Georgia nursing home Medicaid: rental income when the community spouse lives in one unit of the building

General question about Georgia nursing-home Medicaid (ABD), for caseworkers or anyone who has seen this handled.

Assume rental income is evaluated under PAMMS 2410. The property is a two-unit residential building. The community spouse lives in one unit rent-free; the other unit is rented. Otherwise allowable expenses (mortgage interest, property tax, insurance, without counting taxes or insurance twice when paid through escrow) cover the whole building.

I do not see an explicit allocation formula for this situation in 2410. It limits deductions to costs needed to produce rental income and refers uncertain expenses to IRS Publication 527.

  1. Does DFCS apply Publication 527’s rental/personal-use allocation here, or deduct the full building expenses from the one unit’s rent?
  2. If allocation is required, what method determines the rented share (per unit, square footage, something else)?
  3. Does a property-tax record describing two residential units affect that analysis?

Please link any applicable Georgia policy, memo or published fair-hearing decision.

Medicaid. Accidental hiding off assets (brain injury)

Hello! My sister had a traumatic brain injury June 2024. She received ALTCS which is Arizona’s long term care Medicaid. She was in rehab and then moved to a care home July 2024 and has lived there since. She has serious memory and confusion issues.

This month she found out about an Acorn account with 2,700 in it. She must have had this account since before her accident and completely forgot about it until receiving an email from Acorn. She moved the money to a chime account and now only has 900.

We told her ALTCS case manager about it today. Haven’t received a response. I’m worried sick she will be kicked off ALTCS and kicked out of her care home for technically being over the 2,000 asset limit for eligibility.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Does anyone know what ALTCS will do? I don’t have a lot of money and can’t hire a lawyer for her.

I am in VA and with all these Medicaid changes coming up, I'm curious what persons have qualified for the "medically complex" conditions? Is it just a form your primary care has to sign, or, a specialist doctor?

Ohio Medicaid renewal pending — how can I get presumptive eligibility or avoid a gap in coverage?

Hi everyone! I'm in Ohio, and I'm hoping someone who has been through a similar situation can give me some advice.

My Medicaid coverage is scheduled to end in a few days. Unfortunately, I submitted my renewal after the deadline, and I'm worried about losing my health insurance before my renewal is processed.

I have several medical appointments coming up because of ongoing health issues, so I'm really concerned about how I'll afford my care if there's a gap in coverage.

I've tried contacting Ohio Medicaid and Cuyahoga County Job and Family Services, but I keep getting redirected between phone menus without getting a clear answer. I also contacted MetroHealth about financial assistance, but they told me I would generally need to be denied Medicaid first.

I'm trying to understand what options I have before my coverage ends.

  • Can I apply for presumptive eligibility in Ohio while my Medicaid renewal is pending?
  • If my Medicaid expires before my renewal is processed, can my coverage be reinstated or backdated to cover medical appointments during the gap?
  • Is there a specific office or phone number I should contact to get help with my case?
  • Has anyone in Ohio submitted their renewal late and managed to avoid a gap in coverage? What steps did you take?

I'd really appreciate any advice, especially from people who have dealt with Ohio Medicaid or Cuyahoga County JFS. Thank you so much!

Has anyone gotten screened for CityFHEPS after being approved for cash assistance, SNAP, and Medicaid?

I recently got approved for cash assistance, food stamps, and Medicaid, and I’m trying to figure out the next steps for getting screened for CityFHEPS. Has anyone gone in person to HRA or Homebase and requested a screening after getting approved for benefits? What was the process like, what documents did you need, and how long did it take? I’ve heard that having an active cash assistance case can help you qualify for housing assistance, but I’m unsure how that actually works. Does receiving these benefits affect eligibility, or are there separate requirements? I’m currently staying with someone but have been told I need to leave. Can I get screened in this situation, before entering a shelter? I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who has gone through the process, especially where you went and what helped you get started. Can I Reapply for SNAP and Health Insurance After Missing the Deadlines? PA

I went to the DHS office to apply for health insurance and SNAP (food stamps), but the caseworker I dealt with wasn’t the easiest to work with. I already struggle with pretty bad anxiety, and the whole process became overwhelming for me.
I had some additional paperwork to complete regarding my rent and who lives in my household. I wasn’t able to get everything submitted in time, and I eventually received what I believe was a fair hearing notice. Unfortunately, I got overwhelmed by that process, too, and never followed through with it.
Now, the original deadlines for both SNAP and health insurance have passed, as well as the extended deadlines.
My question is: Can I go back to the DHS office and start the application process over from scratch? Would I be able to fill out all the paperwork again and request a different caseworker?
I know I should have handled things sooner, but my anxiety really got the best of me, and now I’m trying to figure out what my options are.
Has anyone been in a similar situation or gone through this process? I’d really appreciate any advice or insight. Thank you!

Getting opinions on if I qualify for pregnancy Medicaid in Texas

My husband’s salary is $83,000. We are a family of 6 (including my unborn baby.) I am getting mixed messages online if I qualify for pregnancy Medicaid. I see that a family of 6 has an income limit of $7321 monthly income, which we make about $400 less than that a month. I do have insurance through my husband’s work but it is very expensive. I figured I would ask here to see if it’s worth trying to apply.

