Final: MIL 3, TB 4 (12)
The Rays play the Brewers later today, 8:00 PM ET. Catch-up · From first pitch
The Rays opened the scoring, fell behind in the 12th, and answered with Ben Williamson's walk-off.
In the bottom of the 2nd, Chandler Simpson reached second on a double that scored a run, and the scoreboard first moved in favor of the Rays, 1-0. In the top of the 4th, Cooper Pratt doubled home a run, and the Brewers completed the climb back to 1-1. In the bottom of the 4th, the defense recorded an out on Jonny DeLuca's ball, but a run scored, and the Rays claimed the lead at 2-1. In the top of the 5th, David Hamilton belted a solo shot, and the game returned to even terms at 2-2.
In the bottom of the 5th, a scoreless response from the Brewers made the rally stand up. The 6th through 11th innings were scoreless. In the top of the 12th, Cooper Pratt put a run on the board with a homer off Ian Seymour, and that gave the Brewers a 3-2 advantage. In the bottom of the 12th, Jonny DeLuca drove in a run with a single off Shane Drohan, and everything was square at 3-3. The threat produced more, Ben Williamson collected a base hit that scored a run off Shane Drohan, and the Rays won it with the game's final play.
Aaron Ashby supplied the standout relief work and worked 2 1/3 innings without allowing a run, giving up no hits and collecting three strikeouts.
Final: The Rays won 4-3.

Ngl I'm kinda glad the Rays avoided the sweep. Would've been annoying all offseason if we were the only team to beat them in the playoffs, cause we really weren't anywhere close to being a championship team.
Would be funny if Rays came back from down 3-0, but it's not happening. Brew Crew gonna come out pissed in game 5 and end it tomorrow night.

brewersâ defense crumbling đ
The rays live for another day
As someone with no dog in this race, itâd be cinematic if the rays come back and win this đ

Props to Tampa for holding on this long, but going arm for arm with that Brewer bullpen is a real tough task.

I know the Rays are up as of the writing of this, but if the Brewers go ahead and end up winning tonight, itâll be further proof that the Padres are always the bridesmaid, never the bride đ»đ»đ»

Anyone else wants the Brewers to sweep so Preller has more time before the lockout?
4
u/old-spaghettios22 10h ago
I've been seeing people complain about this being a boring world series because of how one sided it's been, but I was begging for a sweep just to get the offseason really started lol

u/Silver7477 6h ago
This has been the best world series in 3 years idk what everyone else is talking about đ€·

Final: MIL 10, TB 1
Catch-up · From first pitch
The Brewers set the terms with the first run and never trailed afterward.
In the top of the 3rd, Christian Yelich sent a run home with a base hit, and the Brewers got the scoreboard moving with a 1-0 advantage. The attack continued, William Contreras brought in a run with a single, and the Brewers built the lead to 2-0.
In the top of the 5th, Brice Turang delivered a two-run single, and the Brewers pushed the margin to 4-0. Still in the inning, Garrett Mitchell drove in a run with a single, and the Brewers gained more breathing room at 5-0. They were not done, Cooper Pratt reached second on a double that scored two runs, and the Brewers kept building, now up 7-0. Another run followed, Sal Frelick knocked in a run with a double, and the Brewers made it a 8-0 game. The pressure stayed on, David Hamilton put a run on the board with a single, and the Brewers moved farther ahead, 9-0. There was more to come, Jackson Chourio doubled home a run, and the Brewers widened the gap to 10-0.
In the bottom of the 5th, the Brewers protected the momentum with a scoreless response. The 6th through 8th innings were scoreless. In the top of the 9th, Steven Matz retired Joey Ortiz for the final out before the Brewers could cash in their runners. In the bottom of the 9th, Yandy DĂaz's double scored a run, and that ended the shutout bid without erasing the deficit.
The pitching story belonged to Robert Gasser, who worked six innings without allowing a run, giving up one hit and collecting three strikeouts.
Final: The Brewers won 10-1.

