Discussion Sophia’s book - Chapter about Chad

I got to the part about Chad. Here are the highlights:

  1. Chad cheated on her before the engagement with Paris and said it was his co-star (Jared). Sophia believed him
  2. There were more rumors about his infidelity but she was defending him
  3. They went to therapy and she was put on meds (also because her mom got sick)
  4. He was controlling and was marking his territory when she was filming the movie. She stopped taking meds and the distance made her realize it was bad
  5. She called her friend who didn’t show up at the wedding. He told her about the girls he cheated her with. The number was shocking. She realized there were women she had to still work with and was wondering if she should pretend that she didn’t know. She went back to work and changed the locks.
  6. She found out their boss was cheating on his wife at the same parties as Chad. Her co-worker was ashamed that he didn’t say anything sooner but he was scared.
  7. She was professional and did not let herself lose it on set until hurricane episode where they were arguing. She was supposed to say „I’m not your recycling bin” and shouted „I’m not your punching bag”. She realized that when they had to dub the audio.

Season 1 Dan

This is probably like my fourth or fifth time watching the series. I can’t believe how much I hate Dan in the earlier seasons. He is such an asshole to literally everyone and I hate how much everyone lets him walk all over them. He truly is an awful character, so well written imo cause they truly made him awful and impossible to like.

Season 2 So, I just started watching this show with my girlfriend (no spoilers, please!)

It's her favorite show. And I'm such a lucky girl—she has watched my favorite monster movies with me, Avatar (even though she's never watched anime or the like), she's learning about Final Fantasy 7, even playing the original before playing the Remake, and so on. She goes out of her way to learn the things I love, so the least I could do was watch this show.

We're into season 2, now. This was the episode where Haley's sister appeared. (Funny thing about that...) I have done her the service of getting into the show. Like, truly into it. She loves how animated I get, yelling at the screen and ranting or raving about the various characters. Because even though it wouldn't normally be my thing, I am doing this in earnest.

The 180s are funny. I used to scream at Haley for falling for Nathan's bullshit, and now Nathan is my favorite character. HE IS THE BEST BOY. HE IS AN ANGEL. Honestly, Haley doesn't deserve him! Why are they acting like she and Chris had this great chemistry and all that? Didn't they only interact like a few times? I guess the implication is that they spent more time than was shown together recording. Even with what Alicia has told me went on behind the scenes, they still have as much chemistry as Felix or Anna do with anyone. Which is to say none.

She hasn't spoiled much. I remember a long time ago she told me one of these couples was her favorite TV couple, but I don't remember which one. I don't want to remember, because I want to learn this show with her as we go. So I'll find out who's endgame and who isn't when we get there.

Alicia does tell me some BTS stuff, like about Peyton getting hate in the fandom. Which, uh, I don't understand? The stand she took at school against the people who painted "dyke" on her locker was amazing. Spoke to me a lot, as obviously I am gay AF with my amazing, sweet girlfriend whom I would defend to the death. I guess it was to do with the love triangle bit, but that was hardly so black and white, and it's not like she hasn't made up for it.

Anyway! I figure I'll have to steer clear of this sub except to post some progress reports as I go. I am enjoying watching it with her. Dan's a bastard. Someone push him in the river! Right now, Haley should go with him. SHE DOES NOT DESERVE THAT ANGEL. Honestly, so many of these characters are just terrible people right now. This season is a lot less enjoyable than the first. The arcs there were better, I think. Here's hoping it improves again in this and future seasons.

Still, I am enjoying it, and I hope to continue to do so. The show means a lot to her, and she was so excited, like giddy, when Nathan actually kissed Haley in the first season and had actually become his real ANGELIC self. I still crack up over her reaction. "Have faith in our boy," she tells me, when it looked like there was trouble, and then Nathan just keeps trying to do better. He proved his quality, sir: the very highest. So I'm going to have faith!

Please feel free to share your thoughts and experiences with learning the show. Just please no spoilers past where I'm at.

