Imagine how this place once worked as a thriving little ecosystem: the vegetation supported entire communities of insects, and both the plants and insects provided food for birds. Now, with all the vegetation wiped out in one fell swoop, the insects have lost their habitat and food source, and the birds have been driven away as well…

Removal of the invasive plants was a good idea but just lawn is boring, I would have gone for some native woodland plants instead.

It’s refreshing to come to comments and see all my own thoughts reflected. Wild habitat is so much more appealing and also supports stressed ecosystems. More interesting to sit among/near on the deck, as well.

My gosh, that is awful and sad!
That sloped area isn’t even good for playing on, so it seems hardly worth it.
Shame your children have lost that lovely, magical natural area where their imaginations could develop.

Yeah I was about to say, I wonder if they have issues with their patio flooding now…

That would have made for a wonderful pollinator garden and wouldn't have cleared so much. Remove invasives only.

Coulda at least went with moss

Given how little sun there is here... likely the moss will move in and replace grass on it's own over time... unless OP bathes it in chemicals.

Terrible. They could have added a pond up there and little trails, flagstone steps, a few bird houses, native flowers, maybe a free standing swing, etc. Now it has no purpose, no benefit to the ecosystem, no creativity and is a water waste. 👎

Hmm. Um. Sooo you cut down the trees and pulled out the ground cover and replaced it with...lawn.

That's too bad. There was so much potential... But to just replace it mostly with lawn is sad.

This stream of photos could be viewed either way. From wild to lawn or lawn to wild. Some posts have the photos not in order. But maybe if I know what that blue stuff dusted on everything is, I’ll know what direction to scroll through the pictures in.
