Discussion - General Do you think that would happen if main denominations becamed affermative?

• Upvotes

What do y'all think would happen if main denominations(like catholicism, evangelism, ortodoxs etc) would start becoming affermative? I think that some denominations (like cstholicism and protestantism) are Pretty close...but what would happen if MOST churches started supporting It? Do y'all think that the numbers of gay Christians would rise in future generations because of this?Maybe a new boom in terms of believers?

P.S, i don't think MOST traditionalists would accept the change if It happened Recently....I'm Pretty sure It Will happen now or sometime....but i also think that some homophobic denominations Will start rising if already non-affermative churches would stop being homophobic...

Discussion - General Recommended reading

Hello! I am working to explore my faith and learn more about the history of Christianity. I am working through my NRSVUE study Bible and I am currently reading The Making of Biblical Womanhood by Beth Allison Barr, and would love recommendations of books like it. Thank you!

My girlfriend is an atheist, and I'd like help on how to respond to her questions about Christianity

She say's stuff like:

"The belief of God and Jesus and Christianity honestly confuses me. All of these things people say about God feels like another fairy tale."

She's also said that missionaries on our campus that try to "recruit" people to the religion look like cults.

I can understand why Christianity might seem confusing or unbelievable to someone like her, but I don't always know how to respond to these kinds of comments.

If you've had conversations like this with atheist friends, partners, or family members, I'd especially appreciate hearing what you've learned.

Young adults in San Diego: anyone interested in an LGBTQ+ affirming worship and prayer night? (Or know of one?)

Anyone in San Diego area? My fiancée and I live in Encinitas and we've been looking for a group of young adults (20s-ish) who want to worship and pray together in a space that's fully LGBTQ+ affirming. We haven't found one, so we're putting out feelers.
First question: does something like this already exist around here? If so, please point us to it. We'd love to join instead of reinventing the wheel.
If not, we're thinking about starting something small. Worship music and prayer, maybe once a week or every other week, at our apartment. If it grows, we'd move it to the beach or someone else's place.
The heart behind it is love. A lot of us have watched the church become known more for who it shuts out than for how it loves, and that's not the Jesus we read about. We're not pretending sin doesn't exist or throwing out what Scripture says. We just want to bring the focus back to loving God, loving people, and actually being in community with each other. This wouldn't replace church. Think of it as something extra alongside it.
Nothing is planned yet. We're just seeing if anyone else wants this too. Let me know if you'd be interested, or if you know of something we should check out.

Support Thread A word to uplift Latter-Day Saints and Jehovah’s Witnesses that frequent this sub. Why is this sub a home for you?

I don’t mean to start a debate on whether we belong here (I’m a Latter-day Saint, colloquially known as “Mormons”). I don’t mean to paint us as victims or villains. I don’t even mean to start a conversations on if ours or other religions are valid forms of worship.

All differences aside, I just come bearing an olive branch and a hug from a distant stranger. I appreciate you for being here and standing for your values. LGBTQ+ people deserve to attend whatever religion they feel called to or born into without policies or doctrines that make them feel less-than.

I know what it feels like to not squarely feel you belong in any one religious subreddit, and I know what it feels like to not have full feelings of belonging among those you attend church with.

You support LGBTQ+ having full fellowship as who God created them to be. That puts you at odds with your church. The church you belong to puts you at odds with many people. I offer you the warmest regards. If you don’t feel comfortable commenting here, you are more than welcome to DM me. You are not alone. I see the efforts you are making to make the world a more tolerant place for LGBTQ+ children of God.

How did you come to be in this pro-LGBTQ+ space? Was it an LGBTQ+ friend or family member that caused you to ponder? Did some other aspect of unfairness prick your heart and cause you to support their cause? I’d love to hear your story. ❤️

If you aren’t a Latter-day Saint or Jehovah’s Witness, or other marginalized religion, you are more than welcome to participate on this post. Just know I come in peace. I don’t mean to cause offence or stir controversy. Love you all. Love this sub. Happy Tuesday 🫂 🏳️‍🌈 ✝️

Christian single mom by choice

Hi!

I am 24 and wanting to become a single mom by choice with donor sperm. I never even considered the Lord might have a problem with it and I prayed over my child, their life and my donor choice. But now I got scared of hell. I know fear of hell should never be the motivation for a Christian to do or not do something and thus, I feel very ashamed but I wanted to be honest. I did grow up without a father myself, which didn't change anything regarding my faith or my mother's. But I am also catholic and my church says no to IUI, or at least the Vatican, my personal congregation doesn't necessarily. I have prayed over the child so much and also begged the Lord to decide himself whether my insemination would be successful in the best interest of my child. If He sees suffering without a purpose or not. I also found a donor that made me cry from joy after already having given up on finding a good one. I want to raise the child in a Christian household and to teach them to love and pray. But I don't want to go to hell or make God sad and disappointed. I also know that the Bible says some will be lying to us, so we think we can do whatever we want. I don't want to succumb to this. Then again, I still believe God alone decides who comes here or doesn't, IUI or not.

Feel free to disagree with me but please be honest and kind.

Support Thread Self Hatred and Insecurity

i have a lot of self hatred. i constantly pick out everything wrong with me. i constantly compare myself. and honestly i subconsciously always wish i was someone else. i can’t stand being left in a room with myself.

