Employment options

Just wondering if anyone else has been in a similar situation and what you ended up doing!
I’m currently working as a substitute Student Assistant (SA) and Teaching and Learning Assistant (TLA) with NL Schools. Unfortunately, with all the cutbacks and lack of available hours, I’m lucky if I get 5 hours of work a week. As much as I love working in the school system, it’s just not financially sustainable.
I’ve been seriously considering going back to university to further my education and hopefully open up more stable, better-paying career opportunities. Ideally, I’d like to complete my studies fully online so I can continue living here and work around my family.
I’m wondering if anyone else has been in a similar position and decided to go back to school?
What did you decide to study, and which university did you attend?
Were you able to complete your program fully online?
What funding options were available to you? Did you use student loans, grants, or receive assistance through EI or NL’s Skills Development program?
If you were considered underemployed due to a lack of work hours, did that help you qualify for any funding?
I’d especially love to hear from anyone who went back to university as an adult while juggling work and family life.
I’m just trying to explore my options and figure out whether going back to school is financially realistic. Any experiences, advice, or information would be greatly appreciated! 😊

Is there actually a sign for the speed camera by the Fox Trap exit on the TCH?

I drove through the area last week but I can't remember seeing any signage for the camera. I thought they had to have a sign posted.

Moving from Guelph,ON to Paradise,NL.

This is the quote I got from the mover, who came to my house and saw exactly what was being moved: 2 bedrooms, 3 floors, and a 10x10’ storage unit. Does it sound reasonable? Not bringing any large furniture (no sofas), buts tons of books and smaller pieces of furniture, but 2 queen sized beds with frames/headboards. Is this quote reasonable/going rate?

Came down over an extended weekend to attend my sister wedding. BEAUTIFUL Province. Sights are 10/10.

ALSO. You guys are wild for doing a Marathon on the Eastern Trail! What a way to wake up Saturday morning to look out the AirBnB window and you guys are running in that wicked weather. Kudos!

maple moose sausages

Does anyone know of a place that has maple sausages as an option for your moose? I've been looking and can't seem to find any.

Preferably somewhere between town and grandfalls.

Johnny ‘Fats’ Hogan

Today in the House of Assembly John Hogan gave a touching tribute to his missing friend, Dr. Thomas Hall. When listing off ‘da by’s’ the one that stuck out most to me was ‘Johnny Fats.’ Is that a friend of his or is he in fact Johnny Fats? Either way, makes him seem a lot cooler to me

Mary Browns - decline?

Just had some MB for the first time in a bit and was a little shocked how much it’s declined. What happened? My chicken fingers were so tiny. And the taters were mushy, like they were overcooked.

Are they cutting back with everything now, using new suppliers or did I get a one-off bad meal?

Cause today was disappointing 😞

How many times do you tap your drink after you say cheers? I do 3…one to ward off evil spirits, one for the bartender or host and one to those who are no longer with us

Sound Familiar?

Was watching Good Mythical Morning and the story at 6:50 sounded WAY too familiar. Double checked and, yup, they were talking about the guy from here who boiled bones.

I went to high school with him LOL

Here’s a link to the video they uploaded today; mentioned it at 6:50

Clarke’s Beach/North River old R.E.C. Church

Hi all! In NL every summer, visiting/bothering the youngest. This year I am planning on the Clarkes Beach area. My Nana was raised there. (Her fam from Bay Roberts/Ships Cove and area)

I have been searching for where her Church is that she went to. R.E.C., Reformed Episcopal Church. Rev. G. Goodchild, Clarkes Beach, North River. Was it the old George Anglican on Church Road, North River, or the United in Clarkes Beach. She was born nee Mugford in 1890. She had told me the following,
she walked down a path to get to said church, and she also said it was across water. Also her house burned down, and the TCH is now covering where the house was that she grew up in. If anyone understands my question, I thank you lol.

If you had to pick which population centre in Labrador to be the capital city of Labrador, what town are you picking?

In my opinion, Labrador city quite literally has the name city in it, but if I were to think about the unofficial capital of the Labrador peninsula, I would think of goose Bay
