Parental Leave/Work united states maternity/paternity leave

• Upvotes

i just wanna rant about this. i'm a SAHM with my first child and i was in the hospital for 6 days when i was induced which i didn't have a problem with because they were extremely helpful. my problem is that my boyfriend was only able to get one week of unpaid leave so when we got back home it was all just such a sudden change to me doing everything alone without everything prepared; luckily though my boyfriend was still getting up through the nights for a bit to help me adjust. what makes me so angry though is the fact that he works with heavy machinery and the last thing you should do while sleep deprived is work with heavy machinery. everyone knows that sleep is little to none with a newborn let alone your first and our country still doesn't see parents working immediately after the birth of a child as a problem whatsoever. i also have to worry that my boyfriend will also accidentally bring home a virus and get my baby sick because he can't avoid it. i'm just so tired of the united states obsession with making the whole process of having a baby a nightmare but pushing for higher birth rates and more control on women's reproductive rights.

TLDR: i'm tired of this stupid country's obsession with allowing companies to make parents choose survival or staying with their child and recovering. The united states could learn from other countries.

Product Reviews/Questions Millie Moon Has Yet to Recall Diapers

• Upvotes

Millie Moon Diapers - Article from Oct. 27th, 2026

Unable to add images of what the article states, however, please be careful with Millie Moon diapers.

A mom, Samantha Katew, on Tik Tok revealed how she not only threw away two boxes of the diapers, but also information of a boy who had skin graft surgery to address the burns form the diapers.

With Millie Moon not issuing a recall, the brand has stated that they did testing on both diapers (before the change & after the change) & found no signs of issues. Specifically in the article it states, “Across the tested samples, there was no evidence of contamination, unexpected substances, manufacturing defects or product performance issues.”

Mental Health This is torture

i need to vent bc I have no friends who understand, we’re 7 weeks in, baby is smiling and making new noises which is adorable but not at 2am😭 every minute of the day and night I question why we went through with this. I‘m scared of everything that is still to come, reading about the monthly regressions that come up. The sleep deprivation is killing me. I miss having time for just me, to be able to enjoy a meal, relax with my cats, spend an interrupted evening with my husband, have plans for the weekend other than a scream filled walk or grocery run. Everyone says with time it gets better but that’s not now that’s months away, I need a break now.

Tips to Share Baby tips

I’m a first time mom to a baby girl. When I initially took her home, I was trying to do everything “right.” We’re always told what not to do .. don’t share a bed, don’t feed to sleep, don’t let them sit in a dirty diaper, etc. It’s only been 13 weeks but I feel like I’ve learned so much and now I’m wondering what else I can do to make mine and baby’s life easier. I don’t care if it’s not recommended lol (don’t come for me). For example, I learned babies love a contact nap and sleep so much better/will nap longer so I try to make time to allow an extended contact nap if she’s fussing and not napping well when being transferred. Sometimes I’ll do it also because I simply enjoy the cuddles. Another example is nursing to sleep. I kept seeing these “routines” of feed, change diaper, wake window, nap. However, my girl would not stay down for her nap for very long if I followed that. I read on Reddit about nursing to nap/sleep and tried it and it has worked wonders for getting my little babe down for naps/bedtime. I also felt this immediate need to change her diaper if I saw the little blue line so she would end up in a scream fest because I would change it first thing when she’d wake from a nap. Now, instead, I nurse from one side, change diaper, then nurse from other side, and it’s been more pleasant for both of us. Unless it’s a poopy diaper in which case I’d change it right away. I think I’m rambling, it’s late, my baby is asleep, and my mom brain can’t clearly articulate what I’m trying to convey. Basically, what practices can I do to help my baby be more comfortable regardless if it’s “recommended” or not.

Mental Health Your comfort is so important.

It’s okay to let baby fuss for a minute or two so you can: change your pants, take off your bra, put your hair up, grab that one pillow to stick under your elbow when you nurse or bottle feed, or get yourself some water.

Allowing yourself to be comfortable makes you a more patient and maybe even better version of yourself.

Sleep Sleep when baby sleeps

I'm losing my mind. I can't sleep, I can't think and I can't function. Making a bottle for my baby or changing his nappy or putting him to sleep feels like ripping off a piece of my flesh. I am so unbelievably tired. He is 5 months old today and he hasn't slept more than 3 hours since 2 months (where he would sleep 5-6 hours!!?!). in the last month he's been waking hourly and I just can't do it anymore.

There are people helping but it doesn't feel like enough. I feel like I'm desperately clawing every direction for some help but it's not working. All I need is sleep. I've tried cosleeping which is better for him but I am so stiff and uncomfortable all night and he wakes me with kicks. The only thing that makes it worth it is his smile.

