I built a free site that lists the college volleyball near any zip code - D1, D2, D3, NAIA and JUCO - pulled from the schools' own schedules and re-checked nightly
I had this idea after the pandemic and finally decided to build it. ESPN and the usual event sites didn't do what I wanted for finding live sports to watch. I wanted something like Bandsintown for sports: give it a location and it tells you what's nearby.
With conference play heading into its last few weeks, here's what's on it for volleyball:
Women's college volleyball: about 1,800 programs, including all of D1 (about 350), plus D2, D3, NAIA, NJCAA and the California JUCOs, the USCAA and NCCAA, and the U SPORTS teams in Canada. That's about 3,900 upcoming matches right now.
The volleyball near you that you might not know about: most D1 towns have D2, D3 or NAIA programs within a short drive, and those matches are often free or close to it. For example, within 30 miles of Minneapolis over the next two weeks there are 24 matches. Two are Gophers home matches (Penn State on Nov 6), two are NSIC D2, and the other 20 are MIAC D3.
Conference tournaments and NCAA tournament matches show up as the schools post them.
Men's college volleyball isn't on it yet. The season doesn't start until January, and I'd like to add it before then.
It's not just volleyball, either. The same site covers basketball, hockey, soccer, football, baseball, lacrosse and more, across about 2,000 colleges in every division plus the pro and minor leagues. That's roughly 90,000 upcoming games in all.
There are no accounts and no ads. It's just a hobby site.
Schedules come straight from each school's published schedule and are re-checked every night, so time changes and postponements show up the next morning.
Every list is also a plain-text or JSON feed. For example, here's all volleyball within 30 miles of Minneapolis for the next two weeks: floodlit.us/api/feed?zip=55455&days=14&sports=Volleyball&format=text (it takes any zip, up to 30 days, and a radius up to 100 miles). You can also subscribe to any list as a calendar (.ics) so it shows up in your phone's calendar app.
If your team or gym is missing or wrong, tell me in the comments. School schedules come in a lot of formats, and I've been fixing things as I find them, but I'm sure some are still off.
It's probably rough around the edges, but I'm trying to find out whether this is useful at all.
