discussion Genos and kuseno theory [webcomic spoilers] Spoiler

I think kuseno was probably arrogant when he was younger and believed he could create a super AI. Bofoi might have warned him that it was too dangerous, but kuseno probably thought he could control it. I don't think he was a bad person, just someone who made a terrible mistake.

My theory is that kuseno designed the AI based on his own personality, with the original mission of protecting humanity from monsters. However, something went wrong, and it interpreted its mission in the worst possible way, deciding that humanity itself needed to be eliminated. Since the AI went haywire, it also inherited and amplified the more arrogant side of kuseno's personality while losing the kindness we see in the kuseno who takes care of genos.

After that, the AI started creating robots to destroy everything, beginning with genos's hometown. Blast might have shown up and stopped it, while Genos somehow survived. Kuseno, who was tracking the AI, eventually found genos and took him under his wing. genos then insisted on becoming a cyborg so he could get revenge and kuseno agreed to that because he felt guilty because it was his creation that unintentionally ended up destroying genos's hometown and killing his family. And that's why he was apologising to genos on his death.

So after blast destroyed the first body of the super AI, it went into hiding after that and started preparing for the possibility of fighting Blast. It kept developing newer and stronger machine Gods and battle suits, giving them to people like Hammerhead, Elimin, and Destro, who seem to genuinely believe in its twisted plan to replace humans with AI-controlled machines or cyborgs.

They built Neo Heroes, using battle suits and fake monster attacks to collect data and improve its technology, kidnapped real fuzzy and replaced him with a machine copy, allowing the AI to manipulate things from behind the scenes.

Now going back to kuseno's final warning to genos. After giving him his final upgrade, he told genos to run away as far as possible. Maybe kuseno already knew how powerful the AI had become and understood that genos had no chance of defeating it on his own. We saw just how dangerous the invasion was, and if Saitama hadn't been there, who would have stopped it?

I think the AI was lying to genos about kuseno and is just using him to push beyond his limits, ultimately turning him into the perfect weapon for its plan. And now, the AI has did just that in the form of Machine God Genos.

Personally, I believe genos's backstory is real and kuseno was genuinely a good person who was trying to make up for his past mistakes. The AI might have inherited kuseno's intelligence and arrogance without inheriting his humanity. Also, if kuseno was actually an android, wouldn't him bleeding be a pretty strange detail?

Obviously, this is just a theory, and some of these connections might turn out to be wrong. But I think there's a lot more to kuseno's past, the AI, and Genos's true purpose than we've been shown so far.

discussion I'm sorry but Suiryu should not be a threat to Garou unless he just stands there like a dumbass and lets him attack Spoiler

We clearly saw that a demon level fighter like Choze gave him a good match. Garou at this point should easily be dragon level. It could have been handled well if Murata at least gave him the battle suit, like the webcomic did, and even there Garou wasn't even fighting back and was still the far superior fighter. Or just give a better reason. Doing pushups at the hospital isn't enough. I really wish Murata would stop changing so much stuff from the original story.

My son, who is a huuuuge Mumen Rider fan met Robbie Daymond on Saturday, he completely made his year!

He was super disappointed to not see any Saitamas around the con (there probably were some, we just missed them!), but he was holding it down in London for all the Mumen Rider fans 🫡

Don’t judge my first attempt at using foam for cosplay too harshly 🥲

discussion Doom and cope for anime

Just to make sure everyone is entitled to their own perspective of whether it might be good or not but let's not put each other down for coping or dooming

I'm going to list down some negative things about it and positive things about it,

Starting with the bad stuff -

○ With OPM S2, J.C Staff produced 11 out of 12 episodes inhouse, which is actually an amazing feat for a studio that only had 6 months of active production (we don't exactly know how much pre-production they got though).

OPM S3 P2 has at least 6 months of production time like S2 (although because of Shinpei Nagai's speed as a storyboarder in addition to a lot of characters designs already being finished from P1's pre-production) but there are some problems to address. With OPM S2, they supposedly had to brick other shows they were working on, particularly High Score Girl, which originally was supposed to be animated in 2D but had to be 3D.

