OC Average Attendance is Down in 2026

Post image
59 Upvotes

I started tracking some numbers using baseball-reference.com, comparing 2026 with 2025, and for funsies, 2019. One of the things that stood out is that home attendance is seemingly way down compared to the same number of games in 2025.

Average Home Attendance Through 35 games:

  • 2026: 22,094 (16 games)
  • 2025: 26,206 (16 games)
  • 2019: 27,107 (18 games)

That feels like a BIG drop, and the overall attendance totals are already noticeably lower in the chart compared to last year. This surprised me, especially since the start of the season has at least felt more fun and exciting, even if the wins/losses aren't all that different from last year up to this point.

edit: data was slightly off for the end of the 2025 season. Updated chart is here, but it does not change any of the numbers above. Attendance is still way down now compared to this same time last year.

edit 2: Spencer Nusbaum posted the same thing to X, with the added note, "Nats Park has seen the biggest attendance drop of any park in MLB. Average attendance through the first 16 home games of 2025 and 2026..."

Personally a huge fan of the uniforms from RFK Nats days, but what they did to our road uniforms shouldn’t stand. The uniform is bland enough that MLB Shop doesn’t even seem to have it in stock when I checked for a photo.

OC 2nd Annual r/Nationals Playoff Rooting Interest Poll

Now that the Nationals season has ended, we are bringing back our r/nationals playoff rooting interest poll! Hopefully we never have to do this shit again tho...

Like last year, please make a submission and let us know which team you want to raise the piece of metal at the end of the playoffs.

Each team will have 5 tiered choices:

  • YES! Tier - I would be fully thrilled by this team winning the World Series.

  • Fine Tier - I would be semi-thrilled by this team winning the World Series.

  • No Preference - I have no feelings about this team winning the World Series.

  • Half-Ew Tier - I would be semi-disgusted by this team winning the World Series.

  • Full-Ew Tier - I would be fully disgusted by this team winning the World Series

After the results are announced, we will pledge our 2026 Playoff Allegiance with the subreddit of the team we are supporting! Last year we threw in with r/mariners. I didn't release the votes last year and don't plan to this year, so feel free to be truthful.

OC What to look forward to for the rest of the season?

Since Nationals have somewhat moved on from this season (rightfully so), I was wondering how we could remain interested for the rest of the season.

Yes, we love baseball but tough to watch them lose season after season so biggest stat to track will be whether this team can deliver their first winning season since 2019. Nobody expected the chance of winning season before this season started. However, I feel like we all would be a bit disappointed if this team doesn’t end up at .500 or better. Currently they are 3 games below .500 about two months games left. I truly hope they can get a winning season at least.

Team Stats: offense has been the main reason behind Nationals current standing. However, the league leading offense has slowed down a bit recently and traded away a couple of players from it. Having said that, Nationals are still leading all of mlb in several stats, some by razor thin margin (SB) and some by a decent margin (runs scored). It would be nice to see this team keep pace and lead in HR, RBI, Runs Scored, SLG, and SB. I don’t think Nationals have ever lead the league in most of these stats, let alone all at the same time.

Player Stats: several hitters are leading NL in some offensive stats as expected. Wood is leading runs scored and walks. He has sizable leads in both, 22 for runs scored and 21 for walks. He is likely to break the single season Nationals (2005-present) record for runs scored too (100 vs 119 by Soriano in 2006). Nunez has a sizable lead in stolen bases, 40 vs 27. If he ups his numbers a bit more, he might break CJ’s Nats record in a season (47). Abrams is tied at 85 for rbi. Garcia currently leads SLG but unfortunately that has come to an end. Wood isn’t far behind from league leaders for home runs (30 vs 33) and OPS (.947 vs .932).

All in all, there are some things to keep an eye out for while the team may trade another player or two away. Also, there might be some negative stats Nats might be leading in but I choose to ignore those for now. 😅

Anyways, good luck to this team and FO for the rest of the season.

It’s a Twins/Nats game, Nats are ahead 4-0 in the bottom of the third, scoring all 4 in the first. Danny Espinosa is up with a man on third.

These are Connect Connects, City Connects that are themed specifically around transportation! Every team has gotten one at this point. Check my profile for the other teams.

We got:

The DC License plate

And the Washington Metro

Am I missing any important transportation that you guys take to Nationals Park ? Is there something to be improved upon ?

Hi everyone, to celebrate us breaking the MLB record for blown saves this season, I decided to create this Sporcle quiz to drown out my sorrow. I hope you enjoy it, it's quite the fun trip down memory lane of the season and a good test to see how much you've been paying attention.

OC MLBShop discounts are a joke

I went in to vote for James Wood, like a good Nats fan, and the way I did it must have prompted a marketing email because I got a 20% discount code from MLBshop.com. I was intrigued so I went to the Nats store and found two items I wanted. While shopping, I saw all these pop-ups for free shipping on orders over $39. "Just use the code 39FS."

I get to the checkout. 39FS is already applied and the shipping is free. I go to add in my 20% off and I learn you can only add one promo code for an entire order. I remove the free shipping code and add the 20% off, and an $11.99 shipping fee gets added, which basically wipes out the 20% discount.

First of all, what a gargantuan shipping fee for two pieces of clothing. And second, they've rigged the system! There is no discount! Either you pay full price by getting "free shipping," or you pay the equivalent of full price because the discount is wiped out by the cost of shipping. You cannot win on these already overpriced pieces of clothing.