Oh, this episode...I am sooo fuming mad at Haley for messing up when she had no reason to (it's not like she didn't have an actual good guy at home). So when Taylor shows up, my pouty self maaaay have made a joke about "Hmph! I hope he @#$%s her sister!" Turns out...

Let's just say, Alicia and I shared a good laugh. 😂

Season 6 Peyton season 6

I know that the pregnancies throughout the show make no sense and have been talked about but something I haven’t seen mentioned about Peyton’s really bugs me. When she goes to the doctor the first time after having abdominal pain they make it seem like she may have cancer or some other health issue. The doctor asks about family history and says he wants to run some tests.

In reality if you are a woman and go to the doctor complaining of anything related to your abdomen one of the first things they do is a pregnancy test. She would have known right away she was pregnant. Now the doctor may have wanted to do other tests afterward but it wouldn’t have been this long drawn out thing.

Did this bug anyone else, or just me?

Season 3 Cheer routines

Knee deep in a rewatch and I can’t help but cackle at the cheer routines. Like they certainly couldn’t have honestly thought those looked win worthy?? Like even brooke winning the choreography award the first classic? That routine was absolute cheeks

Discussion What happened to the theme song?

I'm on season 6 and I feel like it's been a couple of seasons without the theme song. Like ik they had that cold open with Jamie singing but why does it no longer show up every episode. Is there a specific reason for this? Or have I just blacked it out somehow?

Season 4 Voicemails for Isabelle

We watched this film last night from Netflix. My wife kept commenting on how romantic it was, while all I could think of was "bro looks, sounds, and acts like Psycho Derek from OTH."

Anyone else think the same? Lol 😆

Leí que acababa agotada y era estrés pero creo que la actriz que hacia de Peyton llegaba a estar extremadamente delgada, a mí me gusta pero de forma sana y saludable y eso era roce de límites o traspaso... Se sabe algo?

Season 1 Should I continue watching?

So, I recently found the show on Netflix. Watched 2 episodes and started reading about it (something I always do). I read about what will happen to some of the characters and the general story line, and felt like the show is all over the place. I am not sure if I even want to continue watching it. Am I missing out?

Season 9 Haley doppelgänger

I just finished oth. There’s a still shot at the end of the cast and I’m convinced that they replaced Haley with some random woman. It just does not look like her 😂

Cast News Bethany Joy Lenz’s new book

Has anyone gotten her book that recently came out? I’m on the fence about getting it due to an excerpt I read on an article. I might end up getting the audiobook - I did for Dinner with Vampires and I loved hearing her read it. I’m not sure if I would’ve gotten through it if I had.

Discussion Sophia on Call Her Daddy

Sophia Bush is the latest guest on the podcast CHD (to promote her book) and while the episode isn’t out yet, the clips I’ve seen so far are pretty interesting. She talks about CMM - which she also does in the book apparently - alongside Mark and his awful behaviour… but it also seems to be another opportunity for Sophia to defend her relationship and deny an affair. I will probably be watching/listening when it airs but I’m intrigued to hear anyone’s initial thoughts based on what has been released so far?

Season 5 Lucas and Nathan s5

I usually stop rewatching the show after Season 4, and I used to have pretty good memories of Season 5. But honestly, this time around, I don't know if I have anything good to say about it. It's the lowest point for both Scott brothers, in my opinion. Nathan and Lucas just keep making one bad decision after another throughout the entire season, especially Lucas, who refuses to acknowledge his own feelings. And Nathan feels a little out of character to me, too. In any other season, Carrie would've been fired the moment she started flirting with him.

Music Which music moments gave you literal goosebumps that you went running to search for the song?

Center of attention - Jackson Waters (4x08, Peyton telling Lucas she’s in love with him)

Life after love - Low vs Diamond (3x12, Dan watches Karen and Lucas with Keith from afar)

Overcome - Better than Ezra (2x21, Lucas moves out of Dan’s, sad moment with Brooke)

Sway - The perishers (2x04, Lucas smiling at Guns n Roses CD after spending time with Dan!! ❤️)

Mixtape - Jack’s mannequin (3x15, Jimmy’s beautiful smile one last time, this gave me shivers)

Wait for love - Matt White (4x11, Principal Turner waving at the clean teens knowing they’re full of crap lmao, Dan looks at the “murderer” newspaper clippings)

Hallelujah - Kate Voegele (never thought I’d hear a version I love as much as Jeff Buckley. This is magical). I can’t remember the episode but I loved her rendition.

