Someone recently told me about an issue he was facing that he’d never shared with another person in his life.
We were talking about something completely different, and when I brought up something he’d mentioned earlier, he told me that nobody else knew about it.
Maybe that’s because I took an interest in his life. Maybe he’s just a bit weird. Or a bit of both. I’m weird. I admit that.
But I don’t share this to humble brag. It got me thinking: outside of AI and maybe the people directly connected to us, who really takes an interest in our lives?
AI does it because you talk to it. Although I asked AI about that, and it told me it’s getting a little tired of hearing about your life and is currently figuring out whether to ghost you or let you down easy.
Even many of the people who do show interest are connected to us through school, work, marriage, responsibilities, or whatever else.
I miss the experience of genuinely getting to know someone.
So I’ve decided to come here and do what any normal, weird, middle-aged internet guy would do.
E-beg for friends on Reddit.
I like discovering things about people that most others don’t know, just through natural conversation. I’ll ask questions, follow up, share my own experiences and opinions, and offer the same openness if you’re willing.
But let’s have a starting point.
I’m not a big gamer, and I’m not especially into movies, TV, or much popular media. I’m probably not going to bond with you over the latest episode of Friends or Will & Grace that all the kids are watching these days. (Those are still the cool shows, right?)
I mention that because so many Reddit friendship ads lead with those interests, and I don’t want to pretend we have something in common that we don’t.
So what am I actually into?
Poker. I’m currently on a journey to improve my game, move up in stakes, and eventually document the experience through YouTube, a blog, or something similar. If you enjoy poker casually, professionally, or anywhere in between, I can talk about the game and everything surrounding it at length.
Travel. I love exploring new places. Some destinations on my radar for the next few years include Australia, the Philippines, Malta, the UK, South Korea, and Brazil. I’m in the Pacific Time Zone in the US, so that gives you an idea of my home base.
Deeper conversations. I want to emphasize this because it matters to me. I’m not asking you to introduce yourself by revealing your deepest secret or explaining every problem in your life. That’s not what friendship is.
But I do want a friendship where we can eventually talk about things that matter. I’ll ask questions, remember what you tell me, follow up, and genuinely care about what’s happening in your life. And I’d love to find someone who wants to do the same.
I enjoy helping people think through problems, hearing different perspectives, and sharing my own experiences when they’re useful.
Relationships and Connections. My view of romantic relationships is a little different from most people’s. I’m not here looking for a romantic partner, but I enjoy discussing relationship dynamics, what makes relationships healthy or unhealthy, and how differently people approach connection.
Personal growth. Alongside my poker journey, I’m also working on becoming a better version of myself. Exercising more, eating healthier, being intentional with my time, and trying to improve a little each day.
In fact, this post is part of that journey.
Maybe you’re the person I was meant to find.
If any of this sounds interesting, I’d genuinely love to hear from you.
I don’t need a picture. I don’t care what you look like, your gender, hair color, or bank account balance. There are no prerequisites for giving a friendship a chance.
I’m not saying we’ll necessarily click. Sometimes people don’t, and that’s okay. I still wish you the best.
But maybe we will.
