General Qs Budget Help Ideas

• Upvotes

Hello. Today was my first commissioner's meeting after a promotion. Our county is over budget and our LEC is in a retention and pay slump because we have larger cities so close by who pay more. I guess I'm looking for fundraiser ideas, or if anyone has had a similar experience and figured out a successful way to bring in more money. I know raising taxes is the obvious way, but I thought maybe reaching out to others with years behind the belt could be a good idea too.

Self Post How dumb are your admins?

At the prison where I worked the dumb chief of security would bend the rules for females. Like if the female officer fall asleep at the hospital they’re given warnings but for male officers they’re fired.

There was this female officer in her 40s that would chat and flirt with her inmate boyfriend on camera for months until the dumb admins took action.

They also placed this other girl in a unit known to compromised female staff, to test her, little do they know she wasn’t there for a boyfriend but to sell drugs to inmates.

This prison put in more effort catching the good officers making honest mistakes and firing them, but when it’s a dirty staff they drag it out and pretend like they’re investigating and gathering evidence just to let the dirty staff walk.

Hiring Q (Fed) BOP conditional Offer Question

Post image
7 Upvotes

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I received this email however it did not contain any links, am I supposed to log in somewhere and manually accept the conditional offer? I checked USAJOBS and tried calling the facility( nobody answered )
For further context I did my interview and submitted my NBIS last week.
The interviewer said next steps after submitting the NBIS would be fingerprinting and medical.

Hiring Q (Other) Ontario Correctional Officer.

I have my Ontario Correctional Officer interview this week, and I wanted to hear from people who have gone through the hiring process recently.
How hard is it to get hired as a correctional officer in Ontario? What kind of questions did they ask during the interview, and is there anything specific I should prepare for?
Also, they only gave me five locations to choose from, and all of them are in Northern Ontario. Is this normal? Does choosing a northern location improve your chances of getting hired?
Any advice or recent experiences would be very helpful.

Self Post CSC - CTP 3

Hi everyone! Is anyone currently waiting for a Primary Worker position at Grand Valley Institution in Kitchener, Ontario?
I’ve completed Stage 1 and am waiting for an invitation to the next stage of training. I was recently offered a position at another institution outside Ontario, but my preferred location is Grand Valley.
Has anyone recently received a Primary Worker offer or training invitation for Grand Valley? I’m wondering whether they’re actively hiring for that location or if candidates are still waiting.
Any updates or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hiring Q (Canada) CSC CX-01 Hiring in Kingston – Job Offers, Medical Validity

Hello everyone,

I’m looking for some advice from anyone who has gone through the Correctional Service Canada (CSC) hiring process, especially in the Kingston area.

I received a email about a job offer in January 2026. Im still serving in the CAF with 21 years of service and advised CSC that I wanted to remain in the pool because I couldn’t accept a position at Joyceville.

I redid my CPT 1 training in May 2026. When I contacted the recruiter in August, I was told I was back in the pool.

My medical and psychological assessments are valid until July 2027. I’m now willing to accept a position at any correctional institution near Kingston, including Joyceville, Collins Bay, Millhaven or Bath.

I’m wondering:

- What are my chances of receiving a CX-01 job offer before July 2027?

- Are CSC hiring from the pool for institutions in the Kingston area?

- Has anyone been in a similar situation, received a text about an offer, remained in the pool, and later received another offer?

- If my medical or psychological assessments expire before I receive an offer, would I need to redo them?

Any advice or recent experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

General Qs NYC DOC Fingerprint Appointment

I’m currently going through the hiring process for NYC Dept of Corrections. I have an appointment to get fingerprints taken tomorrow and was wondering if anyone has any idea how long this part usually takes. I’m not sure whether or not to take the day off from my current job or just let them know I’ll be in a little later.

General Qs Research Study (HiREB Ethics Approved): Seeking Racial and Ethnic Minority Public Safety Personnel in Canada

Hi all!

Just wanted to share a research study our lab is conducting if it is of interest to anyone!

Researchers from the McMaster University Trauma and Recovery Research Unit are conducting a study to understand the experiences of racial and/or ethnic minority medical students, healthcare workers, and public safety personnel in Canada. Our goal is to explore how their racial and/or ethnic identity shapes their professional identity, influences mental health, functioning, moral injury and resilience.

This study has been reviewed by the Hamilton Integrated Research Ethics Board under Project #18569.

If you would like to participate in this research study, please follow the following link: https://redcap.link/minorityhealthscreener

or scan the QR code on the recruitment flyer. If you have any questions or would like further information regarding this study, feel free to email us at [msmhteam@mcmaster.ca](mailto:msmhteam@mcmaster.ca).

General Qs For people serving time, how do you recommend finding solid protection services from an officer?

My buddy in Nevada had an arrangement like this, making it an officers worthwhile to provide personalized protection services. You guys have tips on finding solid officers on the inside to do business with? You hear stories about officers who do shady business like solicit services but don't come through on the terms. What do you folks think about officers who rip off inmates, does that get a bad wrap amongst you guys or is that ok?

