STOLEN Bike stolen from City Hall area

Hoping this is an okay place to post about this. If anyone sees this bike for sale or anywhere else, I would be so happy to be reunited with it.

Frame is 50cm!

I filed a report at the police station and I’m combing fb marketplace/craigslist. Unfortunately I don't have a serial number but I’ve been told to post in Facebook groups. If anyone has any other advice, I’d be grateful. I know odds are slim but I'll do what I can.

Alert: Police Ticketing Cyclists at 60th Street / Grand Army Plaza for Crossing the crosswalk through pedestrians

Police are ticketing cyclists for passing into he curved part of 60th street & 5th Avenue for "passing through pedestrians at a crosswalk" when the DONT WALK sign is activated for pedestrians and they walk through anyway because it's tourists walking towards / from 5th ave. Mind yourselves and ride carefully.

Question Are ebikes allowed in the 1st Ave bike lane during rush hour, or is my motor wattage already an issue here?

hey everyone - moving over from mar vista in LA to the east village next month (right near ave B & east 7th). i'm bringing my helokeep cd20 cargo bike with me in the move and was really hoping to use it for my work commute instead of the train.

my office is up near 1st ave and east 30th in kips bay, usually need to be at my desk by 9 and head out around 6. i saw the thread on here a little while back about the resurfacing on 1st ave and figured that bike lane would make the most sense for heading uptown in the morning, tho i'm still trying to figure out the best route back downtown in the evening.

the thing im second guessing now is the legal side here. mine is a heavy cargo ebike with normal pedals, a throttle, dual 48v batteries, and 20x4 fat tires, and the spec sheet lists the motor at 1,100w sustained / 1,500w peak. i started reading up on the NY rules yesterday and saw the part about ebike motors needing to be under 750w, so now i'm not even sure if this bike qualifies anymore.

are there specific rush hour rules on the 1st ave lane, or is that motor rating already a problem on paper regardless of what time i ride?

if anyone here rides between the east village and kips bay regularly i'd love to hear how strict enforcement actually is if you're just pedaling normal speeds. would be awesome to just strap my work bags to the rack and roll straight to the office, assuming there's a legal way to do it without getting ticketed right away.

[UPDATE] We talked about it, and Mamdani’s DOT did something about it

Wow, what a difference just a few jersey barriers make. I used to actively avoid this path and now it’s my preferred route.

Now if we could only do something about the trash container juice on Union Square E…

Bike Lane Paint

General Question:
Why is it that only ‘protected’ bike lanes painted green? I feel that lanes might be a bit more respected if both standard and protected lanes would be painted green.

They're doing it!

When I saw the new asphalt on Brooklyn Bridge Blvd (to Manhattan) being made flush to the island, I was like, "oh man, it'd be nice if they had the bike lane on THIS side and you could ride right onto the island"

And, lo! This morning they had the white lines in place for just such a scenario.

EDIT: I'm sure the plan was in the works prior, but I don't care - THANKS MAMDANI!

Northbound on 6th Ave vs 2nd Ave, weekday mornings

[Edit: I wrote 2nd Ave in the title, I meant 1st Ave]

I commute to midtown from Brooklyn by bike. I cannot figure out why the timing of the green lights northbound is so much more continuous on 1st Ave than it is on 6th Ave.

Northbound on 1st I can cover thirty-plus blocks before I hit another red. But on 6th, I can sometimes cross 12 streets before I'm racing a yellow.

Anyone else noticed this discrepancy?

Hey, everyone!

Just wanted to let y'all know that this is the last week that Joe is gonna be at Frank's. We still have classic Schwinn bikes left and a few of Frank's rental bikes to sell.

All classic bikes are 25 dollars and the rental bikes are 50 bucks. We also have like 3 children's bikes left brand new in the box as well (these are 50). Any children's bikes (including bmx) are priced at 20 bucks. We have 1 tandem left ($150) that also needs a bit of work, but I just added a sprocket yesterday and 1 tandem frame just sitting there.

Everything MUST go, if not, they might have to trash them. I'd rather people actually have these beautiful bikes than to scrap.

Please if you can, come through and buy whatever is left. They have also scrapped MANY of the drawers and parts for bikes, so it's gonna be a bit messy. Just let me know if you need anything and I'll do my best to help! You can also just buy bulk stuff and Joe will give you a good price.

Thanks for all your love and support, guys! ❤️

-John
