It's probably because they both have heavy Bowie influence, which younger people might not know who that is, so their only frame of reference for character heavy concept music is MCR.

Lmao same, and I've been a huge Chappell fan for a year now (and MCR for almost 20 years). I've never heard them spoken about in the same sentence (the only thing was when she was promoting The Giver and wore a blue suit, people compared that to Hesitant Alien). I guess the theatrics are similar, if that's what people mean?

Both MCR and EA are wild comparisons. I kind maybe understand the EA one a little bit more, but they sound nothing alike. (that being said I havent really delved into her discography much) Why would she be compared to MCR though?