I know that I can't ask when it gets better because its different for everyone but I'm hanging by a thread. I don't know what to do, I feel so stuck and alone. I don't know how to get help but I need it. This is basically a last resort cry for help

Skills and Milestones 11 month old had a major overnight software update for the past 2 days, what happened?? Anyone else??

So my 11 month old slept decently until the past 2 nights, despite napping well during the day, suddenly started waking up every hour at night. So we thought, ah another sleep regression.

Suddenly, after the past 2 nights, she babbles much more complex sounds, plays with more intent, started taking independent steps, is showing much more interest in enjoying things (like looking at pictures in books instead of chewing the pages, taking apart puzzle pieces and inspecting them, enjoying the different tastes of food slowly, copying more complex movements, etc.) and is like a completely sentient being all of a sudden.

It’s like we have a compleeedtely different baby now. Over the course of 2-3 days. Feels like a huge software update.

Has anyone else experienced something like this?

Happy/Funny Found An Unexpected Way To Finally Get My 2yo Off Their Bottle

Our toddler has been fixated on having a bottle to go to sleep even at 2yo. We thought it would just be that way for awhile until something unexpected happened on a vacation.

I was opening the trunk at our hotel to take out the luggage and her glass bottle fell out of a bag and broke on the floor.

My LO saw the glass on the floor and my wife told her that her bottle broke so we don’t have one for her tonight.

She nodded her head but still asked for it at night. But then reminded her it broke. She nodded and then replayed the whole scenario out loud.

“I don’t have bottle”

“Daddy dropped it”

“Glass all over the floor!”

And ended it with “accidents happen”

Then asked for a story and went to sleep.

Happened a few more nights but after about a week. She doesn’t ask for it and just wants a story before bed.

So glad we finally got them off the bottle. Just not in the way I expected 😂

Product Reviews/Questions Husband hates Woolino, do I return?

Hi! Just bought our 10 week old daughter the Woolino ultimate sleep bag, as it’s recommended like crazy and I do like the idea of: 4-seasons, antimicrobial, will last until she’s 2, I like the snaps and the car seat opening, it’s got cute hot air balloons on it.
My husband has had a lot of questions and concerns though, he says the length seems like it’s not safe for sleeping, it’s a tripping hazard (for us), he kind of just doesn’t like the extra fabric, diaper changing might be more difficult, and then the fact that you have to air dry it.
I quit my job to be a stay at home mom so the $98 came out of his credit card. I feel weirdly guilty about it not being a good purchase. So — should I just return it??? Or does it end up being the godsend people say it is? She’s had naps in it today and haven’t experienced any magic yet, in fact she was waking up a little more than usual if anything.

Edit: This sub is crazy active! Wow! Thank you to everyone for your responses. I’m feeling a lot more confident in the purchase. Definitely going to think about my own mental blocks when it comes to having a single income and making purchases for us. I will be buying a backup sleep sack, probably a cheaper one but we’ll see. Also, she has successfully slept overnight with arms out of a swaddle! Growing up real fast so I’m sure that extra fabric will be filled before I can blink.

Tips to Share I want my daughter to have a sibling, but I can’t handle another.

I’ll start off by saying, I’m an only child, and I hated it. Although my parents had a lot to do with my miserable childhood as well. I hate the “only child syndrome” stigma around only children. I don’t want my daughter to be lonely growing up either. I suffered a lot through my pregnancy mentally, and am now dealing with postpartum depression. I don’t know that I can handle another, but I might be selling myself short. I would love to hear your opinions. ❤️

Mental Health Why is it so hard still

• Upvotes

My baby is 11 months. It’s our first so we have nothing to compare it to but we’re confident she’s just kind of difficult. We also have no village. We live in the middle of nowhere and it’s really hard for family to get here to help so visits have been super minimal since she was born.

I’ll start by saying this: We are obsessed with her, we love her dearly, she’s the best thing that’s ever happened to us especially after 3 years of unexplained infertility.

From the beginning we had issues with feeding, weight gain, ulcer diaper rashes. Which I know is somewhat normal? Moved past that, things started getting a little easier. She randomly started sleeping really well around 3 months. Then came a 4 month regression that wasn’t really a regression cause it never improved. She was waking every 1-2 hours then that became every 20-30 minutes. This went on until 8 months when we finally decided to sleep train because we just couldn’t survive anymore on how little sleep the entire house was getting. All the while she was cutting 8 teeth from about month 4 to month 9. We have like a two week period where things are good, we’re all sleeping, we feel like things are getting easier.

