Question/Help Strange behavior

I got this mouse from my niece a couple of months ago. He is around 3 years old.

The last two days, he has been out more than usual and looking around. Earlier today, he was sitting at the highest point of this cage and was squeaking loud enough that I heard it over the TV. He did it two or 3x.

This is him now. He is sitting at the high point again and he sounds maybe congested? He is very lethargic too but he’s eaten normally. Any advice?

I can see if my vet takes nice but I honestly don’t know. I’m new to this and it’s freaking me out lol.

He is sick. He’s got an URI, upper respiratory infection and needs to go to a vet to be given antibiotics. Soon, if he’s lethargic, if not he could suffocate

Thank you so much! I’ll take him tomorrow.

Do you have any short term ideas? Should I keep him warm or anything else? My husband is also doing research and he said they go downhill quickly.

Mice are fragile little things and they can go downhill quickly so you should keep an eye on him until tomorrow. I’ve heard that steam can help decongest them a little. You could turn the shower on hot until steam builds up, then you can take him into the bathroom so the steam opens up his airways a little. Stay with him in there for a max of 15 minutes.

Keep in mind it won’t treat anything since it doesn’t go away without proper antibiotics but it’ll help him out a bit

Thankfully, I already have an appointment for our dog tomorrow. I just don’t want him to die overnight. Do you think it would be safe to put him in a critter keeper with an under the take heater? I’ll try the steam too. Thank you so much for answering so quickly!

Of course!

I wouldn’t panic TOO much. He’s loud but from what I can see isn’t gasping for air, not that this isn’t bad but it’s not the worst it can be. He should be okay in his own cage and it might be best so you don’t stress him out too much since it can worsen it sometimes. I’d let him be and if you’re able to just try to check on him every once in awhile