New owners and most of the important parts of the team locked down besides SP. positioning ourselves to truly get over the final hurdle, need them to go out and finish the roster with a new budget

u/KTF-2026 1d ago
This is what happens when the best team in baseball gets red hot...nobody stands a chance
29
u/Stuck_in_a_thing 1d ago
Youâll never convince me otherwise that if we could have made it past the Brewers we would have won it all this year
6
u/awesome6710 1d ago
Highly doubt it. Winning a 5 game series is easier than winning two 7 games. We only had 1 starter that could pitch more than 5 innings and our bullpen was running on fumes with no morejon. This wasn't like the 2024, we most likely would've lost to LA.
3
u/MongoBongoTown 1d ago
Real possibility we're the only team to beat them in the postseason.
1
u/rmanz12345 1d ago
Do you think we had the pitching to beat the Doyers especially without Morejon?
3
u/awesome6710 1d ago
Not a chance. Robbie Ray and maybe JP Sears would've had to pitch since the team for whatever reason didn't trust Randy. We could've taken a game or maybe two but most likely we would've lost.

Watching the Rays offense is giving me flashbacks to 24 scoreless innings. Pure pain

u/padresandcubs 1d ago
No team has even gotten the Brewers to an elimination game. If they sweep, this will be one of the most dominant playoff runs in MLB history.

u/Thumper13 1d ago
We were so close with the Brewers. Nobody has looked nearly as good against them. That series still stings.
10
u/Sniflix 1d ago
Both teams play the same game - station to station hitting, great bullpen, defense, etc. Milwaukee however has no weaknesses, no holes, anywhere and the Padres did.
5
u/padresandcubs 1d ago
Offensively, Brewers remind me a lot of the 2024 Padres lineup at its best.
Brewers ranked 1st in team AVG and OBP this season.
2024 Padres ranked 1st in team AVG and 6th in OBP.
7
u/Background-Sock4950 1d ago
We may have had more holes, but if morejon doesnât get inured pitching in game 1, miller doesnât go for the 6 out save, and weâre tied up 2-2 going back to Milwaukee where anything can happen. Sure they had more depth but damn only a few moments decided the fate of the series.
5
u/Sniflix 1d ago
Yes but those glaring holes made it all more likely the Padres would be on the short end of bad bounces and missed opportunities. Lack of a deep pen was a known issue that came back to bite them. And the Brewers have a full starting rotation which the Padres never had. Look at this game - 1 hit for the Rays.
3
u/golfzerodelta 1d ago
Letâs not further the false narrative that Miller needed to pitch any more than 3 outs. We had a ton of options outside of him pitching 6 outs.
14
u/TheLoneTomatoe 1d ago
If they sweep, then the Padres are the only team to take a game off them this postseason.
At least itâs a good NL team to root for
8
u/padresandcubs 1d ago
Itâll be interesting to see how well this Brewers does in the next few years. Their core is relatively young and if they keep to their philosophy itâs another potential beast in the NL we would have to deal with.

u/iruntoofar 1d ago
They have a stacked farm system as well. Turang and Contreras are the big looming free agents though
1
u/padresandcubs 1d ago
According to Fangraphs Contreras has a club option for 2027 and Turang will be an unrestricted free agent in 2030.
1
u/iruntoofar 19h ago
Turang had more than I realized. Contreras is at the point theyâve historically traded players who they wouldnât be able to sign again. With the labor strike coming and his importance in this run itâll be an interesting to see what they do.