Another Hallelujah but by Gin Wigmore (Season 6 finale, Dan holds Sawyer. I wept)

Lock-sport-krock - Nikola Sarcevic (my personal favourite, Ellie and Peyton scene. Gut wrenching. 3x13)

Many more including Coldplay and Snow Patrol (two of my favourites)… share yours please ❤️

Discussion Unpopular opinion!

I hate how this community we pin each other against our favorite characters especially Brooke/ Nathan. I love the CORE 5 even when they had annoying moments I still loved them. What I love about this show is every character is flawed. They've all made mistakes, learnt from them and now a better adults.

Mistakes like: Lucas cheating on his gf with her bestie ( foul behavior)

Nathan being a bully and treating Peyton ( s1) and Haley (s5) like crap

Haleyleaving to tour with the guy she cheated with

Peyton betraying Brooke

Brooke making dead mom jokes

Yet there are great qualities that some people tend to ignore:

Lucas being an AMAZING friend and uncle

Nathan breaking a generational cycle and being a man Haley can be proud of

Haley being a loving supporter wife, mother, friend etc.

Peyton standing for closeted lesbians by wearing the shirt

Brooke not seeking validation from guys anymore

4 Years Later Clay and Quinn just never filled the void left by Leyton

I don't think Clay and Quinn are fan favourites, but honestly, I found them pretty tolerable in S7. I actually liked how they handled Clay losing his wife. It showed that moving on doesn't mean you're replacing your dead partner or that what you had with them suddenly means any less. I thought that was a good storyline.

But if we're talking about them in the context of Lucas and Peyton leaving, I just don't think they filled that gap.

And with Quinn, I genuinely don't know if it's the writing or the acting, but something about her character just never worked for me. I've seen people say that Clay and Quinn should be judged as their own characters and not constantly compared to Leyton, but like... they were literally introduced after Lucas and Peyton left 😭. It's hard not to make the comparison when they feel like they're there to fill the space left by an established couple.

Quinn especially just lacks the substance Peyton had. The show also seems weirdly obsessed with sexualising her. The dancing around in her bra, the singing, all of it sometimes feels so unnecessary. I don't feel like she was ever developed enough to make up for what Peyton brought to the show.

And her relationship with David? She just leaves him and seems to move on to Clay so quickly. We barely get time to process the end of that relationship before the show moves on to the next one. It makes the whole thing feel rushed, and I never really got the chance to care that much about either relationship.

Clay wasn't even that bad at first, but his storylines just got more and more ridiculous. The shooting, the doppelgänger stuff, and THEN FORGETTING HE HAS A SON??? 😭😭 Like, I know this is the same show where a dog ate Dan's heart, but come on. Even for OTH, that was insane.

What's funny is that I'm not even a hardcore Leyton fan. I liked them, but I preferred Brucas to an extent. Still, I enjoyed Lucas and Peyton's scenes, and I do believe Lucas loved Peyton more than he loved Brooke. I think they deserved their ending together.

But more than the ship itself, Lucas and Peyton were both such integral parts of the show. You can't just remove two characters who've been there since the beginning and expect introducing a new couple to make everything feel the same. That's part of why S7 feels so strange to me.

I also feel like the writers were trying to recreate a lot of the old dynamics. Clay and Nathan becoming basically brothers feels like an attempt to fill the gap left by Lucas and Nathan. Quinn becoming another girl for Brooke and Haley to bond with feels similar. And while there's nothing wrong with those relationships individually, sometimes it feels like the show is trying to recreate what it had instead of letting the new dynamics exist naturally.

Honestly, S7–9 sometimes feel like a Naley spin-off with Brooke still being a major character. And that's not necessarily a bad thing on its own, but it just doesn't feel like the same show anymore.

