I set up my lizards on a smart home controller because sometimes my work schedule makes it hard to maintain their day night cycle properly. I will put exactly 0 more things on a smart home. I hate that every time I need to do a thing in the app it gives me an ad. It's notifications have this obnoxiously different vibrate pattern specifically so I'll check them but it's always just an ad. But I can't turn it off in case something goes wrong with my lizards lighting.
I'm the IT/Tech guy in all my friend groups and family, and this resonates with me so much. I'm avoiding AI, reducing automation, losing all faith in subscriptions and 'smart' devices.
thats because techies realize how crap quality some high tech stuff is or they realize that you dont want a wifi toaster because if your internet is down you cant make toast.
same with anything that requires a app and has zero physical controls

Same! At 42 and after 20 years as a software dev I’m now a massage therapist because f tech really… it is because of ai yes and losing work so I’m bitter haha but also it went from a nerd field to a nepo bro culture who think they are bigger than what they are both in their position and pants.