u/Ill-Ambassador9705 1d ago
Preller, Feliciano and Kwanza has to look at this and be more inclined to spend this off season. Like they have too at this point. This team with a gassed out bull pen and 1.5 starting pitching gave the brewers the hardest time this post season
9
u/old-spaghettios22 1d ago
Honestly this one doesn't sting nearly as much as '24, mostly because I don't believe we had the pitching this year to get much further in the postseason had we been able to survive the Brewers. The back end of the pen was already on fumes and we had like 1 1/2 SPs. '24 felt like it had more potential if the offense didn't fully flatline.
4
u/Lurking_Overtime 1d ago
Thank you. I can't believe people actually think we'd play as well as the Brewers if we advanced. Between Morejon (whose shoulder injury is still a mystery) and Musgrove taking a roster spot, we didn't have the arms.
With how the team managed our staff our bullpen went from fresh after the wildcard to utterly wiped out by game 3 of the DS. Typical sports karma that it's yet another former Padres manager who outmanaged us.
5
u/old-spaghettios22 1d ago
Yeah, this wasn't a world series caliber rotation at any point to say the least lol. I definitely question some of the bullpen usage decisions (like not using Morgan at all), but I think even if Stammen/Niebla handled things differently our lack of starters would've caught up to us quickly. Going to the pen by the 4/5th inning of every non-King start was already grinding some arms into dust.
3
u/Doctor_Juris 1d ago
And if Musgrove doesnât blow up his arm in his first postseason start in â24.
6
u/drewdude92 1d ago
Just like 2024 - whoever won our NLDS series was going to roll to an easy World Series title. Weâre almost there
3
u/pineapplefriedriceu 1d ago
I hope preller is calling our new owners right now telling them that we are this close b/c we really are and for them to open up the brink trucks. Get King, Morejon, France back, get Suzuki, get one of the japanese guys, Shota and we good

u/old-spaghettios22 1d ago
Been looking at upcoming free agent SPs lately and still don't know what to make of Freddy Peralta, especially after tonight. I think I like the idea of him more than the actual present day results. I guess his best Brewers days still come to mind when I think of him, but nowadays the results and underlying results don't seem worth any big bucks. Curious what his market will be though.
2
u/pineapplefriedriceu 1d ago
I'd rather get Shota, shouldn't be a long term commitment, we are a good destination for japanese FAs, and darvish
4
u/old-spaghettios22 1d ago
I do like the idea of getting a solid lefty in the rotation for the first time in a while.

No place to hide against that Brewers lineup, once they got those breaks against us itâs been all cylinders go for them.
4
u/TheRealPort 1d ago
Honestly itâs starting to look like a miracle we even got one win against this Brewers team
4
u/Surf_Padres_Beer 1d ago
I said this during our series and the NLCS... the brewers are fucking relentless on offense... 2 outs, and five runs in- so far... you are never in the clear with this team
4
u/pineapplefriedriceu 1d ago
Holy the brewers are a wagon. It might be looking like weâll be the only team thatâll get a win off them

Will the off-season posts run all winter or just until spring training starts?
1
u/SDFriar 1d ago edited 1d ago
Donât know how the new bots treat spring training but Iâd assume weâd start getting gameday threads again.
u/re-verse and u/0xgod are the developers of the fancy bots the mods are looking at and can say for each of theirs.

u/0xgod 1d ago
There are certain dates that things will still be posted during the offseason. Awards, hot stove transactions, countdowns, season recaps, etc. Thatâs all part of the Daily Discussion function. Itâs set to do that league wide - as well as team specific if itâs filtered.
The app is also always looking 10 days ahead. And once it sees a game is coming up it will start posting GDTs againâŠSpring Training as well.
0
u/re-verse 1d ago
Ok, checked the API:
Spring training games come through MLBâs feed the same as regular season ones, every pitch tracked, win probability, highlights, so Dinger will post threads for them once games start in late Feb.
0
u/re-verse 1d ago
Spring training stuff, thats an interesting idea. I'm going to work on something special for that, as long as the APIs have anything they put out for it.
Also did you guys happen to see the new run/home run animations? I think its the thing I'm proudest of yet in the app, and I'm going to try my best to keep adding improvements like that over the cold months as best as I can.
