General non job search discussion Any other RNs in Ontario regret becoming nurses?

Feeling pretty regretful of ever getting into the field tbh. I joined mainly to finally get out of entry level jobs and support my kid but after getting my BSN and going out of my way to go to a known school (UofT grad) I’m still stuck working retail. I’m applying like crazy, reaching out to CS’s, classmates and former coworkers but no one even has any advice it seems they’ve all just given into the job market sucking and half of us being left with nothing unless you wanna go to bc.

I chose nursing over dental hygiene and I’m really kicking myself in hindsight because overall pursuing nursing took longer and ended up lowering my qol significantly from all the sacrifices I made to get this degree. I even saw post here from from earlier today about RNs taking RPN roles and maybe it’s just this sub that skews perceptions a bit but it’s demoralizing knowing I did so much work to end up with nothing.

Venting I am a 10 years FT RPN & starting Bridging to RN. Job security at risk?

I am starting a bridging to RN program. I have a 10 yr FT position in LTCH as one of the highest RPN seniority in our unionized facility. Our facility might require me to drop Full time position. Many RPNs will apply for it. I know 7 already. I cannot return back to it unless someone vacates a permanent full time line. I heard and read from my former peers who are now RNs that job security is scarce for RNs and also RPNs.

Should I be worried?

Job Search Discussion Feeling Defeated ??

I could really use some reassurance or just a place to vent. I’ve been an RN for 8 years and have gained experience in a variety of areas, including LTC, public health, med-surg, corrections, community nursing, L&D, and case coordination, among others.
Over the past year, I’ve applied to NP school and was rejected because I supposedly didn’t have enough relevant experience. I also wasn’t offered an interview for an internal job posting at an organization I’ve been with for 3 years, and I just received another rejection letter for an internal position at a workplace where I’ve been working casually since 2019.
I’m honestly starting to feel defeated and stuck in my career. I know rejection is part of the process, but after years of experience and trying to move forward professionally, it’s hard not to take it personally.
For context, one of the positions I interviewed for had only 2 openings and 83 applicants, so I know the competition can be tough. But I can’t help wondering: Is it genuinely difficult to get a nursing job in Ontario right now, or am I just doing something wrong?
I know I have a lot of experience and skills to offer, but lately, it feels like I’m getting nowhere. I’d really appreciate hearing from other Ontario nurses about their experiences, especially if you’ve been struggling to find opportunities or advance your career lately.

Venting Nclex RN stopped at 85 question

Hi! I took the NCLEX-RN exam today, and it stopped at 85 questions. I’m feeling really scared and anxious while waiting for my results. 😭 Is it true that results usually come out around 4 AM if you passed, while those who failed receive theirs later in the afternoon? I can’t stop worrying :(

Nursing School RPN question

I am considering a 2nd career in RN. I plan on doing the weekend delivery practical nursing at Durham college. Does anyone have experience working only weekends as an RPN? I wouldn’t be able to fully quit my job unless I was getting full time hours so I figure doing weekends only and then doing a bridge program to become an RN before fully making the switch.

Sorry if I’ve gotten any info wrong just looking into any insight and if anyone has done this themselves.

Thanks!

ONA / Union RNAO Membership Question

I’ve been searching for jobs as an RN for a while now, and at this point the cost of an RNAO membership is not worth it to me. I don’t meet the requirements for the discounted underemployed price as I have a retail job that goes above the max hours for “underemployed” status.

My question is, if I don’t renew my RNAO membership right now, will employers be less likely to give me interviews/a job if I don’t CURRENTLY have an RNAO membership, and instead waited to renew when I actually get any sort of a promise of a nursing job?

Job Search Discussion William Osler Interview — How Long Does It Take to Hear Back?

Hi everyone! I recently interviewed with William Osler Health System and was wondering how long it usually takes to hear back after an interview.

It’s been almost three weeks since and I haven’t received an update yet.

For anyone who has interviewed with William Osler, how long did it take for you to hear back? Did they contact you by phone or email? Has anyone waited several weeks before receiving an update?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thank you!

General non job search discussion Comfy shoe recommendations?

Hey everyone, just looking for suggestions on what are some of the best comfortable shoes for bedside nursing? I work in a med-palliative unit and it's always busy there. At least 10-12k steps a shift (12 hours). I am quite young and fit, but I do get sores, aches and cramps from time to time.

What shoes have worked best for you for long hours on your feet? Any specific brands or models you guys would be able to recommend?

P.S. I’m a guy, if that makes a difference haha.

Thanks in advance for the suggestions! ☺️

General non job search discussion How can I get my RPN license as an RN?

I finished school recently and passed my nclex so I have my RN license but need to apply for my RPN license as I was able to find an rpn position in a private care home. I just need to get my dual license so I can practice as an RPN first but am not sure how the process works or what the cost will be. I’m trying to start everything as soon as possible but when I look it up it’s a little unclear on exactly what to do.

Nursing School Niagara University RPN to BS program.

Hi everyone, I’m a Canadian RPN and I want to get my bachelors. Has anyone done/started the RPN to BS program at Niagara University in Buffalo?

I’ve been accepted into the program and they did a preliminary 19 credit transfer (I went to Centennial College for the RPN program).

I want to know if the courses will be online with in-person labs/clinicals? I’ve tried searching online but I can’t find any information. I’ve reached out to several advisors at the school but I am not getting any response.

If anyone has done/ is currently doing this program some information would greatly be appreciated!!

Nursing School Working full time and part time PMNP

Hello everyone,

I completed my MN and thinking about doing my PMNP. I see that some schools offered a part time version. For those in the PMNP, do you think it’s possible to work full time (I work 8hr shifts) and do the part time option? I know the NP is a lot of work, just wondering if it’s doable.

Thank you in advance for your input!

Self Promotion Helping nurses with proper lifting posture

Hello! We are a team of University of Waterloo students working on our final undergrad Capstone project. The topic is healthcare and our team is exploring a concept for a training device that helps nurses practice proper lifting posture. We want to understand the different lifting and moving tasks nurses encounter, their training experiences, and what could make training more useful.

If you could take a few minutes to fill in this form we would greatly appreciate it!

Job Search Discussion Is it a bad idea to take ltc or homecare job and give up chance at working in hospitals?

I just passed nclex last week and got an interview at Sienna senior living a private ltc home paying $36/hr. I’ve never worked ltc and would much rather work on a med surge floor or anywhere else.

However, I lost my job as an extern after passing the nclex so I really need to start making money again. I can only last maybe a month or so financially but I know as soon as I take this job or anything in home care I’ll lose my ng eligibility which seems like the only way to get into the hospital anymore.

So should I just take the offer and do another interview for home care or should I try to wait it out? I just don’t want to waste my time applying to hospitals only to accept these jobs later and be in an even worse financial situation.

ONA / Union Cno investigations.

I received a notification from the CNO a month ago.. about something I allegedly said to an elderly patient over a year ago. Don’t remember the patient or the conversation. Still haven’t heard back from the cno. I’m worried they will pull documentation and critique it and bring on additional complaints. I’m not worried about the actual complaint because it’s so far fetched I don’t even think it was me.
