Got bit by the tism and have digging into the earliest SureFire SOCOM FH556RC 4 prongs and noticed a variation that doesn’t seem to get much attention. Attached are photos of earliest documented 4 prong logo, 12/2012 dated updated logo 4 prong, and a way back capture of the first Socom mount design with the old logo.
The earliest SOCOM mount examples feature SureFire’s original logo, while later ones have the updated block style logo. I’ve found “new” logo examples dated as early as 12/2012, so I’m trying to narrow down when that transition occurred, as it’s looking like it was only a handful of months (certainly less than a year) the old logo versions existed.
Some interesting history I uncovered:
- SureFire won the SOCOM suppressor contract in September 2011, but the familiar SOCOM mounting interface we know today was actually redesigned after the contract award.
- In May 2012, SureFire’s Don Alexander confirmed that the mounting system had undergone engineering changes, replacing the earlier interface with the current tab/notch design. SureFire also filed a patent covering the redesigned system in January 2012.
- I also found a November 2012 Wayback Machine capture showing an original logo SOCOM muzzle brake on SureFire’s website. Interestingly, I couldn’t find the SOCOM 4 prong listed, likely due to it being contract only at the time.
This suggests the original logo FH556RC represents an extremely short lived initial variation.
Mainly curious if anyone here has a new logo FH556RC dated package earlier than 12/2012, or an original logo example with documented dates?
I contacted SureFire directly, but they sadly wouldn’t/couldn’t confirm the exact production dates or logo transition. Just trying to piece together some obscure history.