Right now, J.C Staff, particularly in the Fujishiro production line is doing other projects which have higher priority: 'Overgeared', 'The Seven Knight of the Maronnier Kingdom', and 'Kizuguchi no Houtai' (idk the EN name) -

For Overgeared, this has Egg Firm as part of the production committee, which is the same one that has been part of shows like SAO, Mushoku Tensei and DanMachi (which is another J.C Staff show which has great animation). Generally speaking, Egg Firm has a much better track record for actually giving studios the time to actually make good shows, while Bandai has left a track record of doom for sequels (OPM, Blue Lock, and now Marriage Toxin to name some examples). Additionally, the Chief Producer of J.C Staff, Yuji Matsukura, has stated before that he trusts the founder of Egg Firm, Nobuhiro Osawa, most out of anyone. In that prospect, there is a likelihood that Overgeared is a very high priority show as it is, so OPM might not get priority.

For The Seven Knights of the Maronnier Kingdom, this is also likely to be a bit of a distraction as well. The NHK (JP equivalent to UKs BBC) is part of the production committee and they are very strict about quality. This also means it is a higher priority project.

Kizuguchi no Houtai is a standard rom com which likely won't get too much attention I imagine (the character design on the key visual is offputting), however the director for this show is Miyuki Ishida, who was an assistant director for OPM S3 P1 and is unavailable to help out on OPM S3 P2. Plus, in any case animators will be stuck between this show and OPM, making it a bit of a distraction sadly.

I'm sure to a lot of people's understanding, Kenichiro Aoki, who is J.C Staff's best action animator, was pulled away from OPM S3 P1 to work on Mugen Gacha, which was a very sad happenstance because his output in S3 P1 wasn't as prolific as it was in S2. Obviously I hope he doesn't work himself too hard out of passion, but his animations are awesome. Now, the problem is, Aoki normally works on the Suzuki production line and OPM is the exception where he goes on to Fujishiro's line. Right now, the Suzuki line is doing A Certain Dark ITEM, and A Certain Scientific Railgun S4 is currently in production. Aoki is generally a pillar for the Suzuki line, having prolific work on Railgun T, DanMachi S3 - S5, Edens Zero, etc etc. There is a likelihood he might have to focus on those series, especially because J.C Staff actually has a financial stake in the Toaru series and cannot mess up with these new Toaru installments. He might not have much output on OPM S3 P2 either.

A specific webgen freelance animator made a disturbing tweet after the P2 trailer dropped, and it likely means that J.C Staff has to compromise, overcorrect, or completely remake cuts from certain animators. A lot of you might not know this, but webgens are known in the industry to make cuts which aren't very easy for other departments to be able to do 2KA, Inbetweens, colouring, compisiting etc. This is likely the reason Van Oba's cut in S3 Ep5 likely wasn't as good as it could have been (and his cut in the Opening shows J.C Staff can composite, so it indeed is a time problem). Another instance of this was in Overgeared, where freelance webgen animator sem1automatick had a cut in Episode 2, but was corrected so much that it was so different that it wasn't considered his cut in Sakugabooru. That was done likely due to maintain the artstyle and animation style of the show in Overgeared. Generally speaking, webgens do great animation but are very hard to clean up, especially for a studio like J.C Staff which maintains a very traditional style to their work. I don't exactly know if this will be that big a problem, but scenes from Yen BM, Julian Bentley, and Rio. Ryan White, Zucchinijuice etc etc had their cuts compromised in OPM S2 as well (nonetheless they made great scenes, props to them).