Thank you!

Caplyta? How can I get Medicaid to approve this? Ohio

My husband is currently taking this. It has been the only medicine that works for him. And he is on 2 days left of his samples. It is quite literally an emergency. Three months ago my mom passed away, we lost the house we were living in. He lost his job. And now, three months after all of this after things were getting better his dad is admitted to the hospital having multiple strokes/ heart attack and swelling on the brain. We more than likely are going to lose him and my husband will not make it through this without his mood stabilizer. I am absolutely panicking. We don’t have $1700 a month. What can I do????

(CA Medi-Cal) How does the income reporting work?? I'm so lost.

I'll try to keep this short: I've never been anywhere near the income to be disqualified for Medi-Cal before. I'm going, this month, from being unemployed to full-time employed. So, I'll go from disqualified for one reason (next year, that is) to disqualified for another.

Will I have any grace period or will I lose it January 1st?
How often do I need to report my income?
Do I need to ask my employers to preemptively cut my hours?
Or is there some kind of legal loophole here?

I'm really lost; this job is barely above minimum wage, I can't afford insurance and I really can't afford to lose my insurance (it's been a literal lifesaver for me).

I'm a single adult, not pregnant, not a dependent, or have dependents. Let me know if there's any other pertinent information I should provide.

HELP (PA)

I have been trying to do my medicaid renewal for a few nights in a row now but I cannot get past this screen online. It’s the one where you input your county, case #, medicaid renewal due date and SSN. It tells me “Oops! Something went wrong.
The information you entered does not match any individual in our records.” but everything is correct and my benefits are still active. I’m freaking out

Denied Medicaid due to exceeding income limit

In NC. Just was added to my guardians insurance, sign the proof of income letter, waited and now I am reading that I was denied Medicaid due to having exceeded the income limit. Don’t know how else I’m going to get insurance. My current job doesn’t offer that many benefits as it is so I am sort of at loss. I only make $17 and hour and I didn’t plan to stay at that job for long. What can I do or how can I get access to health insurance??

Retroactive Medicaid coverage for hospital bills?

My mother in law suffered a serious stroke at the beginning of April where she lost the function of the limbs on the left side. We applied for Medicaid at the end of May - early June and was medicaid pending until just now when we finally got notified of her approval.

Getting approved for Medicaid has been exciting news as she has been at a nursing facility under Medicaid pending status.

We want to circle back to her medical bills relating to the stroke which covers the hospital stay, acute rehab stay, and the skilled nursing stay. We were advised to hold off paying the hospital bills until we got a decision on her Medicaid application.

Now that she's got the approval, whats the next step to retroactively apply Medicaid benefits for her stroke related medical bills? Do we just contact the hospital/facility billing department and inform them of my mother in laws Medicaid approval status?

Edit: forgot to mention that we are in the state of Texas.

Ohio Medicaid: Age 62 on Social Security

Asking for a friend who had open heart surgery, followed by a stroke that left him speech impaired. He is single and took early Social Security retirement this year. (He had applied for disability but was denied and has filed an appeal.) His early retirement Social Security benefit is very modest. But will it count toward the $580 monthly income for “community engagement,” so he can still qualify for Medicaid in 2027? The Ohio website and materials all seem to imply that the only income that qualifies for this purpose is work income. There is no clear definition provided for “monthly income” in this context. Has anyone received clarification on this?

So which month am I probably losing my medi-cal?

I most likely will not be able to meet the work requirements and it says they go into effect in California in March of 2027. I am on birth control for medical reasons that my medi-cal fully covers. I am not even sexually active. It is purely for medical reasons. My natural period symptoms are so severe they are life threatening so I have to suppress them with birth control. If I go off it I will get severely sick again and I can die next time. I cannot afford to pay for it out of pocket. I am aware that programs exist to lower the price but even at a discounted rate I still cannot afford it. So without this medi-cal coverage my life is at risk. All I am doing is trying to figure out a way to delay this risk.

Currently I am on the depo shot I get it every 3 months and am getting my next one soon. So then my next one after this one would be due in January. And then my next in April. And then my next and last shot in July. in 2027. I was planning to switch after July 2027 to the implant to not be on it for over 2 years because of the permenant bone loss and brain tumor risks associated with long term depo use. I wanted to stretch it out and stay on it as long as I could because I really like depo so far. Haven't had any bad side effects.

but I am not sure now if I can because now I am not sure when my medi-cal coverage ends. My renewal was July. I got renewed for another year. Now I've gotten the letter about what's taking effect in March.

So, am I losing my medi-cal immediately in March of 2027? Or am I keeping it until my renewal period and not getting renewed in July of 2027?

Because I don't know whether I can stay on depo and make the switch until July 2027 or if I need to switch to the implant in January so that I'm able to stay on birth control. The implant works for like 3 years instead of months, so if I get the implant I won't have to worry about dying from losing birth control for years even after in the event that I lose my medi-cal. And in that time I don't know what will happen, so who knows, maybe I can figure something else out. But I am not going to be able to meet the requirements nor be able to afford private insurance or any doctor fees like copays at any point in the foreseeable future

But I'm confused because I don't know if I'm likely losing it in March or in July. I don't know when to switch to the implant because I don't know when I'm losing it.
