Stocks 35M - My financial portfolio and salary progression

Saw some younger ones shared theirs so here’s mine. Sharing my financial progress at 35. this might help some to feel better or worst. You can also criticize me all you want 🙂

Here’s my actual portfolio as of 15 October 2026, using current values rather than the amounts originally invested.
The recent movement on bank stocks reduced my value by 7% so yea…

EPF

- EPF savings balance: RM 288,797.10
- Invested EPF — KAF Core Income Fund: RM 59,283.07
- Total EPF, including invested EPF: RM 348,080.17

Invested EPF is listed separately and counted only once. It is excluded from the cash-funded investments below.

Cash-funded unit trusts (via FSMone and IFast with PFA)

- Amova Singapore Dividend Equity Fund — MYR Class: RM 25,853.02
- KAF Core Income Fund: RM 36,526.59
- TA Global Technology Fund: RM 52,814.91

- CIMB: RM 750.00

Total: RM 105,407.79

My bank holdings are intended for the long term.

I am open for optimization suggestion, I think my personal financial advisor is quite good, I listen to him most of the time and none of my fund portfolio is making a loss so far, but bank stocks 🥲 is my own take.

Overall position

- EPF savings: RM 288,797.10
- Invested EPF: RM 59,283.07
- Cash-funded unit trusts: RM 152,970.81
- Malaysian stocks: RM 105,407.79

Grand total: RM606,458.77

This excludes bank cash, brokerage cash and a small Grab holding. It’s an investment snapshot, rather than net worth after deducting liabilities.

A little background

My salary progression over the years was roughly:
2013-2016 : RM1.2k part-time
2016: RM2.8k →
2017-2019: RM4.2k → RM5.5k
2020-2021: RM7k → RM9k+
2022-2024: RM11k→ RM16.2k
2024-2026: RM24k → RM30k (2nd half of 2026)
I submitted this post on MalaysiaPayGap, it’s the latest post. You can read the story if you’re interested.

My income has grown, but I don’t assume it will stay at this level forever. Regular commitments are around RM7.5k monthly, with irregular expenses and occasional splurges. I have 1 dependent, my mom. My commitment to her is around 2.5k per month - car, monthly allowance, and etc.

Stocks Got offered Rm100k @1.99% not sure what to do with it.

So I single (27M) working in SG with $3.7k monthly income, got offered Rm100k @1.99% 60 months by UOB monthly instalment is around RM 1.85k, not sure what to do with it.

I was thinking to all in Maybank or VWRA (div stock + stable) but simple calculation tells me I still have to pay the instalment for around RM1.3k (div 5.9% 1 year = 5900/12=RM491 per month)

My monthly saving is around rm6k (~2k SGD, no commitment at all other than PTPTN), but i DCA most of it mainly to maybank and VWRA. I have my emergency fund ready ($15k). This is my first time to have such big loan, I’m tryna to be more cautious on this. So I will need some advice on this.

Stocks Game Plan for 2027

Post image
122 Upvotes

26M Malaysian, no wife, no gf, no mortgage, no kids. No loans. No debts, working in Canada after grad, really started investing in 2025. Started with penny stocks and realized gains were minuscule for the stress that came along with it. I guess it was also a blessing in disguise that I started investing/trading when I had little money - I made a lot of mistakes, closing early(i bought MU at 190 and sold at 230💀), wrong sizing, buying at the top(I bought Iren at 70💀)etc, but because my acc was actually small, it wasnt detrimental to me.

Also used to day trade/scalp short dated options, made a lot/lost a lot(basically breakeven on that portfolio) - Gave up with realising, I dont have an edge to scalp, and it was really just luck on my first few wins.

Went back to boring investing and swing trading long dated options(both buying and selling). Bought aggressively when Meta was at 580 and bought more after they finished their lawsuit. I did 2x leverage on this as my conviction was really high on META, in hindsight, i would have actually bought leaps instead but wtv. Muse came out and I closed my 2x position at 780 and bought back at 740 level. Just gonna hold this forever + Meta offering the new share thingy, I might buy more.

