Hey everyone,
I'm 20M, currently in my 5th semester of college, and honestly, I've been feeling pretty lost lately.
I got attached to someone, and over time, I started giving them most of my time and attention. I became so scared of losing this person that when problems arose between them and my other friends, I chose their side because I wanted to keep them in my life.
Eventually, those friendships broke down, and now I'm left in a situation I never really expected to be in.
The difficult part is that this person is also someone I keep getting hurt by, yet detaching myself feels incredibly hard. I think a big reason is that they became such a huge part of my daily life. When you get used to talking to someone regularly, sharing things with them, and looking forward to their messages, it's hard to let go, even when you know the attachment isn't good for you anymore.
Lately, it's started affecting my ability to focus on studying, and that's genuinely worrying me. I'm in a crucial phase of college, with internships and placements approaching, and I don't want to jeopardise my future because I can't get my emotions under control.
I've decided to take a step back from this person and focus on myself, my studies, and rebuilding my life. But I'm also realising that I miss having friends, people to talk to about random things, share music or interests with, play games with, or just have normal conversations with without overthinking everything.
I'm not necessarily looking for someone to fix my problems. I'd just like to meet people who understand what it's like to get attached, lose themselves a little in the process, and try to find their way back.
If you've experienced something similar, how did you move forward? How did you rebuild your social life and learn to be okay without that one person being the centre of your world?
And if anyone here is around my age and wants to talk, make friends, share interests, or just have chill conversations, feel free to reach out. I'd genuinely like to get to know some new people.
Thanks for reading. :)
