Winter is for planning.

It's winter time so I'll be planning the things I will plant in spring. I will not try and start up a winter garden before I was ready. So what ever season your in. Just plan for the next and save your self a head ache. Only grow what you need or your property needs. No need to try and do to much. Farmers don't make money most of them can't even grow the food for themselves due to contracts. But your not them. Your you. So just try something. Is there a spice you like grow it. You don't have to pay for it and you will always have it on hand. Don't start with hydroponics or anything crazy give your self time to adjust to the green thumb. 👽 Did you know they had fruit trees you can grow indoors. A Brandywine tomato will make you never want to buy another. You can grow everything you need to make something else. There's a woman who is growing her own dress right now. Seriously the whole thing. Do you have enough hoses? The og sprinkler is the best for coverage until the corn gets to tall. Your going to want to elevate the sprinkler. They have tripod ones. Also motion activated deer sprinkler, but will tilled a row of dirt and let the poke weed grow that kept the deer off mostly they love it. Plan to start hunting again next year. Cross bow due to disabilities. CWD we need to get that in check sad what it's doing to deer. I might look into a water source that I can filter and decontaminate. Might grow vegetables something that holds abundance of water so they can get their water from a different source until the water clears up. When planting a garden don't hurt your back so plan for that. Get some shorts and flip flops for summer. Everything is on sale right now anyway. Ask why. Why anything. I wonder how much food I can grow in a 27gal tote with a sip system. Nope stop that's indoor stuff. I'm thinking outdoor stuff. What are you planning?

Best free soil for your garden

You like free? Depending where you live it might be different. I got tired of buying soil and still do from time to time. But it takes time and I am building my own soil over the winter. You can to. Look into bioactive soil. A lot of people use a culture for their self sufficient and sustaining ecosystems. You can do it to because you live on earth. Congratulations. Next look into a 27gal sip totes used on a lot of homesteads for container gardening and hydroponics. These 27gal totes are cheap because they are so popular. It's going to take time. But early in the morning go look under some rocks and what ever else might have dead grass and dirt. You will find your local clean up crew. Rollie pollies, sow bugs, springtails and maybe some red wigglers. Put them in the tote. You don't need worms. But if you put worms in they might need table scraps and then that's up to you. Fruit flys and such. I have wolf spiders in my indoor garden and they take care of them. Anyways you bring the outside to the inside. This is now your bio active culture. Feed it out clippings or runts. Water only. And you can make these as big as you want. But from what I found out you need at 3gals of soil so you can harvest your soil to. But as your looking into all that you will understand what I'm talking about. Learn about roots dude it will blow your mind. Plants don't need us we need them. People always think they don't have a green thumb but dude. Do less. Everyone used to know this stuff and I'm probably just on a trip. But dude I miss when everyone used to grow their own food and didn't need anything else. Bottom watering as well plants love it. Most the pots at stores have bottom watering now. That's not for looks it has a purpose. The upper roots called lateral roots breath air. And vertical tap roots will find the water and drink when they want. And you don't water board them every other day. Better then drip systems. When you plant a seed they breath through the humidity in the air not suck up water. A lot of bio active cultures that are bred might not work out doors in your area so that's why I suggested just making your own. Once you bring it in side after a few months you will be rolling in the best dirt

I weeded my reddit.

