Question Getting permits for shipping container

Hello, Just wondering if anyone has gone through the process of getting a permit for a shipping container? If so what was the experience like?

I think it would depend on what you’re using the container for, that would determine how you would get the permit and what kind of permit you would need to get.

Providing more information is going to get you a better answer.

I want to use half as storage and the other half as a workshop.

I have no suggestions, but that sounds like a very cool idea.

Ah, that's unfortunate that you're in a municipality that asks for one, not all areas on the Island require a permit for them as they are not technically a permanent structure, and also fall under the sqft number for needing one. That being said the process should be fairly straightforward, the only issue you may find is that someone may take issue with the aesthetics depending on the area your in.

I'm in York, I wasn't sure if they had any bylaws out this way but I was told by development control that I need permits for it.

No one will give a shit in York. There are other people that have containers that I am 100% confident that do not have permits.

If your in Charlottetown good luck. They will not give you a permit and will actively harrass you with a city official paired with a city police goon if you just get one and place it on your property.

What’s a shop-worthy shipping container going for these days?

I overpaid for mine a few years ago. Mine was $7000. I've seen them going for $4000 or less now

Its mobile, not stationary- no permit needed