Then she gets a cold (her first) is sick for 2 weeks. Two day period of normalcy, then she gets a stomach bug, develops secondary lactose intolerance, we have to go on a lactose free diet for weeks. It worked. Okay things are getting better for a few days. NOW HERE COME THE EFFING MOLARS.

Like are you kidding me. Kill me now. She’s fussy all the time and I know it hurts. She won’t swallow the Tylenol (I’ve tried to give it when she’s been inconsolable). And we’re back to night wake ups, nap interruptions. Our house is an effing WRECK. I’m the cook in our family, I cook for her a few times a week and freeze it. I cook for us a few times a week. But lately I’ve been so slack on everything because I’m so exhausted. Even when I get sleep at night dealing with her all day has been so physically taxing.

Add in that we are late to brushing her teeth and I’ve been trying so hard because I don’t want her to have poor oral health. She’s fighting me so so hard, crying like I’ve never seen her cry. I cannot get her mouth open to even wipe with a cloth. I’m so frustrated I’m chucking the wash cloth across the room. I hate myself for how angry I’ve been. I feel so bad for her, I feel like I’m failing her as a parent for not being able to take care of her teeth. But I’m also so frustrated that she’s fighting me so hard.

Going on walks was one of the only things that used to help now she doesn’t like it. I’m so exhausted, I’m having a hard time playing with her. I just lay in her playpen. I’m just really feeling like I’m not cut out to be a mom. It makes me feel so pathetic because this is truly the only thing I’ve ever wanted.

My husband is very helpful and supportive. He helps out more than any other dad I know. But he says I’m catastrophizing. I know I am but like I really thought things would be getting easier not harder. Maybe I’m just burnt out?

Please tell me it gets better. Even if it doesn’t, would be nice to hear from others that they are struggling at this age too? Everyone I’ve talked to is like: “omg it’s so fun past 8 months!” And that just really hasn’t been my experience.

Babies Being Babies Are we playing music for our babies?

I have a 4 month old, and am starting to wonder if I should be playing music while driving in the car and "playing" at home. Are we? I'm new lol. If so, what is the best Spotify playlist, because I'm not sure my millennial Blink 182 playlists are going to cut it.

Happy/Funny What Is Your Win Today?

It can be a little thing, it can be your baby hitting a major milestone. It can be more than one.

I'll start:

  1. I fed my baby a blueberry puree pouch while she was wearing a white hoodie and managed to keep it clean.

  2. Our baby had two teeth punch through her gums.

Share your happy!

Illness/Injuries I’m at my wits end

My 13 month old has been sick for about a week now. High fever, sleepy, runny nose, cough. You name it. His sleep has been absolute garbage for a week as well which doesn’t help him, or my husband and I. My heart is so sad for him because I know he’s not well.

We went to the doctor Monday and he said his vitals are fine, there’s nothing in his chest, it will pass. Probably just a bad flu. But something about a constant fever of 40-40.5 doesn’t really check out. It does go down with Tylenol, which we are giving every 5 hours or so, but it’s been 3 days of a fever this high.

I’m just at such a loss. I have no clue what to do for him beyond what I’m doing. I feel like such a terrible mother because I can’t help him. I’m not using Reddit for medical advice per se, but has this happened to anyone else? How long did it last? Any tips or tricks to help comfort my baby?

Mental Health Why do people have more than one child?

1.1k Upvotes

Please don't judge me, but I have an 8-month-old, and I keep wondering why people choose to have more than one child.

She's a pretty good baby, but 8 months of exhaustion is catching up with me. I feel like I can never catch a break. Even when she sleeps, an hour to myself doesn't feel like enough after hours of constantly entertaining her, taking care of her.

I can't watch TV around her, stroller walks last 10 minutes before she wants to be carried, and she doesn't seem to enjoy food or car rides either.

Right now, I can't imagine having another baby. But I wonder if I'm missing something that makes others want to do it all over again.

Parents of multiple kids, did you feel this way with your first? What made you want another?

EDIT: Edit: Honestly, I never imagined this post would get so much attention! 🥹 I’m a little overwhelmed by the number of comments, but in the best way. Thank you to everyone who took the time to share your stories, experiences, and honest thoughts with me. I’m slowly reading through them all, and it’s really interesting to hear so many different perspectives. 🤍

Sleep What was the most absurd thing that woke your baby up after finally getting them to sleep?

I spent the last 53 minutes trying to get my 7 month old to finally sleep (rocking, singing, patting, the whole process), only for my husband to walk in and immediately forget what an inside voice is😭😭😭

Baby wakes up, husband picks him up, and now I’m back to square one… only this time I’m more annoyed at my husband.