So I grow stuff, all sorts of stuff. I grew up with the Internet being available but still remember the old Internet. Used to have 4chan and Myspace old reddit. Myspace is gone, Facebook is gone 4chan is gone and reddit is gone. Every sub is just an echo chamber of BS. People don't understand that everyone doesn't have the same knowledge as them, so when new person asks for help they get regurgitated information or met with satire posts of people asking for help for dumb shit they don't need help with flooding the information pool. That's fine people are people. I made this sub r/nogatekeepgardens. A 1 stop shop for real gardeners to share their experiences and learn from others wins and losses. Plants are easy to grow people make their lives more difficult do to misinformation. They don't know the words to look for when learning to garden. People have been taught how to fish and some people fish some sell bait. All the OG gardeners have left reddit and moved to specialty forums. Reddit has been compromised for information. People have turned hobbies into profits and now people have forgotten how simple growing a single plant can be. I made quite a few posts asking for information with no avail. People rather keep their secrets. So I can officially say reddit is just useless to people actually trying to learn stuff. Same with YouTube shits just trash. I came here to try and help people move on and cross over to better websites but there is a lot of them and so much information. It is easier to just keep my mouth shut and keep it to my self. I'm in a garden all day not on the Internet. A plant needs soil air light water and time. Learn about soil. Learn about light. Learned about air. Learn about water. Time is man made. It's not real l. But plants need a set amount of light called daily light intervals. This is mainly for artificial light sources. On the back of seed packs there is good information learn as you go. If a pack of seeds has 30 seeds plant all 30 so you don't stress. Expect 1 to survive. Any questions feel free to ask. But you must learn to survive before you become self sufficient. And that's means weeding out the bullshit. Happy growing. 👽🌬️

My number 1 advice for new growers

Don't just plant one seed. I have never planted 1 stock of corn. When you plant multiple seeds at once your able to see the changes across the board. If all the plants react it's the soil if just one plant reacts it's just that plant and it's probably fine. But when I started growing my medicine that then turned into me starting a garden and trying to grow as much of my food as possible.( Work in progress) I learned where I started was a crash course in gardening and the main thing I do now is never only start 1 seed. It will drive you mad.

Iv had plants here and did water only till day 80+. People get so wrapped up about yield and product. They forgot why it works. The plants do what they need to. No need to stress. The plants are just fine

My story

While this community builds over time I wanted to keep a log for myself. A type of time stamp. I am currently 36 years old. Disabled veteran. I was a mechanic.worked with my hands a lot. Cars, planes, bikes, etc. after being out of the military for 8 years I finally got the help I needed to move forward and fully retire. No work plus no hobbies I found myself searching for something to do and occupy my time. We live in a world where information and knowledge is at our finger tips and yet we can't find what we are looking for half the time. I have seen enough of the world to know we all live in different bubbles. We all have different experiences, ideas, accomplishments and failures. Yet without any of it, we wouldn't be the person we are. So I started growing weed. Fell in love instantly. Next thing you know I am planning a full homestead garden and actively working towards becoming mostly self sufficient food wise. I enjoy growing everything. I enjoy experimenting and trying new things. Problem I had when searching for advice, was being told the wrong information constantly, or being told to worry about things I shouldn't have worried about. People gatekeep information so they can gain profits, I understand. So I decided I'd make my own sub reddit so I don't have to search through subs and dead pages of outdated information. People delete comments and down vote good information all the time and gatekeep knowledge from others for their personal gain and ego. Instead why not just a place where you can simply fade in and out as you wish. A place where people can jt share their experiences unfiltered. Just making this sub I was trying to post in different pages and each one of them has their rules that lead to my posts being deleted. Not in this sub. I would like to see a natural growth of information that will be here when someone comes looking for it. With full context of what has worked for people and what hasn't. Not just the success but the failures too. My new lifestyle I'm not on the Internet all day. I'm in my basement or in my garden with my family. We make a bunch of mistakes but we figured it out right. Anyway I'm a type of person that can talk forever once you get me going. If you would like to come to r/nogatekeepgardens. We would love to have you. Feel free to share your gardening or plant related experiences.

I was born yesterday

Literally what it sounds like. If I was born yesterday what would be the information and knowledge you would pass on to the future gardeners?

Self sufficientcy

Ah yes the ultimate Eden. Growing your own food and everything working together like a well oiled machine. You started somewhere right. Some people I'm sure would love to hear how your move off the food grid worked and started. Share your story. Allow others to grow and bloom. Not everyone knows what you do.

Newbie Grow advice.

We all get caught up in our own worlds of gardening. Each season brings new and exciting beginnings. Each harvest is better then the last. If you could go back in time and tell yourself what to do different, what would it be and why?