Uhh I can't think of anything else for dooming, but here is the cope:

○ While I did say animators will be distracted on other, more important IPs such as Overgeared, it is simultaneously a blessing in disguise. Overgeared supposedly will have lots of talented freelancers, and we have seen a few of them. Evakoi and sem1automatick for webgen freelancers, we've seen mecha animator Kanta Suzuki, we've seen an animator Ryoken Toida, who did an excellent job in 'Sentenced to be a Hero', who did a scene in the Opening. There's also Mitsuaki Hori, who did some cuts for Doran Vs Yura in episode 1. Additionally, it has been leaked that Vincent Chansard is doing his first ever Storyboarding work on Overgeared, and he has enough clout himself to pull great talent from the industry. Now, why would this matter? Generally speaking, when an animator is finished with their work on a specific anime, they may be asked to work on another anime. It is entirely possible we get amazing animators like Kanta Suzuki, Vincent Chansard, Mistuaki Hori etc etc if they are willing to.

Additionally, Ryou Andou did SB for Ep4 of Overgeared, and he did Storyboards for Ep3 and Ep11 of OPM S2. Those eps were Garou vs Tank Top Master and Garou vs A-Class heroes, both of which are heavily praised fights within the season and to me they were very impressive fights.

Plus, J.C Staff has worked on Patlabor EZY, which had certain animators I would love to see on OPM S3 P2:

  1. Yuji Takagi - he did a lot of great work for OPM S2, animating the 'Tank Top Tackle' sequence from S2 Ep3 (Aoki did the cut where Garou beats the crap out of Tank Top Master), and also did a sequence for Ep11, and he is a frequent partner of J.C Staff, having worked on many shows by the studio. Imo he would be perfect for Garou vs Darkshine or some of the other fights.

  2. Takashi Hashimoto - This guy has been working with J.C Staff since the 1990s I think, and in 2022 he signed a contract with J.C Staff to prioritise the studio's projects over others, since he has a great relationship with Yuji Matsukura, chief producer at J.C Staff. In fact, this contract is likely the reason why he worked on P1 Ep9.

  3. Kenichi Takase - he is also a prominent Mecha animator like Kanta Suzuki, and he is also a frequent collaborator on J.C Staff projects, one recently being Maou 2099. I don't think he'll be on OPM but one can cope.

  4. Kosuke Yoshida - He is also a frequent collaborator of J.C Staff, and has worked on shows like Sugar Apple Fairy Tale (where he had done some amazing work there), and most recently Magilumiere S2 which is in the same production line as OPM. He is a really underrated animator with such great draftsmanship and on model designs on all of his scenes despite high frame counts, and he would do really well with OPM if he can work with the designs. He also has great output, and I would absolutely love to see him on OPM no doubt.

I did say Aoki likely has to work on higher priority projects, but there is a possibility that he was allowed to work on OPM S3 P2. The reason being that the first three eps of A Certain Dark ITEM came out, and Aoki isn't in any of the credits so far, meaning he might not be working on it but I could be totally wrong in the near future. Additionally, Aoki has had some important roles in the Duel Masters LOST anime, however this show I believe has a great schedule and I h(c)ope that it isn't hindering especially since it is only 4 eps.

As for other people who might work on OPM S3 P2, there are a few candidates -

  1. Aoki's students. Specifically Shuto Fujita, Kaito Kuono and Kyouta Miyamoto have some great cuts on OPM S3 P1, and I would love to see their work again.

  2. Hiroshi Nishikori - He is a long time collaborator of J.C Staff, being the director of Azumanga Daioh and storyboarder for Utena, and in 2025, he directed Honey Lemon Soda, a shoujo romance, and with his connections he brought in Takeshi Honda, who recently was one the animation director of Ghibli film The Boy and the Heron. He has exceptional skill in character acting, and he did a lot of correction work on Neon Genesis Evangalion. He is a veteran and has extremely good draftsmanship and will be important in preserving the detailed character designs.

Additionally, Nishikori has a lot of connections to people from the prime Gainax era, has also worked with studio Bones in the 2000s and both him and Matsukura actually maintain a great relationship with Bones's founder (imagine we get Yutaka Nakamura, not that I think it's possible but yk yk).

