What Would You Have Written as an Epilogue for your Favorite Episode?

I often wonder what happens after Barnaby solves a case. Take "Vixen's Run," for instance. What happens in that house after they discover that neither child was Sir Freddy's and that the bookshop girl was Teddy's?

Another one: What happens in "Written in Blood"? In the book, the pervy teacher (quite well played) found all of his crap on the front porch, and the locks were changed.

This is a fun group. Let's hear some "post-mortems" or "Whatever Happened to..."

Potentially scandalous 1st season

Re-starting MM after many many years and am struck by how the first few episodes really go there with the taboo tropes(by 90s standards at least and for a tv mystery show): Incest, pedo activity in the present, CSA in the past, out gay and bi characters. Curious what if any reaction this first season garnered in UK.

Which Barnaby would you choose?

I thought it would be fun to see which Barnaby people would choose such as:
Who would you rather be a sargeant for?
Who would you rather be married to, not based on looks but who is the better partner?
Who would you rather investigate your murder?
Who would you rather interrogate you as a suspect?

Don’t have to answer all of them or maybe there is something I missed that you’d choose one over the other for, just love to see people’s opinions on them 🙂

S25, Ep 3 - Death Strikes Three Thoughts?

I know there are a lot of episodes when it seems like a chore to find a decent human being and this one is on my mind because I just watched it... So, no spoilers, but the parents! I kept waiting for them to get their comeuppance, so to speak, only to see at the end that they were aware that they were sorry examples of human beings, especially the father. And they did pay a high price in the end.

Most horrible person to survive a Midsomer Murders episode? My bet is Ian Eastman from “Deaths Shadow”. Is cheating on his wife, is a predatory estate agent liar and concealing a crime.

Tom Barnaby episodes that are lesser known but punch above their weight? For me, it is Picture of Innocence. It isn’t often ranked with the classics such as Ghosts of Christmas Past. However, its plot about technological clashes with tradition is probably more relevant than ever.

Anyone know what song is playing in the background during the bar scene in The Christmas Haunting. Something like “Merry Christmas everyone”.

Barnaby’s Office

On my 115th rewatch (might be a bit exaggerated buts it’s good show), and I am always confused as to why Barnaby never had a set office. Whenever they were shown at the station he never seems to have the same office situation.

I have never understood why Det. Poulsen seems to get annoyed/upset when Sarah Barnaby walks up and introduces herself while she’s talking to John and Winters. Any insights??

Secrets and Spies!

One of my favorites. “It were written weren’t it? The Midsomer Chronicles… It were the beast!”

And then Jones, turning down the good looking museum lady O.o

and that scene towards the end with Jimmy “ looking as shifty as ever” 😆

Had to correct some spelling

Cully’s boyfriends

Is it just me or did Cully not really have any chemistry with Nico, Simon or any of the other potential candidates?
I don’t blame the actors themselves, as perhaps they were directed in a way to not overshadow the main plot.
Thoughts?

What happens afterwards? Spoiler

I’m often wonder what happens to some of these characters after the episode is over. We don’t usually hear much, if anything, about characters after the crime is solved.

I guess in death of a stranger, Kate gets a rude awakening bc she won’t inheriting even though her husband died, because he wasn’t the legitimate heir. I didn’t like her at all, she was a huge jerk, using her baby as a shield and a bargaining tool and all, but I feel sorry for the baby.

And in beyond the grave, why does Charles seem so certain he won’t be in legal hot water after he was initially caught? It would certainly be a crime in the USA to drug your sister in law. Maybe it’s not a crime in England? Sure, he does get punished bc Barbary proves he murdered the old guy, but every time I rewatch that episode I wonder about that.

My life is so boring that I wonder about stuff like that, lol.

After season 27...

There isn't news that Neil and/or Nick are leaving, so I expect them to stay on for season 27 at the end of 2027 also.

That will mean that Neill had 13 seasons as the lead character, and Nick 9 seasons as the DS.

That's a lot. Tom had the "pilot" episode and the first 13 seasons until he left.

It would be cool, if they revitalize the show after that. We need a big change because the show became something else around seasons 17 and 18. It's fun to watch while you're iron your clothes, but that's it.

I hope an old DS or Sgt. comes back to pick up the mantle as the new lead for the show, like a Ben Jones or even Troy... if not someone completely new and not a Barnaby. And a female DS/sgt. would also be interesting for once.

Or do you think the show should end with Neill?

Sarcasm

I've just started watching this programme - I've only seen the first two.

I love the settings and the assortments of characters. But I can't get over Barnaby's ill-mannered attitude towards Troy. He's unnecessarily rude and sarcastic to a colleague he's working with, of lower rank. Troy doesn't deserve this! What's going on here?

Blood Wedding Spoiler

this is my most hated episode so far and I’m sad because it’s Cully’s wedding so I thought it’d be great. But the Fitzroy family are all bullies - Beth the bride who seems so sweet on her wedding day is such a shrewd wee madam. And while I didn’t feel too bad for Marina, I do think the second and third victims didn’t deserve to die. I felt especially bad for Robin because in the flashback even as a baby nobody wanted him, and it wasn’t his fault that he was born out of wedlock. and then hes murdered basically because of how he was born. It’s also wildly ironic that Fitzroy was the last name all of Henry VIII’s bastards got, so that entire high and mighty family likely descended from not so holy origins in the first place. this particular plot just felt like it had a lot of sadness without the comedic relief other episodes carry. The only silver lining was Jones’ little storyline. Looking forward to everyone’s thoughts on this one.

Watching Birds of Prey.

Ive watched this episode many times. The part I dont understand is Eddie Darwin terrorized the sisters.

Why was he allowed to boss them around and take there money?

Why couldn't they throw him out?

Is there anyone who can enlighten me?

The other episode I dont understand is The House in the Woods.

Charlie the evil brother wants the house sold as soon as possible.

When the youg couple look at the house to possibly buy it, he strangles them!

Isn't that defeating the purpose?
