man this sub makes me feel like we’re thr oblivious boomers now

The photo may not be real, but he does have a three year old son. So the quote maybe.

It's a real quote. Here you guys go:

https://www.nytimes.com/video/arts/100000010692517/daniel-radcliffe-every-beautiful-thing-books-tv.html

I had to actually look for it too. Every article just shows the AI image and the quote, but no one sources it.

The quote is real.

I'm almost certain that Daniel Radcliffe did, in fact, not pop out a kid!

u/MrPlace 5d ago

Na, boomers weren't up against a system creating ultra realistic images that's increasingly hard to tell apart from reality like this. I mean, they are now tough, alongside us

27

u/Molock90 5d ago

So Daniel Radcliffe isn't real?

17

u/snoogins355 5d ago

He's a wizard

5

u/zooksoup 5d ago

Nor is his kid, just an AI

1

u/TrippinTryptoFan 4d ago

He does have a son though

u/galwayygal 5d ago

AI can fool anyone. I see all the Gen Z’s out there on TikTok liking and commenting on super obvious AI posts. I think we’re more skeptical than them at least

We were told from childhood "people will lie to get their way from you" and later "don't believe everything you read on the Internet". Both true, and we're the most consistent with critical thinking of all the other currently alive generations. Not because we're so great or clever (though apparently we are the smartest generation that has ever existed, including the zoomers. The alphas and betas are literally still children) - but because we were raised to question everything. It's habit.

We were also told the Internet is forever, and I'm starting to think it's not. Data disappears, dead Internet is abounding, I've tried to find stuff I know I looked at/saw and they're now unfindable by regular people. Maybe archived somewhere, but data centres can be destroyed and boom goes the archive. Even if things in the cloud end up being forever, there's so much crap on the Internet, that it's a specific needle in a mountain range of needles kind of deal to find stuff.

I see Gen Z doing the opposite - calling everything AI, even when it’s obviously real.

3

u/galwayygal 4d ago

Interesting. I miss the time where we didn’t have to guess whether a video is fake or not

21

u/Momentarmknm 4d ago

The person you responded to said literally nothing about the picture. They just said they didn't know he had a kid. And you're like "ummm, the photo isn't real BOOMER."

4

u/ProbsNotManBearPig 4d ago

That’s the internet for ya. People suck. I had to google the old fashion way to confirm Daniel R does have a son.

10

u/babunka 5d ago

Sorry, how can you tell? Please enlighten me, I don't wanto to be oblivious boomer

1

u/Kanon_no_Uta 2d ago

Look at the corns in the bow. It's creepy. And the hat of his son was based on a photo taken by paparazzi.

8

u/Gedunk 5d ago

Macaulay Culkin said this in an interview a couple months ago, that his sons don't know he's the star of Home Alone

This is also how I found out.

52

u/Valuable-Squash-3224 5d ago

Did his partner find out this way too?

5

u/Not-An-FBI 4d ago

Rich people are having so many kids via surrogates it actually could. Amber Heard's kids are probably Elon Musk's but no one ever counts them.

u/IllustriousWelder87 5d ago

Me, too! Far out. I feel old.

If it makes you feel better, I use to tell my niece that John Oliver was real life Harry Potter. Once he change his hairdo, it destroyed the illusion.

Almost looks like Luke Wilson

Macaulay Culkin watches Home Alone with his children too. Apparently a son believes himself is Kevin, not his father IIRC. If I was Brenda Song, I would be laughing so much.

It would be really interesting to see the ah ha eureka moment when they finally realized yhe truth. You might need to hide the opening credits so it would take longer for them to notice.

u/BisexualSlutPuppy 5d ago

Eh, it's gonna take those kids a long time to learn to spell Dad's name. I've known his name for 30 some odd years and I still can't spell it.

8

u/Saramela 5d ago edited 5d ago

Pretty sure if it’s your own name you don’t need 30 years to learn how to spell it.

