After now finally watching the end of the season, and confirming my suspicion that team Orange would take it, I will just out bat acknowledge a few elephants in the room:

THE FINAL

1. The final was unfair. Notice I said unfair, not necessarily rigged. There is a difference. WOTW 2 Final was unfair where the dominant American team with more players had a gurney with more weight, but couldn’t have more people hold the gurney.

Think about that … But because we all hated Paulie, and we loved Jordan and the narrative of him switching teams and beating paulie and the americans like he said he would, we loved it.

Team Orange SHOULD have been forced to wait until CT was either DQ’d, or could move again forcing them to probably end up losing in a final like this or CT to have lost.

This is one of MANY points I feel where now conflicting fan biases start to make this all very complicated.

CT PARADOX

CT is one of the most beloved challengers if not the most ever. The past two seasons, his performance has not been up to par, but because he is so beloved he gets a pass.

Bananas may be a dick but he’s spot on in that if he performed like that, because of how the fan base and cast feel about him, he’d be treated like the worst challenger of all time.

TORI’S MANIC DRIVE TO WIN

Then there’s helicopter Tori, and people going crazy on that but didn’t have a problem back in the day with CT and Big Easy? Or Frank & Sam. Kenny & Wes. LAUREL TEARING ZACH UP.

This is a show where HIGHLY COMPETITIVE PEOPLE COMPETE HARD. Not all the time, but definitely at those points and a final is that point. Jordan would act similarly, Laurel would, numerous other competitive pyschos would push a weak link (and thats what CT was to the team) to the brink like that. It is what it is, and not only that its AWESOME TO SEE.

That ferocious will to win probably saved the orange team, as well as gray having Cassidy as an anchor.

WOMEN SHOWED OUT!

You have to Feel for Gray team because all in all, because CT was such an anchor they probably did deserve to win unless he got DQ’d from exhaustion and orange could go at a better pace. Cara really redeemed her performance this season, Adrienne was steady & consistent, and Lete made it look remarkably easy.

ASTERISK THE WIN, BUT WE SHOULD RESPECT ALL THE FINALISTS

I think the Orange Team’s win deserves an or multiple asterisk , thats fair. But after watching that to not respect every person in that final? Crazy to me.

Will psyching himself up in the morning off that fucked knee? Michelle and Tori dogging 2 of the most accomplished male challengers of all time, and the new workhorse of the show , beasting a final in those conditions.

Gray team, a team of all women absolutely killing the final on the verge of an absolutely unprecedented win.

Adrienne & Cara doing it for their mothers. Lete & Tori just doing it for an absolute drive to just win. Its awesome to see, and the final was pretty brutal.

Even Bananas man, at that age, I think he was by far the most realistic the whole final. I don’t think he was going to push CT to the point of exhaustion and would have worked at his pace as opposed to Tori trying to push it all the time and he just flat out performed. He pushed through, he was the first one to volunteer for night duty, and he has that experience, a certain grit, and he is very valuable in a team setting.

Rough showing for CT because despite the win, it feels really gifted because he kind of was an anchor to the team anyway. Never had a huge puzzle moment he could show he’s “needed,” and Its pretty clear that Orange probably would’ve won pretty handily if they had Justin instead of CT.

FORMAT HAD GAPING HOLES IN IT… NOT ALL PRODUCTIONS FAULT

I get it, once the triple DQ happened, the format became super weak. People guaranteed to go in, even off a win, super imbalanced teams but I think they made kool aid out of dirty runoff.

Besides completely compromising Orange and re-blending the teams which had many downfalls as well, there was only so much that could be done.

Seeing what was to come though, UFC on paramount, physical challenges, I give them credit because IF situations out of their control had not gone down we would have gotten even more EPIC moments this season.

Nelson vs a Chris , or a Leo in a headbanger, or maybe josh at a point (fuck him) gets in there. Male mercenaries wouldve been insane!

I still think though, this season delivered moments! Which just brings me to my next point:

OPTIMISM FOR THE FUTURE
Anna Leigh & Lete are worth their weight in challenge gold.

