Thoughts on this Peladn Mini PC?

This mini seems like a good deal for $580. I wanted to share it with others and get some others’ thoughts on it.

Specs:

  • CPU: Ryzen 7 7840HS
  • RAM: 32GB DDR5 @ 5600MHz
  • Storage: 1TB NVMe SSD (fast, but only 1 M.2 slot)
  • Chassis: Metal case
  • Upgradability: Swappable Wi-Fi card, room for a 2.5" SATA drive

Downsides:

  • Mediocre I/O port selection
  • Single NVMe slot
  • New or unknown company

You’re basically paying for the 32GB DDR5 and 1TB SSD and getting the rest for free.

The layout format.. Is this specs generated by ChatGPT? It hallucinated something that isn't there.

The Amazon product listing also a mess too, inconsistent & speaking of something else wasn't there.

Nope. I just added some info that wasn't in the listing from reviews I've watched about it.

I will chime in, then.

The Mini design priciple basically is to get rid of as many stuffs possible, stay on the basic then paired it with a relatively powerful APU.

You got CPU & GPU oomph but everthing else you normally can find on a 7840HS Mini is barely here. It does reflected in price, launced a year ago at ~500USD. Currently ~600USD?

One thing I don't understand is why they opted for metal case though, it goes against the cost-saving principle. Even if they make it possible to produce easily using metal stamping & bolt. BTW metal case like this usually also mean bad WiFi.

There isn't SATA drive support BTW, I saw it now it is listed on the product information field. That section on Amazon product page usually isn't reliable for electronics, even on listing from big tech company's official product, you can easily find some obvious wrong info fields.

The model PELADN HA-4, who else doesn't put model name on product listing title?

PELADN also cannot decides on:

  • 1 years or 3 years warranty. Good luck!

  • 1x USB-C 4.0 or 2x USB4 (Even the product cleary show only single USB-C port present; Surprise! surprise! It actually has zero USB4, that USB-C was just USB 3.0 [data + video])

  • Said 1GbE Ethernet, should be 2.5G though.

32GB RAM & PCIE 4.0 1TB SSD:The PELADN HA-4 7840HS mini PC comes equipped with 32GB of lightning-fast DDR5 RAM running at 5600MHz (upgradeable to 64GB, 2 x 32GB

A great hint dropped here. Like so most Mini on the market right now. You will get single stick of DDR5 SODIMM RAM inside, immediately say goodbye to ~40% of GPU performance. There's some chance the included RAM may not even be running 5600MT/s since the info is so unrealiable.

My take is the current RAM price probably thwarted major benefits of this Mini for those who just want decent OOMPH of CPU & GPU performance. Adding the other 32GB SODIMM will cost you dearly.

You can probably pick a newer model with 24GB / 32GB LPDDR5 RAM (& without all those I/Os sacrifices on HA-4) and ended up about same price range (as 32GB HA-4 + 32GB purchased seperately).

The equation looks like this:

Good base + expensive LPDDR5(x)
Cheaper base + super expensive DDR5 + (force to add another) super expensive DDR5

Yes, you can argue about soldered but DDR5 price is more inflated LPDDR5 right now.

Doesn't make much sense to save on the 'base' only to be force into buying inflated component in order to restore balanced

Thanks for your thoughts. I agree there are a lot of mismatches in the description.

I might even be okay with a single stick of RAM. My goal is to have this as a Homelab. I can always update the machine with a better barebones next year. It's just in the right price range, and I want 32GB RAM for self-hosting. The loss from non-dual RAM could be fine for my use case until/if RAM prices ever drop.

I will check all of this once I get the PC, make sure it’s running at 5600MT/s, and check all the ports, etc.

Anyway, it doesn't ship until November 8th, so I ordered it. That will give me time to see if any better deals pop up.

Homelab will be fine. Actually can be decent choice, as long use case isn't about gaming and being force to add another stick.

BUT not the RGB /s

I've had a few of these HA4s and clones come across my kitchen table. They are about the cheapest build 7840HS mini PC I've ever seen 😞 If Peladn had spent more money on build quality and features with less on brushed aluminum and RGB. They may have had something. The quality has been so poor/ returns so high that Amazon has dropped them from Prime distribution to where they're only sold 3rd party shipping. The last one I've seen had been reduced to DDR5-4800 memory and some generic Gen3x4 NVMe SSD which performed poorly. Then again both have been a running theme with RAMpocalypse/RAMageddon 2026.

My largest complaint with Peladn/Trycoo mini PCs is trying to get a problem solved. Customer service is long and drawn out and feels very flip card/AI until it stalls. They recently extended their warranty to 3-years but if its anything like their 1-year good luck! Ultimately its risk management going into 2026. Crucial used to be a trusted brand but Micron has turned them into a study on consumer disappointment.

Peladn WO4 7640HS has two NVME M2 PCIE 4 slot and good port selection with USB4 Type C 40Gbps and DP feature, it used to come with 2X16GB RAM 5600Mhz and was sold qt competitive pricing but i cannot guaranteed that it is still the case. WO4 is the Newer Chassis compared to the HA4 Chassis, HA4 is old OEM chassis found on AliExpress with unknown brands or Firebat.

I don’t trust this company. seems they are not taking overseas marketing that seriously with all the wrong English information on their website and Amazon, after-sale support may be non-existent.
