Yay! Michaels is coming back
Same location as before, Hwy 7 near Woodbine, between Staples and Longo’s. Used to go there frequently with my kids, and then after they closed, only went once in a while to the Richmond Green location. Was just driving by and saw the sign up again.

Only 31% voted for the mayor
Quick math:
256,030 eligible voters (source)
81,070 people voted for mayor
31.1% of the city actually voted.
Quick observations:
Well over half of Markham doesn’t care who runs Markham.
These numbers reinforce the general apathy in the city - you see it with your neighbours, the way people drive, the lack of general social events that take place in the city (outside of whatever the community centers have going on), the list goes on and on.
Rants on Reddit don’t matter, they never have and never will, the vast majority of residents do not use or read this subreddit.
(…therefore this post doesn’t matter)
Thought it was interesting though that the correlation of voter turnout to the general vibe in the city checks out.

looking for short term fostering for a cat
hey all, i am looking for someone who would like to foster a cat. i am currently living on the streets and trying to move into a shelter, but said shelter does not allow animals. i rescued this kitten when she was probably a few weeks old from a trash can over a month ago (i know. the world can be a cruel cruel place). i just need someone to take care of her until i save up enough money to move into a pet-friendly space. to be honest, i really don't know how long it will take for me to save up, but i really need a temporary place right now while i get off the waitlist from pet shelters. if anyone is willing or knows anyone please please message me. thank you

For any IT folks like myself, I just wanted to share that MPL has been offering free Udemy access through Gale for those that are studying for certifications. There are tons of useful courses there and I just found out about this.
Shout out to Markham for providing stuff like this!

90s Nostalgia & New Friends
With the Backstreet Boys announcing their Toronto shows for 2027 and The Weeknd's Hong Kong performance featuring a new collab sampling an old 90s song, I've been feeling some serious nostalgia. Figured I'd put myself out there and meet some cool people. If you're feeling the 90s nostalgia too, that's a plus!
Everyone's got their own thing going on these days, and with kids, work and life in general, it's not always easy to get people together. Figured it's time to step out of my usual routine and expand my social circle a bit.
A bit about me: I'm 48M, Chinese background, born and raised in Toronto, now living in Markham. Partnered with no kids, and have a dog. I'm into fitness and keeping active.
People I Vibe With
I'm open to meeting people whether you're single or in a relationship. Gay, straight or bi — all good. Just looking to make friends, nothing more. Open to people of all ages, from their 20s to 50s, around Toronto and the GTA.
I'm into checking out different food spots and cuisines. Lately, it's been Mexican tacos and Vietnamese food. Always nice to meet people who share some of the same interests.
I enjoy conversations about pretty much anything, from movies and the news to sports and reality TV. I've also been getting more into stand-up comedy and am always up for a good horror movie. I get along best with people who are easygoing, can take a joke and don't take themselves too seriously.
If you think we'd vibe, feel free to reach out!

Adult Orthodontist Recommendation?
Hi all,
I’m looking for a recommendation for an orthodontist who specializes in adults.
I need a permanent wire repaired; the bond came loose.
My dentist tried fixing it like five times, but the bond keeps breaking.
I broke the bond originally by accident 2 years ago. Before my stupidity, the bond held in place for 25+ years, and the left side of the bond is still intact.
So I’m hoping an ortho might have better dental bonding stuff to repair my wire?
Unofficial results came out.

You can view the other results at the link below.

Hit and run footage - Oct 26
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
My girlfriend witnessed a hit and run today on her way home at the intersection of Ninth line / Donald Cousens at around 5:16pm. She didn’t see it but we realized her dashcam picked up some footage.
From the video, it was a white civic that drove straight while a white van turned left and collided. She heard the crash and saw the white car drive away.
Not sure what we can do with the video or if it will be helpful to the person / people involved.

Are there any good fighting gyms around downtown Markham?
Looking for any, traditional fighting schools in downtown Markham, I heard that most are just light sparing and exercise and it's not exactly what I'm looking for.
The more old school ones with more fighting included are like 20-30' from where I am, I was wondering if anyone knows any of them being closer.

Lost Dogs on McCowan and Bur Oak
Saw 2 Shiba looking dogs running together without an owner about 3 minutes ago on McCowan and east of Bur Oak (they ran across the street from the gas station). Couldn’t get a picture or stop them as I’m with my baby.

For voters
Ron Lynn, one of the candidates, was deemed "supportable" by Campaign Life Coalition, an incredibly hard-right organization (according to Wikipedia, the group opposes abortion, euthanasia, embryonic stem cell research, in vitro fertilization, same-sex marriage, and transgender rights legislation.).
This support in itself might not be worth anything, although as you can see, he did answer 'yes' to all of the above questions.
(For the record, I will note that I'm personally unsure of abortion, though I would still ultimately go "choice." As any form of pro-life mentions is in the hands of assholes, I think this is worth noting).

Richmond Hill ON , bird is request
I posted this under birding as well but wanna repost here if anyone has spotted this bird :)
Unfortunately I do not have a best picture of the bird. I have spotted a few times but can never actually get a picture of its full look. The most recent time was a few days ago.
So it is big, pure black, the wing feather shape looks like probably a hawk. Rare calling and flapping when flying, the calling is low and gentle- like woo woo.
That’s all I can observe when it was flying on the low sky lol- 😂 thanks in advance if anyone has any brief info.

Happy election day!
Please vote if you haven't already. With our current mayor, Frank Scarpitti, there have been several instances of overdevelopment in Markham despite resident disapproval. Portables are being increasingly used in public schools, and a decreased suburban character from overcrowded parks. He also led approval of the AI data centre on Hwy 7, which will take up significant resources and money from our area.
No politician is perfect, but now is our chance to elect someone who will represent our interests and is open to resident feedback. Take the time to read through the 3 candidates' campaigns. Every vote counts!

Who you think will be the next mayor of Markham
Polls are closing in less than 10 minutes who you think will be our next Mayor?
Edit Frank Scarpitti wins. We have another 4 more years!
