Advice pls??

My friend’s doctor said she can’t eat:
meat
Fish
legumes
Avocado or olive oil

She has to be dairy free, gluten free and paleo

What can she eat? I’m trying desperately to find recipes or ideas that will give her proteins and nutrients.

She likes smoothies and pastas and baked goods so if you know of anything that could work for that it would be ideal as she’s also autistic and some of her safe foods won’t be safe anymore. She is also a beginner cook so simple is best, thank you guys!

Chicken is her best protein.

• Leafy greens, cruciferous veggies, root vegetables, berries, apples, mushrooms.

• Nuts and Seeds: Almonds, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, flaxseed, chia seeds, and nut/seed butters (like almond or sunflower butter).

• Flours: Cassava flour, almond flour, and coconut flour.

• Healthy Fats: Coconut oil and full-fat coconut milk.

• Natural Sweeteners: Pure maple syrup or coconut sugar. Agave or stevia, maybe?

Sounds like soy is gonna be her best friend here. ETA - NOT SOY, it's a legume.

No meat would rule out chicken, surely. Unless they mean no red meat. But, OP, as you’ve realized, this presents a protein problem. There are protein powders but they’re pea, marine, or beef, with the only exception I’ve ever found being one from Walmart that was coconut based. Carrington Farms was the brand, but it did also contain pea protein, just a little further down the list.

Is this a short term elimination diet? If not, there’s all kinds of red flags here about this “doctor.” If he’s legit he should be hooking your friend up with a nutritionist or providing some other resources.

For protein, I’d suggest eggs.

Corn. Corn is 9 percent protein.

Corn is not paleo friendly

I recently went paleo (minus a few things), and I promise your friend is going to feel so much better soon!

Interested to know why the doctor said no meat? Does he just mean red meat? Why no fish? And olive and avocado oil?

Sweet potatoes are so versatile and can be used in lots of paleo baking recipes.
Are you sure she can’t eat chicken?
So many veggie dishes. Salads. Curries. Soups. Think of paleo as substituting, not restricting.

I also love baking. The whole process AND the results! Get some cassava, coconut, almond and tapioca flours - they’re so handy. Good quality nut milk and coconut milk. And she can easily make her own baking powder with the tapioca flour. I can’t eat egg yolks right now but I bake with just the whites.

Have a look on Pinterest for paleo baking recipes - there is a lot of REALLY good stuff out there and I haven’t truly missed my pre-paleo treats because these paleo versions have satisfied me. You just need to read the comments, and it’s a bit of trial and error to find the best ones.

I just started making these this past week as tortillas: https://unboundwellness.com/sweet-potato-norwegian-lefse-paleo-aip/

Good luck to your friend! It will take time to adjust and not feel overwhelmed, but it’s so worth it!