Does this camp typically have openings, or are they typically fully staffed? I'm thinking about going moving to Minnesota next year and working there.

Hiring Q (Fed) FPC Bryan Correctional Officer.

I'm scheduled next week to do a virtual interview for a correctional officer position at FPC Bryan. Despite me being very interested in the job, I feel conflicted if I pass the interview and it's offered to me, since despite being a minimum prison camp I have no good idea of what most days of daily work would involve. I know there would be contraband, but don't know the steps to deal with that. I also have no knowledge of the amount of and types of fights that go on inside there, and how regular those are.

If accepting the officer job, I would be relocating from San Diego. I currently have a job with USPS as a mail clerk. I like the job itself, and my managers and coworkers are all very nice and they often tell me that I do a very good job. However, the pay is very poor for San Diego at $23 an hour, and I have a bachelor's degree. The correctional officer job would be a lot more money, -- I believe with guaranteed overtime? -- and with a better pension than USPS. But there's also the risk of me having to give up the USPS job and the move to Texas from San Diego and everything involved with all of that.

I also have no idea how difficult the training is for the correctional officer position, even though I've read a lot about it and have watched videos and people discussing it, and know what it involves. So I could make the mistake of giving up my USPS job and then going through training only to fail at training because I fail the Incident Observation and Report Writing or Human Relations portion of it.

I'm a guy in my early thirties, who looks about ten years younger than his actual age and has an innocent and kind face, and a very soft-spoken and unassertive voice.

Even right now I feel anxiety about potentially having to decide between these two jobs, if the time comes where I have to make that decision.

Self Post Cellphone finding device

So i am currently in an open prison in germany.

Basically everyone is doing what they want here and everyone is on the phone at all times ( out of line of sight to COs obviously)

The COs here claim to have a device that is able to track phones that are turned off.

I believe this is a bluff and would like to know what the current best tech is to find a hidden phone in a room.

The only people that are getting caught are those that made it public that they have a phone or dumbasses that dont take reasonable precautions

Supposedly this magic device even shows the make and model of the phone that is nearby.

Self Post I lost my shit at work

In front of an inmate.

Not at them, but on the phone venting to my husband.

I was born with a pretty deep spoon chest. (My sternum presses up against my heart and lungs and they don’t work as well as they should). My biggest symptom honestly is insomnia. I could go for days at a time without any sleep. I finally got a second CT scan done and was referred to a specialist. The so called specialist keeps giving me the run around. Bro, I’m tired. I was referred to you. I’ve called you multiple times and you still haven’t either gotten back to me or you said that you “promised” that you would get back to me.

I got a chance to go out to my car and check my phone and found once again, they never answered my messages. At that time, I had maybe 8-9 hours of sleep over the course of 3 days.

I lost my shit. I called my husband and was trying so hard not to scream over the phone. It was like scream whispering. I needed to vent, but didn’t want to let others hear me.

Except an inmate overheard me.

She came up to tell me something important. I apologized for losing it like that and she kept assuring me that I am human and that it’s okay.

Never once in the almost 7 years that I’ve been working here have I lost it like that in front of an inmate. She was very sweet, but I’m mortified.

I just needed to vent. I got one more day there until vacation. Help. Me.

Self Post offered interview

I was offered an interview for BOP, and the scariest part is being upfront on my pre-employment packet.

I finished a drug related felony case where I was not convicted (first offender probation) and putting that on the paperwork makes me feel weird. but being candid is the best option.

cant win if you dont play. i guess also i cant be in love with the idea/job until all hurdles are done.

General Qs Husband Starting as CO

My husband just got hired as a correctional officer at a maximum security facility. It’s a great job and I’m proud of him. It’s the intake facility where all inmates filter through when they’re initially sentenced. Meaning my husband will interact with the worst and the most mild inmates.

My question is what this will mean for our family in terms of his work-life balance. We have a 9mo baby and my 4yo stepdaughter.

His parents are COs too and they tell me to enjoy him while he’s here, because he won’t be much longer. I know it’s a crazy schedule.. I’m anticipating he’ll start with graveyard shifts and work all night and sleep all day. Realistically, what should I expect?

He’s already gone about 10-12 hours a day for work at his current job. No graveyards though. He’s often working 50 hour weeks. Plus, after being active duty, he’s been Marine Corps Reserves for the last several years and he’s left for several weeks at a time for international drills. I’d like to think I’m already seasoned in lone parenting. But I’m still pretty nervous.

Hiring Q (County) Florida corrections

Anybody in here work corrections in Florida, specifically county? I’m a corrections deputy in Washington, and Florida has been heavy on the mind with the way Washington is going. I assume the pay is vastly different, im set to clear 150k this year and I’m not even at top scale yet. Pension any good? Medical, dental?

Anybody in here lateral to Florida and love it? Anybody lateral to Florida and hate it?

Thanks!
