AM I MISTYPED INTJ, or something else?
galleryHi Reddit, first time posting but I’ve been into MBTI for years now, and have always identified as an INTJ, but I’ve never been 100% certain on it. My test results are always very close together, and always Ne/Ni > Ti/Te/Fi > Fe/Se/Si. I’ve attached a few different ones I’ve done (their decisions in order were ENFP, INTJ, ENTP and INTP), and also added up my results from each for an overview.
I’ve always been pretty rubbish at understanding how I come off to others, so I’d appreciate a bit of input! Here’s some of the questions from the list…
• Give a general description of yourself. How old are you?
23F from the UK! I find it so hard to describe myself haha but I’m an artist and writer, and I’m very into anything unusual, mysterious and creepy. I would generally consider myself alternative. I’m an animal lover and equestrian too, and I’m definitely better with animals than people. I think the most typical impression I give people is “odd, but nice enough”.
• What do you do as a job or as a career (if you have one)? Do you like it? Why or why not?
I recently got made redundant but I worked in business admin / support / PA sort of thing. I didn’t dislike it, I actually quite enjoyed the work itself and won a company award after a year but it wasn’t until I got made redundant that I realised it drained the life out of me. I don’t think I’m very suited to office environments, I can’t be asked with office politics and having to keep up a friendly corporate persona was soul destroying to the point where I felt like I didn’t know who I really was anymore. Previously, I worked in a tattoo studio which was great fun and very interesting but again, I didn’t quite fit in with the people there.
Having some time unemployed to actually be myself again and realising how different I am outside of strict environments is what’s prompted me to write all this!
• Describe your childhood/upbringing.
My childhood was pretty good really, my mum is lovely, and my dad’s… an ESTJ lmao. As a kid, I always had friends but was never “popular”, I got on with everyone but was always somewhere inbetween. I’ve always been socially competent but content to be alone, and usually had close friend groups of 2-4.
I loved art and writing as a kid and still do, I’d come up with whole universes, design all the characters and write and illustrate short stories about them (aged 6 onwards). I would start so many I didn’t often finish them but always had fun with them. I would also get incredibly frustrated if things weren’t perfect or if I wasn’t good at something.
I was always top of my class at school but lazy. Homework was always done but always last minute, and I would always finish my work as quickly as possible so I could sit and draw the rest of the lesson. I don’t think I’ve ever revised for an exam beyond skimming through a borrowed textbook half an hour before it.
• Do you have any mental or physical health issues that might affect how think or choose to live?
My general mental health as a teenager was… rough, but I’m doing fine now. Undiagnosed but I would not be surprised if I had ADHD or autism. Or both. Worth noting I first typed myself as a teenager as INTJ, but I was very unhealthy at the time hence why I’m unsure if it was a mistype.
• How curious are you? What are your curiosities about?
I’m incredibly curious (and just straight up nosey sometimes haha), I love to know things and I’m that friend who has a strange fact to share regardless of the situation, and I have no idea where or when I learnt said fact. I’m particularly interested in unsolved mysteries, paranormal events (even if I’m not exactly sold on ghosts, I just think it’s fun to consider what these things could be caused by), animals/nature, science.
• Would you enjoy taking on a leadership position? Do you think you would be good at it?
I’ll only lead if no one else will. I’m more of a second in command type. I’m okay at it, but I’m definitely no Te dom. I’d hate an actual leadership position as a job.
• Are you artistic? If yes, describe your art?
I am! Probably a useful point is that whilst I am very creative in a literary sense, I’m not really in a visual or emotive one. I can come up with endless story plots and narratives, but my art only ever takes inspiration from my writing, or cool things I’ve seen and been inspired by aesthetically. I never draw from my feelings or personal experiences, I love art that does and I’ve tried but it just doesn’t work for me. I’m far better at putting those sorts of things into words than images.
• How do you act when others request your help to do something (anything)? If you would decide to help them, why would you do so?
I am generally helpful if I have the capacity for it, or if someone’s doing something so badly it’s annoying me enough that I’d rather do it myself haha. I genuinely don’t mind doing small favours or things I actually find interesting myself, but it’ll have to be someone very special for me to help with something boring or that eats a large chunk of my time.
I will go out of my way to help animals, though. I’m the person that’ll catch injured pigeons and loose dogs, feed the birds and hedgehogs, and move roadkill and dead or dying animals out of the way.
• How important is efficiency and productivity to you?
It depends on what I’m doing, but I prefer not to take excessively long amounts of time on things so I don’t get bored. I will admit I’m quite lazy, it takes me ages to get going with something, but once I start, I will do a good job and I’ll get it done quickly.
And just some general bits you mind find helpful…
I’m very intuitive to the point it freaks people out. I can read someone from quite literally the first time I make eye contact and have had some very strong and very accurate gut reactions. I can read tarot cards and whilst I am naturally quite sceptical, they’ve also never been wrong for me so I’m inclined to trust them. My pattern recognition abilities are also very good.
I can be wildly inconsistent with things. All of my drawers are organised with dividers and all of my stuff has a home, but I will also just leave a pile of washing sat on the side for three days instead of putting it away. People also seem to get very different impressions of me, some think I’m funny, bubbly and chatty, others find me quiet, awkward and off putting. Everyone thinks I’m a bit strange though and that’s fair haha.
I’m quite minimalistic, I don’t like having stuff everywhere or owning several of the same thing and I hate people buying me presents. I like fashion but I only have a small wardrobe and I don’t shop much. None of this stops me from bringing home an endless amount of cool rocks and random feathers.
I never really think about the past naturally, I have to consciously look back and analyse things and tend to do this through journalling or meditating. I’m naturally future driven but that’s gotten a bit depressing recently so I’ve been trying to live more in the present and short term future.
I get on best with INFJs and INTPs, they make up most of my friends, with my best friends both being INFJs. I like ENFPs a lot as well, and I do like INFPs but tend to accidentally offend them… oops.
I’m not an argumentative person and can be sensitive sometimes. I’ll speak up for myself and others when necessary, but I just cannot be bothered with genuinely arguing. I do enjoy a playful wind up and can be purposely annoying when I get going, but I never intend to be hurtful. I can take what I give, but I will genuinely get hurt by jokes or comments aimed at things I actually care about or am insecure about.
If you’re into astrology, I’m a Sagittarius sun, Pisces moon and Cancer rising. I don’t really believe in astrology, it’s just a bit of fun to me, but I do at least somewhat relate to my signs.
I think I’ve rambled enough there but any typing help is very appreciated! I’ve never had an outside perspective from anyone who understands MBTI so very interested to see what you guys think. Feel free to ask anything further. Thanks! :)