I really like the showing this season from Adrienne, showed her competitive side and that she’s constantly improving, while having an underrated social game while also being able to make moves. No sophomore slump from her, strong addition to the cast.

Also quick line for Deb chub. Been a while since she was on screen but GREAT for the show as well. Feels like that authentic realty personality that we can see develop into a challenger over time like the old days.

TORI. People love to hate her, & thats GOOD for the show. She is the female face of the show love it or hate it and more than any other season , she lived up to it! Volunteering into elimination, pushing her team like a fucking psycho, making moves unapologetically, stirring the pot, she really came to play and I get that she’s now a favorite so we root to se her lose a bit. Oh would she have gone down if it was Lete? Valid point. Let’s see it play out in the future, thats what The Challenge is all about.

RIVALRIES. Some buzz that CT blocked Tori on IG? Possibly deserved but also great fodder for future challenge seasons. AL vs Cara, AL vs Lete, AL vs Justin, AL vs good decision making, Justin vs Cedric, Justin vs Tori, CT vs Tori, CT vs the notion that he’s finally washed (despite getting #6). All this shit is going to fuel future seasons ESPECIALLY when you add in other castmates. A Devin, a Jordan, a Theo, a whoever we want to see in addition to these great cast from this season.

THEY TRIED. This season wasn’t perfect, but very rare few come close to that feat. They gave us a season with I think really significantly increased challenge & elimination quality, better editing (but still needs work), and best rookie casting (BESIDES JOSH) in a long time. Let them cook, take the gems from this season and work to avoid the disaster that took 5 members from ONE team on one season, and I think they will cook.

Not going to lie, as a die hard fan its sad to see so much negativity surrounding the show. I get its faults, but I don’t think the product is dead, I think its actually turning a corner and I’m not coping. If, and it is a big IF, they deliver the right cast next season and a decent enough format, next season will be a BANGER , I believe it.

This is just a nuanced season that isn’t as black or white most people want to paint it out to be. I still enjoyed it!

I have been watching the challenge since early 2000s. I remember The Gauntlet was one of the first shows I watched from beginning to end.

1. Johnny wasn't known as Bananas then. In fact I don't even think he was Johnny lol. I think he was just John. In the flashback, CT specifically says "Bananas" which wasn't even an established nickname until The Island, and even after that for a few seasons he was still called Johnny.

2. Bananas voice in his first couple seasons was way softer. I'm not sure how to explain it, but anybody who has watched as long as I have knows that Johnny's voice from earlier seasons sounds distinctly different. However in the flashback, they give him his voice that sounds similar to his voice today.

It's not a big deal I'm just bored and have watched way too much of this show and it's something I picked up on lol

Challenger Takeover (beta)

This is the first proof of concept for career mode so bear with it. Take any challenger in the database and play as them through a season of Free Agents. Make decisions, confront, flirt, protect, and make it all the way to T.J.’s final. Hell you can even DQ or get someone else DQed if you really push someone. Free Agents is the only playable season right now but my next task is to get a challenger from fresh meat ii to at least total madness so you guys can relive the careers of your favourite challengers.

I was slower at writing this than CT was at running the Final, but if you need a refresher on what happened in Part 1 before tomorrow's episode, check out my review.

It’s the finale of cutthroat 2 today. Will orange finish in a golf cart? Will lete, Adrienne and Cassidy get their first win? Or will Michele and will get it? What will the day one advantage be? Will we see the triage station?

He deleted it but even Jordan just posted on Instagram that the challenge messed up letting ct back w no consequence. Said it was extremely unfair

As much as I’d love to see an “MTV vs all” season (anyone casted on an MTV show vs other shows i.e big brother, survivor , love island, etc), we just finished a team season and so I think the answer is clear - DUEL 3!

Now that Johnny and CT have won again, I think they cast members (I.e Jordan) are hungrier now than ever + we easily have the best crop of female competitors available that the challenge has ever seen. Let’s get an individual format going again, keep the same rules as the OG Duels, and see who the best is.

I’d like to see a season with a cast full of the best to have played but haven’t won compete against each other. Cast like Leroy, Cory, Nany, Kam, Anessa, Kyle,
Theo, Cedric, Michaela etc.