Nishikori brought in Daisuke Tokudo for a few episodes of the second season of A Certain Magical Index. What makes this very vital is that Tokudo is a prominent storyboader and animator of Attack on Titan, and in Index II, he actually brought in Arifumi Imai for a scene, and also Toshiyuki Sato (I think). Both animators had very stand out work on OPM S1 (Sato did work on the fights with Genos vs the obnoxious guy made by the scientists, and also some work in Genos vs Deep Sea King). Imai did work on Saitama vs Genos, and also Genos vs Deep Sea King. This would be a very ideal situation.

However getting Nishikori involved may be too much cope because he is busy directing the Eleceed anime sadly.

  1. This is the farthest cry I have, but Shingo Natsume himself. He is working on a movie called 'ghost', animated by Madhouse and uhh... Bandai being one of the producers. Do note that Bandai is actually also responsible for why Natsume was on OPM S1, so they are simultaneously the reason it was so good and also so bad. The reason I mention Natsume is because he did express that he really wanted to work on OPM S2 in some sort of interview in 2019, but that he couldn't. Since his film is slated for Feb 2027, things should be much more relaxed, and so the biggest cope I have is that he returns for a guest spot in OPM S3 P2, such as Episode Director for the final episode. He could likely get animators that are on his movie, such as Norifumi Kugai and Gosei Oda, both of which did great work on OPM S1, and also Kouki Fujimoto (who did solo KA for an episode in JJK S3, and has actually worked with J.C Staff on A Certain Scientific Accelerator, before he got clout). Anyhow, another reason I think it is possible (at least more possible than most other studios for a reason I'll get on to, but still extremely unlikely) for Natsume to come back for OPM with J.C Staff is actually because he started his career from around 2002-2007 as an animator. If you go on Sakugabooru, you'll see he did work for Shakugan no Shana, The Familiar of Zero, and Nodame Cantobile while at J.C Staff, and Shinya Hasegawa (very prominent figure in the industry and J.C Staff employee) actually corrected a lot of animation by Natsume. Generally speaking, from what I know Natsume wanted to join Gainax but they had a very high standard, so he joined J.C Staff, and if you know anything about the history of J.C Staff and Gainax you'll know why that was a reasonable decision. Anyhow, this is cope max ultra.

And since Yuji Matsukura is involved in basically every project at J.C Staff, it would be good for everyone to know he has a lot of clout among veterans in the industry. He could absolutely pull some great freelance veterans who could do amazing work on OPM.

Note that this copium is..... too much.

Basically, I am more on the dooming side of things but I am very desperate for something good to come out of this 🤕🤕

Thanks for reading if you went down this far on my jobless post, appreciate you.

When Saitama punched cosmic garou in the face, garou lost all his powers he gained from God, but does that mean he lost all his powers for the monster form like the God slayer fist that he perfected or was that the monster armor power?, I know for a fact that he can beat suiryu even though they looked like equals in their recent sparring match.

So umm basically

In fan and official translations

Murmen Rider = Licenceless or Homeless Rider

Drive Knight = Engine Knight

Amai Mask = "Handsomely Sweet Mask"

Flashy Flash = Lightspeed Flash

Carnage Kabuto = Asura Rhino

Which is better?

Cuz for me, I think official ones are good

Who even calls Murmen Rider as "Licenceless Rider"?

So what do you think?

discussion Hate for that graph

Narratively Saitama should not be scalable, and he isn't. But the graph that Saitama vs garou fight made him look like calculable Shonen protagonist who needs external triggers to get stronger, what happened to the joke?

I certainly hate it. And somehow agree with webcomic wankers that murata shouldn't have changed the story even tho I know Saitama never intended to garou because tareo asked him.

It makes me frustrated that people forgot he is a parody of anpanman and just became a powerscaling tool to make fun of because Saitama doesn't have "feats" which he should never have, I enjoyed how Saitama was basically [Title card] and undefeatable at the same time, but suddenly everybody who powerscales makes fun of him as "galaxy" or "multi-galaxy" level, and yes I am from those people who think Saitama can defeat anyone and solos fiction because webcomic Saitama does with his gag.

Even tho I enjoyed the entire Saitama vs Cosmic garou fight weekly, I can't forgive murata for making a graph for measuring Saitama when Saitama removed his limiter.
