Social South Asian/Arabs saying the n-word at this school
Why do so many people from these groups at this school feel comfortable saying the n-word? I’m black and numerous times I’ve sat in the Hub or Thode and hear another guy saying it? I’d turn to look at them, and they pretend they didn’t see me and miraculously stop. So clearly they’re scared and know it’s wrong, but still say it regardless? I’m not so offended by it that I’m going to cry or anything, but damn, you’re literally saying a slur and any surface level research would show how offensive it is to say if you’re not black. They say the word more than ME and they just spam it in conversations when they could say “dude” etc. And for many of them, this literally goes against their religion? You can say it’s “just a word”, but if that were the case, then people wouldn’t be mad at you saying it. You’d also think that someone smart enough to attend McMaster is smart enough not to say slurs, but I guess not. At first, I thought it was meaningless. I’m here to learn, not argue with people over saying slurs yk? But at this point, I'll have to start confronting these people and becoming the change I want to see. Anyways, that's my little rant.
