last thursday was my last day at office hell (what me and my friends/coworkers call it) just wanted to make the famous promoted to customer post since i see so many and man can i say this day couldn’t have come sooner. this is gonna be a post of me complaining and ranting so thanks for coming to my ted talk.
i have been with the company for about 2.5 years and have really only stayed that long because of my coworkers everything else sucks. i started out as just a cashier and got promoted to a key carrier after about 5-6 months. i had expressed my unwillingness to be a print associate or want to do anything over there because i know how hellish it is and they were fine with this. well we got a new GM and he decided i didn’t get a choice and i had to “learn the basics” so i can help out in a bind or cover lunches. fine i learned and then 80% of my shifts were print associate it seemed like. my manager knew i hated it and tried to find replacements but the turn over rate at my store is actually so awful because the print center is so so awful. only certain employees follow policy and everyone else bends the rules and babies every customer and will drop everything they’re doing for customers in print. i’ve never met so many stupid entitled people in my life than i have in the print center. i didn’t hate life when working on queue orders but walk ups really killed the mood everytime.
i especially got sick of how pushy they are about rewards paper deals and “select”. so many stupid things in this company and i am so relieved to be leaving finally. loved my coworkers but the customers are absolutely the worst people in the world 90% of the time.
don’t even get me started on TSA. how is it possible to have back to back tsa appointments and one person in print until 11 or noon? and then they want someone on the floor as well, not possible. this company is a mess and understaffed in every way shape and form and they expect 3 people to do the amount of work that 5 people should be doing it’s absolutely ridiculous.
i’ve been at my new job for less than a week and already love it so much more and im not depressed everytime i have to clock in and it’s not just because it’s new and exciting it’s because the company knows how to actually run itself and properly staff itself and values its employees. i get an hour lunch and 2 15 min breaks every shift. i would be LUCKY if i even got a 15 min break at office depot
another thing is im actually getting benefits for being full time which office depot couldn’t do because apparently only so many people can have benefits at the same time? i found that to be so weird and messed up.
i’m glad i left when i did because they just implemented the shipping updates at my store my last week. how is a print associate supposed to do their job handle walk ups and do all the shipping? good riddance office hell !
