ANSWERED Does comment karma earned in one subreddit count toward requirements in another?
I'm a Unity developer who recently created a separate Reddit account to share progress on my indie game.
One community requires 20 comment karma before I can post. Does comment karma earned in other communities count toward that requirement, or does it need to come from the community I want to post in?
I'm still learning how Reddit's karma system works.

I think most of the time, comment karma earned in other communities counts toward a subreddit's minimum requirement.

Yes, typically karma benefits are site wide. There are some subreddits, however, that have requirements for participation in the specific subbreddit. Most do not.

Thanks for clearing that up! I'm trying to build enough karma to participate in another subreddit, so this is really helpful.

Yes, comment karma is karma earned from comments in any subreddit.
Community karma is karma earned in a specific subreddit.

It should be noted that community karma is not actually a separate kind of karma. It's just the relatively few number of communities checking for community karma can specify that you have to have earned those points within that one community.
So if you're earned 10 karma points from a community about cats and the other 50 points you have brings you to 60 total your community karma for that specific community would be 10 points.
Note that karma does not increase directly 1:1 with each vote, the algorithm is fairly complex.

In my experience yes, most subs look at your total comment karma, not just what you earned in their sub. Some do use their own karma though, so it's worth checking the sidebar or the AutoMod message. Good luck with the game!
