Future Static, As Everything Unfolds, Taranis, Luther, Ithaca, Vana, Rolo Tomassi, Conquer Divide, Future Palace, Point Mort for some more and diverse female fronted options.
Yeah I'm super excited for the next album whenever it comes.
Really glad I started adding any songs reccommended to me in my home feed to a playlist, I never would have found this band since I've been looking for bands like Loathe 😂
Bad Exchanges is the heavy one, Labyrinth is the breakout one, Make it Out is the catchy fan-favourite, Rip is the masterpiece, Shallow Grave is the underrated one, and Paradigm is the pretty closer.
I saw a post about that too but it looked like the consensus was "Probably not" since there was a social media post from her specifically calling out ICE & Republican politics
Ngl, if ties to a political party is getting content banned, that seems to defeat the spirit of.. well .. a lot of things. I'm all for a good echo chamber, but loose ties?
I'm all for getting rid of bigots. But Addison hasn't shown any sign of being one. And even if she actually was a member of a GOP board, I wouldn't put it past her to have changed. Some of her songs give a negative view of religion.
People have said that she used to make posts that leaned right within the last few years. Which checks; she grew up in a conservative household and is young. People change though. I also was also brought up uber conservative and did a lot of growing up in my early 20s after being exposed to the real world.
During one of her opening performances with President, she spoke pretty progressive. That along with her recent stories on IG, it feels like she's genuinely accepting to beliefs.
Even if she did have different views in the past like that one user previously said, she appears to have changed which is reasonable for anyone in their 20s.
Yeah her being on a GOP board in college doesn't mean much imo. I was conservative and a regular at the collegiate ministry when I started college. I was progressive and agnostic by the time I left lol
Yeah I'm pretty sure she's said her music is about growing up conservative and Christian and how much it made her wanna kill herself. So she definitely doesn't seem to have the same views she did when she was younger.
That first linked screenshot is literally from 310 weeks ago at the time it was taken💀 are we just cancelling people for how they grew up now? Her views have very clearly changed if you would have actually made an effort to look...
Edit: also the image on the tablet doesn't even line up with the comparison. Go take your tinfoil hat off.
decent band. i don't think she's an industry plant like a lot of people say because contrary to popular belief, she didn't just pop up out of nowhere. i remember seeing several of her vocal covers online over the past few years
that being said, the music isn't anything too special imo. surprisingly i'm not hating the Zakk Cervini mix on the album, but again, it's pretty generic
I just like the screams man. To me she’s got an interesting style. It’s a fun listen I really don’t need any more than that out of music. Sometimes people focus too much on the drama. I’m just here for the music man.
An audience built from covering other's songs doesn't magically translate into an established fanbase for original music. What I think people mean by "plant" is that projects like Showing Teeth are getting access to top-tier producers, major tours, and massive promotional resources before they've even proven they can make an album let-alone draw an audience independently.
There seems to be significant label/private-equity investment right now into converting influencer followings into commercially packageable bands to capitalize on the growing alt/metal market.
Projects like: Showing Teeth, Deadlands, Cenobia, Shyeye, PRESIDENTS, etc seem to be good examples of this popping up out of nowhere in the past 2 years. I feel like people are being pretty disengenous when the act like they don't get why people are calling them "plants". Maybe it's not the right word to use here but there's something very forced & inauthentic about them which people are trying to express.
Yeah, i thibk plant has too big of a negative connotation, most of these examples did at least put in some work with their content creation to build that following before they got scooped up. Especially Showing Teeth. Just because they get an insane record deal doesnt make them plants by default.
Plant is the wrong term for it but definitely an example of “influencer” personalities being used to access opportunities and audiences. A band sounding the same, with a similar release history yet lacking the online presence would not see the same level of discussion nor hype
to be clear, just because i don't think she's an industry plant doesn't mean i think she deserved to be signed to a major label since she's just now releasing original music. i do find that a little messed up, but i digress
A label signs you if they think you can make them money. It’s not uncommon to be signed before the first LP. Talking about someone “deserving” to be signed seems weird to me.
I hear you, but while we’re on the topic of industry plants; in general, I never really understood pointing out if someone might be an industry plant because like if you end up being right about that… then is it just like an ‘I told you so’ moment and that’s it?
it's not something i put much stock into most of the time, but i kind of get it. i think a lot of it has to do with protecting the scene in a world where everything is becoming increasingly commercialized. when you have bands who pop up out of nowhere and are instantly touring with the biggest bands and getting great record deals, it's a bit of a slap in the face to bands who have been working their asses off for years to get to where they are
think of bands like Knocked Loose, Boundaries, 156/Silence. they're some of the bigger names in metalcore right now and they've all been at it for like 10+ years, much of the time touring non-stop. if industry plant bands start popping up and immediately getting pushed by a major labels because they think they'll be good for business, rather than the bands who have actively been working for it, then that takes the authenticity out of metalcore and just turns it into another commodity
overall i think it's not as big of an issue as some make it out to be, but i get why people call out industry plants. it's also similar to the AI music boom in some ways
It's all gotten a bit bastardised in metalcore because it's strayed so far from hardcore culturally and ethically, but DIY ethos, paying your dues and learning your craft actually are important in making authentic, worthwhile music. We should be supporting the bands that put in the work, not ones that get parachuted into a scene and given a leg up by big labels solely looking to extract value from a scene they've not helped build.
Industry plant tends to get thrown around a lot, not always correctly, but it's basically people questioning the bona fides and cultural fit of an artist. Raising a flag that they're a conduit for corporate gentrification of a genre in which that should be antithetical.