Here’s the caveat: those are all just symptoms

it’s not a sin struggle. it’s not childhood trauma. it’s not any reason i could possibly think of. i believe the reason is deep and hidden. for some reason i just can’t feel and accept gods love and image of me even if i know it to be true. i truly believe God has gifted me with the ability of emotional intelligence, and the ability to read my own thoughts and emotions, find issues, and bring them to the surface to workout. yet this i simply cannot find the deeper issue

there’s no real reason i should hate myself and be so insecure, yet i am. and for me to get help from God i feel i need to have the ability to truly dwell on the real reason and fight it with scripture and analyze it.

it often leads to problems in my relationships. for example if i’m ever in a romantic relationship, i always feel as though i could never be loved truly for who i am, this makes me strive to be someone i’m not which makes me even more insecure. and what’s even worse is the slightest mention of another man in any aspect of their life will leave me stalking their social media, comparing myself, and ultimately decided every single time that they are better in every aspect then me. Verbal affirmation from them just feels like a lie. and i never feel like enough. whether it’s that this person has more money, is stronger, has a better jawline, better hair, is funnier, is even more healthy to be around, whatever it is i will always find it. i try everything to make myself the best version of myself, but i always will find something more to be insecure about. there is almost nothing about myself that i wouldn’t change. Then if i do have a day in which i feel loved by that person, i expect to come home happy. but i still have that deep sadness. that deep wish to be someone else. that depression.

I’ve prayed about it. i’ve meditated on the scripture. anyone who thinks to reply with “God loves you and sees you as perfect so you should see yourself the same”, or “your not supposed to put reliance into earthly things like relationships” does not understand that i know that. i have read the bible cover to cover. i know how im SUPPOSED to feel, and how im SUPPOSED to handle situations. but i can’t seem to do it. my heart doesn’t know that security. my heart doesn’t know the love for myself that is based on the love God has for me. i hate this feeling. i hate being insecure. i hate relying on other peoples empty affirmations to feel ok. i want to be at the point where if a girl where to leave me for someone else i would be sad at losing them, yet completely ok and secure in gods love, my self love, and gods plan for me. yet as it is i would be destroyed, depressed, and contemplating my worth on this earth. what my mind knows and what my heart and soul experience are disconnected. it’s like a car in park with the engine running; it’s ready to drive but there is no connection to the wheels. please help. please share any resources.

TLDR: i hate myself and am wildly insecure. it leads to a lot of insecure attachment in relationships. it makes my life miserable. my knowledge of gods love does not translate practically and consistently to the love i feel from myself and from God.

Vent Had to leave a queer sub recently

I've seen multiple queer christian posts on the sub and every time the comments were filled with hatred towards Christians and religion. I even commented on one and people were telling me how stupid and awful I am for being Christian. I'm so tired of this shit. I know it's because they have religious trauma but that doesn't make it hurt any less. It makes me feel hopeless. How am I supposed to handle the fact that some fellow queer people will see me as a traitor for being Christian?

Support Thread How do you deal with your own hatred and anger?

The last two years of US politics have divided us all, I would imagine. I've increasingly had whole days of anger and rage at what is happening, and people who I thought were good people support the most immoral things possible. Last week I hit a tipping point when I got banned from my state's subreddit after calling the mod a "fascist shill." Tbh, I still think that is true, but I also recognize I mostly was taking my anger out on him/her. They then reported me for "harassment" and because Reddit definitely doesn't use real people to assess reports, I was banned from the site for a few days. It was probably for the best, though.

My friends also have a chat where we dump all political thoughts and such. Generally it has been helpful to just allow people to vent about stuff, but a few months ago there was a time when I was ranting about the whole "both sides" and one of my friends who is a far-right libertarian (who claims to be a centrist) had apparently been having a bad day and went OFF on me. Apparently had recently seen some out-of-context clip on Twitter of AOC saying "we will pull up" and was insisting she was suggesting violence. And that was his whole reason for thinking "both sides." We eventually made up and agreed to disagree, but that day we did spend probably 1-2 hours saying very not nice things to each other. I eventually just deleted this chat since it was mostly me screaming into the void.

Recently I've been trying to listen to the podcast https://karintamerius.substack.com/. I am trying to apply the advice here to my life, but I am struggling with the idea of validating insane conspiracies and straight up false information. I know that "validate" doesn't mean I have to agree, but I believe their fears are definitionally invalid. Idk, it is something I am still working through.

How have you dealt with feelings of hatred and anger at those who would oppress and twist the word of God for anti-Christ purposes? How do you deal with those who would vote for such evil?

Discussion - Sex & Relationships I want to bring more Christianity into my relationship

Like the title says I want to bring more Christianity into my relationship. We're (29F & 28M) both Christians, love Jesus, and go to church but I feel like faith is lacking in our relationship. I'd really like a relationship centered around God. How can we add more Jesus without sacrificing things like sex and intimacy. Not looking for judgement or hate just ways to bring my relationship closer to God.

When those evil fleshly thoughts come first realize it and say out loud

“These are evil desires and they lead to death, I choose to not be a slave to sin but rather to righteousness which leads to eternal life”
(You can rephrase)

Bible references: Romans 6
Ive attached images of the chapter for easy reading.

God bless you
