Mastodon 5 dark mode

Post image

So Mastodon 5.0 landed on mastodon social today, and while some stuff looks nicer, I really struggle to understand how the developers think "dark blue" (deep violet?) is appropriate as dark mode.

To be frank, it hurts my eyes. Why not stick to a dark mode color scheme like the rest of the web?

Edit: Mainly comparing it to the older 4.x dark mode, though a real black-ish dark mode would be great.

Also: Need to say that I now tested it on a different screen, where the "dark cyan" (aka green) looks great. But on a macbook everything looks way brighter.

If you go in Settings => Appearance, I think the Cyan theme color is better.

The dark cyan (green) theme is definitely better and less stressful, but still not really what I would call dark mode.

For me, it's good enough.

OK, I'd say it is good enough for me, too.

Still wish they would have stuck to the old blue dark mode theme of 4.x. Or had added a real grey/black dark mode.

It looks dark to me 🤷‍♂️ I like it. There's a few different colour theme choices too. But if you want something else, like more customisation or an actual black theme, leave feedback. It's technically a beta, from what I've read.

I hate the background color.

They literally have a Discourse community for you to share your comments directly with the developers and designers. https://community.joinmastodon.org/c/app-feedback/ux/6

I created a css style in Stylus, and manually changed the colours, so that I can finally look at it... The grey colour scheme they used to use is actually very good.

fixing problem that doesn't exist is my opinion to Mastodon 5

Yeah no Mastodon desperately needed a visual overhaul. It was maybe fine in 2020, but at this point it just begs for refreshment
