PSA for anyone trying to get on in the Permian: check these 3 things before you apply anywhere

I work in the field and deal with a lot of hiring out here. Every company sets its own minimums, and when a hand doesn't make the cut it's usually one of these 3.

1. Where you live

Plenty of outfits only hire guys who already live within an hour or so of the yard. If a seat says local only and there's no housing, an out of state app goes nowhere no matter how good you are. Coming from out of state? Go after the seats that list housing or say they'll take a hand who moves there. Read the whole listing before you pack.

2. Your CDL

Read that line close. Class A vs B matters. Trucking outfits usually want 2 or 3 years on your CDL, and that number comes from their insurance, so calling the office won't change it. Crude seats mostly want tanker and hazmat. And an automatic restriction knocks you out of a lot of seats since most of the trucks out here are manuals.

3. Experience minimums

If a rig seat says 6 months or 1 year, they mean it. On a lot of locations the operator caps how many short service hands a crew can carry, so even a crew that likes you might not have room for another green hand.

Green isn't hopeless though. There's still seats that take no experience... floorhand, roustabout, flowback trainee, yard and shop work. The pay's lower to start, but that's how most hands get in. Apply to what you actually fit and your odds go way up.

Got questions about any of the basins or seats? Ask below.

Sidearm Sight Replacement in Midland

I do most of my own work, but I've never swapped pistol sights before, and I don't have the tools. Turns out the proper tools for that job are not exactly the cheapest thing on earth either. I'm curious if anyone knows a good shop with reasonable prices that could do that for me in Midland. I'm wanting to swap my APX A1 Tactical blacked out suppressor height sights for the Beretta night sights of the same design. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thank you in advance

Which gas stations in Midland have functioning def pumps currently?

The couple of spots I have checked out (Murphy on Andrews Hwy/ Kent Kwik at Big Spring & Scharbauer) have been out of order.

Met a really cute waitress at Cork & Pig Tavern in Odessa. Need some advice!

So I went to Cork & Pig Tavern in Odessa last night for dinner with some colleagues.
Our waitress was really cute, and I honestly wanted to ask her out, but I didn’t get the chance. By the time I thought about it seriously, I’d already left, and the restaurant was closed.
I don’t know whether she was just being friendly because it’s her job or whether there might have been something there.
I’m relatively new to Odessa(like super new- moved here 1 month ago) so I’m wondering what you guys would do in this situation.
Would it be weird to go back another day and ask her out? Or is there a better way to approach this without making things awkward for her?
Genuinely looking for advice!

Just an FYI for this election cycle

I am the only active mod here, and like most of yall I work out in BFE a lot so I dont catch everything right away.

I know its gonna get testy in here over the next couple weeks, and while I am able to delete threads I dont have full permissions and can’t actually select deletion reasons. So if your thread gets deleted, its nothing personal, just the shit slinging in the comments got too out of hand.

I pretty much only ever delete drug posts and personal ads, I try and let people talk here but please be a good neighbor.

Scam Heads Up

Just wanting to give everyone a heads up on a new scam going around. I received an email 2 hours ago that looked exactly like a refund notice from my credit card company. It was for a 10 cent refund from WalMart that I had not initiated. Some of the links in the email appeared legit & some not so legit. I contacted WalMart headquarters & they said they had not initiated a refund on my account. I logged into my credit card account & the refund was not listed there. So I contacted my credit card, verified that the email address it came from was not theirs, & gave them details so they could let their customers know about this new scam.

So, if any of you get an unexpected notification like this, please be very wary & check it out. DO NOT click on any of the links in the notification.