Also, "industry plant", while I do use the term plenty, is just another way of saying "they know a guy". If you start digging it's wild how many entertainers have a connection to someone famous. Becuase hey guess what, entertainment is hard to break into, and having family, friends, or coworkers who can help get you your next gig is just how things work. I joked for a while that Sabrina Carpenter was an industry plant, becuase, duh. And then I learned that the voice actress for Bart Simpson is her aunt. I don't know how much that helped her, but I doubt it was nothing. It just funny that we reserve the term for entertainers, meanwhile getting a regular job through a connection is just called networking (unless it's family then we're in nepotism territory).
I think she had some favors done for her that most others wouldn't get just because she's pretty. However, it's genuinely a good first project and she isn't being carried by anyone else.
Label put so much money in here. She is just evetywhere. Kerrang cover, nik nocturnal podcast, all instagram is full of her. Damn. Yesterday i watched horror movie V/H/S mixtape. And at the end of yhe movie played her song Hellraiser. Very aggressive marketing. But i like some songs.
People keep saying she's an industry plant as if she didn't have a large following when she just did covers. She just changed her username on Instagram and everyone now forgot that she was known before her original music.
You dont have to like it but come that doesnt mean everyone you dislike is an industry plant
Besides, why would anyone with money and connections "plant" someone playing this music? 99% of the scene has to make their money off side hustles and other jobs.
One of my favorites to hear is Spiritbox as an industry plant. Courtney and Mike have been in the industry for 15 years, so must've been a shitty job planting them if they only recently got popular and got to quit their office jobs
My biggest issue with this artist is how bland and sanitised everything is. There are so many female/femme fronted bands making more interesting music but getting a fraction of the attention. It's not everything and it doesn't always correlate to people showing out and buying tickets when it matters, but compare the listeners Showing Teeth has to Rolo Tomassi, Heriot or even Dying Wish. Mental.
I think a lot of people enjoy Showing Teeth because of her damn good cleans / transition from cleans to the abruptness of her screams.
I listened to the groups you listed - Rolo Tomassi wasn't for me, Heriot was dope - and really enjoyed some Dying Wish songs. Yet... I'd personally find myself going back to Showing Teeth vs the others. Personal tastes and such, yeah?
*I am a bot. If you'd like to receive a weekly recap of r/metalcore with the top posts and their alternative links, send me a message with the subject 'metalcore'
The bass player in her live band Jacob Umansky was who I learned about this from from. Instantly I was obsessed. I want her to succeed and piss off all the people who think she's a plant. It's going to happen.
There's certainly a lot of people bitter/upset purely because artists they enjoy are not more popular than someone they dislike with more regency that has blown up quite a bit. It's too bad because that mindset certainly doesn't help the scene grow or lift up the ones they follow. It's not enough for some people to dislike certain music and move on.
I found these guys when this song was my alarm for a week, I have my morning alarm use my Discover Weekly. I like them and even got a hat. I can't imagine these guys being a 'plant' and previously held views shouldn't define an entire band. Although it would make it awkward considering the pins on my hat.
Even ignoring the Republican political ties and being an obvious industry plant, I don't understand the hype this "band" is getting. The songs are boring and I don't think her vocals sound good
The "Republican political ties" people love to bring up but neglect the the fact it was all in her early 20s and she doesn't seem to hold the same opinions any more. She even stated on her latest tour this was all due to growing up in a conservative Christian household in a deepy red state which taught her to believe a certain way. Post like these don't exactly scream conservative. Almost like people can change
This is weird. I was initially very inclined to agree with you, going from conservative to progressive within 4 years while being in your early 20s when having been raised conservative seems very possible. But her narrative doesn't make sense when she herself claimed she "used to be as far left as you can imagine". If she was raised so strictly conservative and that was the whole reason she was conservative, how does that add up? Bouncing from very "far left" to being a politically involved conservative back to progressive within a couple years seems a lot more unlikely as a trajectory.
With how batshit the last four years have been and this admin, it is pretty easy for someone to no longer be part of that party. Plenty of lifelong republicans hate where the party went.
The "far left" comment could be all a lie to try and add to her story at the time, there are loads of far right influencers who claimed to have be "super left but realized their mistake" as a tactic. It could also be the truth, who actually knows
This is all obviously operating under it being even the same person. In reality, she could still hold some conservative values for sure, but to act like she is some MAGA super PAC today like some people in the sub do over years old post is just a little disingenious imo.
You’re right that people can change, but they don’t always do it for the right reasons. Her activism feels very grifty and insincere. It’s a rather swift pivot from being on a republican college board within the 2020s. I’ve yet to find anything about her addressing her position on that board, and it’s really influencing my view of her.
I was a registered Republican 10 years ago. I believe in liberty and justice for all. Once upon a time I thought that was the path. I was wrong and I've grown and changed. I don't hold people accountable for past beliefs if they've evolved because I get it.
She was in leadership of the "young Republicans club" at her college (several posts & a picture of her with Mitch McConnell...). Also her deleted reddit account was shaming women for getting abortions and things like that. This entire thread is very clearly botted with whatever PR firm her label is paying to whitewash her image.
Oh yeah, sure. A life long conservative with wealthy parents gave it all up to make catchy mainstream rock (which is a fine) and definitely doesn't just say she gave it up because her/the band major label execs know that shit doesn't fly in the scene. Sure sure

I really like this girl’s music. She can scream so good.