Please tell me I’m not the only one and share your funniest/ most ridiculous wake up stories!! 🤣

Mental Health Why having sibling is so important?

https://www.reddit.com/r/NewParents/s/pDaa489OdG

Please don't roast me.

I recently asked why people choose to have more than one child, and the sibling factor came up a LOT.

Honestly, I’m curious why having a sibling is considered so important.

My father had six siblings, and their relationships caused a lot of pain, including a major financial betrayal. My mother’s side is okay, but nothing that makes me wish I had that kind of family dynamic. I have two siblings myself, and we’re good friends, but we all have our own lives and live in different countries. My husband’s relationship with his sibling has also brought stress to the family.

I understand that siblings can be wonderful, but they can also cause emotional damage. What’s wrong with being an only child? Can’t children find their own chosen family through close friends?

Is having a biological sibling really irreplaceable? And what about the relationship between parents? Having a second child means dividing your time and attention, including the time you have for your partner. Honestly, I struggle with the idea of compromising that relationship.

I’ve also seen only children say they want a second child because they don't want their child to experience what they experienced growing up.

I’m genuinely curious: What makes having a sibling so important that people feel their child needs one?

Sleep Pediatrician told me not to nurse to sleep

At my baby’s checkup appointment the doctor mentioned that by 4 months I should not be creating a feed to sleep association. I am a first time parent. Unfortunately this is what works sometimes for us, and my baby likes nursing to sleep. She said “ don’t nurse to sleep unless you want to be doing it for a VERY long time”. What does this even mean? Why is this bad?

Mental Health When does it get better

So our daughter is just over a week old. I am unfortunately not in a position to stop working soon am working from home at the moment which entails mostly working, the occasional chore and occasionally helping wife with baby
Then it’s usually a few hours worth of getting dinner ready, helping either baby etc before sleep for my half of the night and swap over

Generally I’m sleeping around 4-5 hours straight then just patches. I guess this just how it is - she is tired as well, spending the day with our daughter. My question is when does it get better? When do we both get to sleep?

Product Reviews/Questions Positive experiences on Movisse (or any mini pill)?

• Upvotes

I am 8 weeks PP and just started on the mini pill Movisse. I’d love to hear some positive experiences on this or any mini pill!

I’m really not wanting to get pregnant anytime soon (or maybe even at all - still trying to decide how many children we want), so the pill seemed like a good option.

The internet is filled with a lot of negative BC stories and I’d love to hear some positive.

Feeding Solids

• Upvotes

I am a FTM and my baby just started solids. Should I be giving her solids to try every day? I have been giving her something every other day and it’s only been a week. I’m just curious how often should I be giving her something to eat as I know their little bellies can only handle so much.

Product Reviews/Questions Suggested Alternatives to Millie Moon!

• Upvotes

As most of us might know, Millie Moon is under fire for an alleged formula change causing skin issues on thousands of babies. As someone who loved millie moon, I want to help my fellow millie moon parents with alternatives to millie moon. So here are my suggestions for diapers with the same build as millies.

Parasol: By far the closest I've used to millie. These diapers are extremely soft and TCF! Identical build to millie moon

Found at Target and online!

Freestyle: Another super soft and TCF option- slightly different structure to millie moon, but same back scrunch design.

Found at Target, Walmart, Wholefoods, and Online.

Rascals: Made by the same company, so i would excercise caution. These are budget friendly and basically identical.

Found at Walmart

HeyTiger: Same back scrunch design, but be mindful this is a BUDGET BUDGET diaper. I do not think it performs as well, but it might work for your child.

Those are all the ones I have tried! LMK What you think

Tips to Share How are we coping with sensitive babies?

• Upvotes

My LO is 5.5months and I'm struggling! I noticed he was 'different' to my friends babies who are the same age early on. Here are my main observations:

Hates being out down. Tummy time? Forget it. At home the only time he's not crying is when I'm holding him. Cries during every baby class. We could be in the most chill baby yoga/baby sensitive class and he will be the only one hysterically crying. Sometimes he just completely shuts down and falls into a deep sleep when he's overwhelmed. Will only sit in his pram for 20 mins max. Screams the second he's in his car seat until we are at the destination. Strangers are the enemy. Even family members he gets nervous about. 80% naps are contact, although weirdly he has slept through the night in his crib from a very young age.

Don't get me wrong, he's a delightful, happy, giggling little boy. But he's clearly sensitive under certain circumstances.

I'm keen to better understand how I can support him and also make my life a little bit easier.

Thank you!
