogs online, it seems pretty straightfoward.

I'm considering buying a used Pixelbook Go with the Intel Core m3 processor for $160.

Battery health is 100%

My main use would be web browsing, YouTube, Google Docs, light coding, and general productivity.

Would you buy one for $160 in 2026, or are there better alternatives at that price?

Thanks!

Not particularly holding my breath but it’s cool to see another google branded machine. Who knows what we will get?

Looking forward to learning more about it !

Got this on eBay i5 8GB ram for $80 had a burnt out USB-C port apparently

I happened to see this laptop in a video and prompted me to get one. I also like the Samsung Galaxy books the red metal one in particular. I got ubuntu installed on it, out of the box it has problems like no audio, suspend, etc... can fix but was a good buy.

This is not dual boot I wanted only ubuntu

Suspend

When the laptop boots hit the settings, in there is a setting for suspend type, disable modern and use ACPI

I have one of the original Pixelbooks (i5-75Y7 1.2GHz, 8GB RAM) that I installed Windows 10 on several years ago. Windows 10 is no longer supported, so can I upgrade this thing to 11? Should I?

thx

My fave computers of all time were the Google Pixel and Pixelbook Go. At EOL the latter was replaced with Lenovo Chromebook Plus Flex 5 at 3.48 lbs, which totally lacks the spirit of Google's own machines. What's the closest I can get among today's models across all Google-partnered brands?

2017 pixelbook has these spots that showed up recently. Can only really see it on dark screen and high brightness.

Hi together!

I've got a 2017 Pixelbook, which I really enjoyed to use.

But then, after not using it for 3 weeks because of a holiday trip, it won't turn on.

if I plug in the charger in, the red charging light turns on and after a while the light turns white/green, but I won't turn on. I tried different hard reset button combinations, but it doesn't showed any signs of life.

I gave it to a repair shop to check on it and they said the board is gone.

Is this a common issue for 2017 Pixelbooks?

and is there anything I could do?

thanks in advance!

Hi all,

I have had this pixelbook for quite a few years now and never had any issues with it. About a month ago it would freeze almost instantly upon start up and i can not do anything to fix it.

Is this some sort of fatal error in the tech or is it something fixable.

I would try to update it or factory reset it but as soon as the home screen comes up it freezes and i can not do anything.

Any advice would be great thanks.