2

u/BisexualSlutPuppy 4d ago

Well unless he went full George Foreman when he named his kids, it's not their own name. It's their dad's legal name, but they presumably call him Dad and I think his loved ones call him Mac, and it's a lot of vowels.

u/Col0nelFlanders 5d ago

You might be giving celebrity children too much credit. I’m not sure North West knows how to spell their own name

u/relientkenny 4d ago

i wasn’t allowed to read harry potter because of my christian parents but i still read the books and watched the movies in secret. i’ll never forget when the final book came out. it was a MASSIVE worldwide phenomenon

10

u/NoCoyote5205 4d ago

I was queueing up for the midnight launches from when book 4 came out. Remember sitting up reading it all night and finishing it before the sun came up lol

8

u/SmokeOk6550 4d ago

Sounds like that religion is stupid, honestly.

u/BrandoPB 4d ago

Same here. Now the irony is JK Rowling is more like my mother than she thought.

3

u/NoBrother6430 4d ago

What kind of Christian parents?

I was brought up catholic and went to catholic school, and we read it daily at school and no one had an issue

4

u/Guilty-Spark69x 4d ago

The evangelical Protestants. Trust me, bro. Same reason my mom almost made me burn all my Pokémon cards, games, toys, books, etc. one day. I was able to persuade her to let me bury them instead, thinking maybe later I could convince her to let me have them back and dig them back up. But years later when we were about to move, I couldn’t find them. Still makes me sad to think about.

2

u/Elegant_Relief_4999 3d ago

I was brought up in a Christian household. My sister wouldn't let her kids watch HP because of the witchcraft or some shit, but LotR was totally chill. Goddamn cult mentality. I'm sure she probably got the entire series on blu ray once Rowling started slinging transphobia.

3

u/ForexGamer 4d ago

Yeah loads of Christian churches said it was of the Devil.

4

u/mrdankhimself_ 4d ago

They think everything is of the Devil except actual pedophiles.

1

u/Aromatic_Air_3480 1d ago

Baptists lol

1

u/Desperate-Lion-9347 19h ago

Some Christians thought the whole witchcraft and wizardry thing was encouraging occult devil worship. Most likely the same people who got caught up in the satanic panic over dungeons and dragons and metal music during the 80s and 90s.

Tbh Catholics are pretty chill about this kind of stuff compared to evangelicals and some other Protestant denominations.

I also read them in Catholic school and multiple copies were proudly displayed in our school library. It was really in demand and the librarian was really excited that she managed to obtain multiple sets for us.

But I also went to a day care in the summers that was run by a non-denominational church (my mom worked at the day care.) Most of the people were cool, but when I was about 10 there were several “teachers” who were very religious and got really upset when I brought a HP book to read during free time and they confiscated it.

Watching my mom cuss them out at the end of the day was like the first distinct memory I have of thinking my mom was a badass.

1

u/ZataH 4d ago

Why wasn't you allowed to read them?

2

u/relientkenny 4d ago

witchcraft

1

u/Guilty-Spark69x 4d ago

Same, but I didn’t bother sneaking around to read the books or see the movies.

Not even kidding my very first real exposure to Harry Potter was seeing the Deathly Hallows Part 1 with my college girlfriend and her friends. Good God was I lost, but they were more than happy to fill me in and were completely baffled I had never seen one of the movies or read one of the books before 😂

1

u/Pink_Slyvie 4d ago

Couldn't read them then because of the satanic panic around it, can't read them now because I'm not going to give that piece of trash any money.

0

u/relientkenny 4d ago

you can find the ebooks online for free or buy them used or borrow from your local library

u/Careful_Farmer_2879 4d ago

Hilarious how society shifted around and now it’s the extreme liberal side that hates it.

I also had conservative teachers try to ban it

Honestly, that's such a Dad move and I love it for them❤️

25

u/MrBoognish 5d ago

Same thing with Macaulay Culkin. His kids don't realize he is Kevin in Home Alone.

As an elder Millenial, I only saw Chamber of Secrets so I could see Attack of the Clones trailer. What a pleasant surprise that was leaving the theater.

I never watched them or read the books. Now I’m doing both with my kids and it’s like I’m experiencing a whole new world. It’s the best.