And don't even get me started on Lucas and Peyton missing so many important moments. Peyton not being at Brooke's wedding, Lucas not being there either... these people had known each other for YEARS. Their absence from these milestones just feels so disappointing. I know the actors left, but in-universe, it's still weird to watch characters who were once so central become almost irrelevant to everyone else's lives.

I guess my main issue isn't even that the show continued without Leyton. It's that it sometimes feels like the writers wanted us to accept that nothing had really changed when, in reality, the entire dynamic of the show had changed.

Clay and Quinn could've been decent characters on their own, but I don't think they ever came close to filling the space Lucas and Peyton left behind. And honestly, I think that's why the later seasons feel so much like a spin-off to me.

Season 4 Brooke & Lucas - Birthday Episode

This is my first time watching One Tree Hill but I’m so frustrated about the Brooke & Lucas situation.

Honestly, the writing makes absolutely no sense, especially when it comes to Brooke and Lucas. They were doing great. They were fine. And then, out of nowhere, the writers decided to break them up just to make Peyton and Lucas happen.

And let’s talk about Brooke’s birthday. Instead of picking up the phone to wish his own girlfriend a happy birthday, he leaves her alone and follows Peyton’s advice to some random store. That she oh so magically appeared at later, what a surprise.

He says he’s gonna get her back but he spends her birthday with the very person who contributed to the downfall of his relationship in the first place? Make it make sense. Not a present not a wish not a cake.

Honestly, the whole thing is weird. And I genuinely wonder why this show became so popular back then because, sometimes, absolutely nothing makes sense.

Characters randomly disappear, new characters show up out of nowhere, storylines come and go, and everyone just acts like we’re supposed to accept it. 😭

Season 6 So unnecessary

I might be in the minority here but as I’m watching OTH for the first time, I’ve just finished watching Season 6, episode 11 - We three (my echo, my shadow and me) and I just have to put it out there that this episode was just so unnecessary.

Why create a whole episode full of recount of the story thus far? It was extremely boring and it almost put me off continuing with the rest of the show.

I had to forward so many parts thinking that there will be something interesting coming soon, I just need to focus. But boy was I wrong! Nothing interesting came and I learned nothing new about the characters.

Basically the only thing we as an audience needed to know was the very last two minutes of that episode.

Season 1 Rewatching. Season 1 thoughts

Just my thoughts as I’m nearing the end of s1 and have no one else to talk to about it lol this is also like, not super serious and I know they are teenage characters and won’t always act rationally. This is merely for fun and lighthearted discussion

- Lucas being upset Karen didn’t tell him about Dan wanting custody. Like I know as a viewer and as someone who has seen the show many times, that Dan at his worst is yet to come but how does Lucas think having Dan in his life as a kid would’ve been better at all??? Also Keith being mad like grow up lol

- Peyton saying Lucas lied to her bc he hooked up with Nicki, like did he?? They (Lucas and Peyton) weren’t officially together. I get why she’s upset but I don’t see how he lied.

- Hayley being upset about porn is quite funny to me lol she’s such a sweet naive girl at this point in the show.

- In one of the first episodes, they have a water pipe break or something and Lucas gets pissed about Dan having not paid child support and says like “and bc of him, we have to live like this!” And it’s like you guys have a nice house in a good neighborhood like what do you mean live like this??! The writers really had no concept of poor lol

- I’m no expert but Jake running away with Jenny seems insanely irresponsible. I feel like Jake would’ve had a good chance of getting custody had it gone to court. Isn’t that like just actually the case? That when fathers actually fight for custody, they win in most cases?

- do people think Nicky sincerely wanted to be in Jenny’s life? Like Jake thinks she’s just being manipulative and stuff, which… maybe! But she could’ve been being for real and is it fair for Jake to stop her from seeing Jenny completely? I know she fucked up ofc but it’s still her child.

- Keith proposing to Karen is insane lol. Dude you guys haven’t even been on a date. Like of course she said no. She may have said yes to a date though??? Never felt bad for him for that.
