Hey everyone! I’m planning to switch to Marine Sciences next semester and would love to hear from students who are in the program or have taken its classes.
I’m interested in marine biology and considering transferring to a CSU or UC for a bachelor’s. How has your experience been so far? What have you enjoyed, and has anything been disappointing or different from what you expected?
A few other things I’m curious about:
How are the professors, classes, and overall workload?
How much hands-on experience do you get through labs, fieldwork, or boat trips?
Is it feasible to complete marine biology transfer prerequisites while also taking OCC’s Marine Sciences courses for hands-on experience? If you’ve done both, how manageable was it?
Is the schedule manageable while working part-time?
Have you found opportunities for internships, research, or paid work related to the field?
Do you have any advice for someone starting out, including classes to prioritize or things you wish you’d known? Would you choose the program again?

I am wondering if anyone has seen the sscg in their award letter? I have talked to many financial aid counselors and I keep getting different answers, so I wanted to see if anyone has seen or heard anything. I had a late start class that just started but was told that would still count towards my unit eligibility, as I meet all the other requirements.

Has anyone taken film 150 or 100 in the winter? Or AMT 155, 174, and 180. Unfortunately, my gpa isn’t that great and I want to bring it up a little in the winter. I plan on taking political science and maybe another class, so can anyone give me some advice on which class is better?

My grades have been deducted for absences despite having a valid reason (family hospital visits, sickness due to stress, etc.) and I know it's against the law to have absences affect your grade... but my professor does it anyway. I'm not one that usually skips and I don't wanna sound like a total stuck up to the dean, but my grades really matter to me and I don't know who to turn to about this issue. What can I do in this situation?

Hi everyone! I’m planning to take PHYS A280 with Professor Jerome Fang next spring, but I’ve heard mixed reviews about him.
I’ve seen some positive reviews from students who took him back in 2023, but I’m wondering if his teaching style or grading has changed recently.
For those who took him in 2024–2026:
Are his exams similar to the homework and practice problems?
Does he allow cheat sheets or offer extra credit?
Is his grading fair?
How difficult is it to get an A if you put in the effort?
I’m a Biology major planning to transfer, so maintaining my GPA is really important to me. I’m honestly a little nervous about taking his class.

I’m currently a Biology major at a California community college, planning to transfer to a UC in Fall 2027. My top choice is UCI, but I’m also applying to UCLA.
I’m currently taking calculus-based Physics I (PHYS 185), and I’m debating whether I should take Physics II (PHYS 280) next semester or wait until I transfer.
My biggest concern is maintaining a competitive GPA. I’ve heard that the Physics II professor Jerome Fang are pretty hard to get good grades, and I’m worried that taking the class could hurt my GPA.
I’m also considering taking Physics II at another community college, but that would require rearranging my Biology courses.
For those who transferred to a UC as a Biology major:
Did you complete the entire physics sequence before transferring?
Is it better to finish Physics II at a community college or take the remaining physics courses at a UC?
Would postponing Physics II affect my transfer admission or graduation timeline?

As the title says, I'm asking if anyone took Cypress College's A&P class and transferred it for credit to OCC? I'm awaiting for an appointment with a counselor at the moment and I've already received a class registration date for both OCC and CC, but I want to see if anyone had attempted it before to see if my idea of transferring classes was done before.

It's because OCC's Spring 2027 A&P schedule doesn't work with my day job's schedule. Was hoping there was going to be more evening classes for Spring.
