Discussion Question for Moroccans abroad "Europe daret fik 5ir"

• Upvotes

For Moroccans living abroad, let's take for example France

I always interact with the kind of people that say to you Franca daret fik 5ir, you should be grateful, 9eratek, 5edmatek etc...

While from day 1 when i moved abroad i spent from my pocket money, the country didn't pay for my education, i did, i paid for my rent, i struggled, i spent lot of money to get my degree and work

And the company i work for, did not hire me because they are a charity trying to help me with a job, i earn my salary, i offer a value and in return i get paid. Also i pay my taxes to get healthcare benefits, the country does not provide me with free healthcare just for my face, it is pre paid from my salary in a monthly subscription called taxes

I hate that type of people that they tell you you should be grateful because the country gave you education, job and healthcare, while i didn't get anything for free, i paid from my pocket to get the degree, i produce added value to my company to earn my salary, and i pay my taxes to get healthcare access, this is not a charity system, this is pure business relationship, if i didn't graduate or pay my uni fees the gov will not renew my residency for example duh.

AskMorocco Any Halloween events or parties in Casablanca this weekend?

Hey everyone . Halloween is this Saturday and I'm trying to find something fun in Casablanca. Does anyone know of any parties, themed nights, or events happening? Open to anything: clubs, cafés, hangouts. If you've been to a good one in past years, I'd love to hear about it. Thankies! 🎃

AskMorocco Starting a side hustle / remote work from Morocco: How do international payments and local banks work?

Hey everyone,

I'm Moroccan and currently based in Morocco and looking to start a side hustle. I'm trying to have a 100% remote job or launching my own independent gig. Still figuring that part out.

My main goal is to get paid in hard currency (EUR/USD), but I’m quite confused about how the banking system here handles it. I currently use Banque Populaire (BP).

I have a few specific questions for anyone with experience or knowledge on this:

Legality: Am I legally allowed to receive money from abroad into a Moroccan bank account?

Bank intervention: Will the local bank flag or freeze incoming international transfers?

Large amounts: If I start receiving large payouts, what is the proper procedure or paperwork required by Moroccan banks?

Best practices: Should I use intermediary tools (like Payoneer, Wise, etc.) or stick to direct wire transfers? How do you guys manage taxes and currency conversion without losing too much on fees?

Would love to hear about your experiences, tips, or any advice you have for someone starting out. Thanks a lot!

Discussion Notice periods in Morocco are INSANE

wdym 2 months if i have a little over one year at the company (as cadre)!!? i'm not that important!! 2 weeks is more than enough for everyone even for executive level roles. It's seriously time they update the notice periods in the law. i now feel forced to resign before the year is over so that i wouldn't have to stay an extra month.

At the core of a smart green city is data-driven efficiency. Artificial intelligence and internet-connected sensors now allow cities to manage resources in real time. Smart grids dynamically adjust electricity distribution based on demand, which drastically cuts down on energy waste.

AskMorocco Should I buy a house in Morocco or keep my financial freedom?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently facing a bit of a dilemma and would appreciate some outside perspectives.

I'm 26 years old, and my family has been encouraging me to buy a house. We recently found what seems like a decent deal in Rabat. It's an older house that needs renovation, so the plan would be for me to take out a mortgage to purchase it, while my family would help cover the renovation costs.

For context, I've been working in the public sector for a little over two years now, earning around 10,000 MAD per month, plus approximately 12,000 MAD in annual bonuses. I also have around 70,000 MAD in savings.

Here's where I'm hesitant: I'm considering changing jobs within the next three years, possibly even sooner if a good opportunity comes along. I'm worried that taking on a mortgage at this stage of my life would tie me down and limit my ability to pursue opportunities elsewhere, whether in another city or even abroad.

On the other hand, I know that owning a house at my age could be a great long-term investment, especially with my family's willingness to help with the renovations.

I guess my biggest fear is sacrificing my flexibility and financial freedom too early, especially when I'm not entirely sure where my career will take me.

Am I overthinking this, or are my concerns justified? Should I just ntwakal 3la Allah and go for it?

I'd really appreciate hearing from people who've been in a similar situation, especially those who bought property young or had to balance homeownership with career opportunities.

Also, if anyone has advice or experience with government assistance programs for first-time homebuyers in Morocco, particularly for purchasing older properties, I'd love to hear about it. Any tips on financial aid, subsidized loans, or other benefits I might be eligible for would be greatly appreciated.

Education Medschool and Anki in morocco

Hey everyone,
I’m currently a 3rd-year medical student doing my clinical rotations. I’m transitioning to using Anki for my clinical modules (sémiologie, patho, pneumo, etc.) and was wondering how other Moroccan med students handle this, since it is a lot of work to create your own cards and i also have a pretty active everyday life i may not be able to find the time to do so ever.
Since a lot of our lectures are very specific to our faculties and CHUs, do you guys build everything from scratch using Image Occlusion, or are there community Google Drives, Discord servers, or shared decks for Moroccan medical students and better if special to a faculty !

Any tips, links, or shared resources would be hugely appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Travel Oukaimeden is finally getting a multi-season upgrade ! Great news for Moroccan winter sports 🏂❄️

Sawrt had l-panneau f Oukaïmeden. It looks like Phase I of the official restructuring project is underway to turn it into a 4-season leisure destination. Really exciting to see investment going into Moroccan mountain infrastructure!

(By the way, as an a developer, seeing this actually inspired me to build a winter sports & snow-tracking app for our mountains!)

What do you guys think? Do you still visit Oukaïmeden during the snow season, or do you prefer other spots

Travel What to Except Traveling to Morocco

Hello everyone. I’m a 31 year old male thinking of traveling to Casablanca and Marrakech for about 12 days from the US in December. It will be a solo trip.

I’m a Muslim and I’m primarily interested in visiting some of the mosques, learn a bit about the history and culture, and just find time to relax at a cafe or something and people watch.

What can I expect as a solo traveler with my background. What are somethings I should be mindful or careful off.

Any recommendation on a spefic companie?

AskMorocco Please help :( Moroccan visa still pending after a month

Hey everyone!

I'm Lebanese and I'm supposed to travel to Morocco this Sunday, November 1, for an IEEE conference in Marrakech where I'll be presenting my research paper.

I applied for my visa on September 25, so it's been over a month now, and I still haven't heard anything back.

I've called the Moroccan embassy in Lebanon so many times and even went there in person, but they keep telling me the same thing: they sent my application to Morocco and are still waiting for a response. I asked if there's anyone else I could contact or anything I could do to speed things up, but they basically told me there's nothing I can do except wait.

I've also contacted the conference organizers, but they said they can't interfere with visa procedures.

The problem is that my flight is literally this Sunday. I've already paid for my tickets and conference registration, and I really can't afford to lose all that money. I've also spent months working on this research, so missing the conference would honestly be heartbreaking.

I'm just wondering if anyone here has been through something similar or knows someone I could contact in Morocco? Maybe someone at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or whatever department actually handles these visa decisions?

I'm honestly desperate at this point. I don't even know if my visa will come out in time, but I really don't want to give up without trying everything I can.

Any advice would genuinely mean a lot. Thank you!!