Rn I am very bullish on Amazon. If we get 300 by EOY, it will be a good Christmas present.

I most likely will be moving home next year. So I want to maximise my gainz without being overly risky. I guess the biggest thing right now is whether I should take a line of credit(around 25K CAD, 70K rm to buy more stocks - no option play for this one). Other than hyperscalers, what are you guys looking at.

Not interested in Memory, small cap, neocloud stocks.

Stocks Got 50k saved. where should I invest in that's the most profitable with low/ no expense.

Should I invest in stocks? I have voo. I think the returns are just ok. Should I put in crypto or Grab or FD instead I do prefer something more to low effort consistent profit.

Stocks I lost my 10k of savings in trading forex. What should I do?

So, last few months, I was really fed up with my 9-to-5 job. I saved up MYR10,000 because I wanted a change and thought forex trading could be my ticket out. I resigned and jumped headfirst into the forex market. I was trading all kinds of pairs like EUR/USD, GBP/JPY, and USD/CHF, thinking I could make a quick buck.

One day, I decided to go big on a trade. I put a huge amount into a GBP/JPY position, hoping it would go up because I was feeling confident after a few successful trades. I thought it was a sure thing, but then, out of nowhere, the market took a nosedive.

Within just one hour, the GBP/JPY pair moved drastically against my position. It was like a bad dream—my trade went from being in profit to a massive loss. I watched in horror as my MYR10,000 dwindled to nothing. I tried to hold on, hoping it would turn around, but the losses kept piling up. By the end of the hour, I had lost all my savings.

It was a hard lesson, lah. I learned the forex market is unpredictable and not as easy as it looks. Now, I’m back to square one, figuring out my next steps. It’s a tough experience, but I guess it’s part of the journey. Gotta learn from these mistakes and plan better for the future.

Stocks 24M Looking for a portfolio & financial health check. Zero debt, no major commitments, ~RM108k portfolio. Where can I optimize?

Hi everyone, looking to get some outside perspective on how I can optimize and improve my current financial setup.

Current Assets

  • Assets / Vehicles: Fully paid-off car and motorcycle (motorcycle was recently crashed and is currently pending an insurance payout/claim).
  • Cash balance: ~RM4.3k
  • Money Market Fund: ~RM30.4k (serving as primary emergency fund/liquid yield)
  • ETFs: VOO (~$1.7k USD), QQQM (~$4.1k USD)
  • US Individual Stocks: UNH (~$6.3k USD), MSFT (~$4.5k USD), ASML (~$770 USD), MCD (~$767 USD), AAPL (~$50 USD)
  • Bursa Malaysia: SUNREIT (1,000 units @ ~RM2.5k) currently at -15% loss

Questions I'd appreciate advice on:

  1. Emergency Fund Sizing & Placement: I have ~RM30k sitting in the Maybank Money Market Fund. Is this sufficient/ideal, or should I be looking at other vehicles like EPF self-contribution, ASM, or high-yield digital banks (e.g., GXBank, Boost, Rize)?
  2. Insurance & Protection: Aside from the pending motorcycle insurance claim, what baseline medical/life coverage should I ensure I have locked down before deploying more capital aggressively?
  3. Next Steps: Given the clean slate (no debt, low overhead), what would be the highest ROI move right now to scale net worth further?

Thanks in advance for your insights!

Stocks Genting is asking shareholders for RM1.25b. 86% of it goes to old debt and interest. What is your decision?

So I went through where Genting's RM1.25b rights money actually goes.

RM800m to pay back loans due within a year. RM280m for interest. The rest is working capital. Basically 86% goes back to the banks, zero for new business.

Then I saw the interest bill. RM2.1b a year. Walao. The whole RM1.25b covers barely 7 months of interest.

If you got 1,000 shares, they want about RM325 from you. Don't pay up, your stake shrinks from 100 to 80. And that RM1.30 price was set when the share was RM1.88. Now it's RM1.45, so if they reprice it could be closer to RM1, and you end up at 75.

I score Bursa stocks on my own sheet, Genting gets 24/100. Only thing going for it is it's dirt cheap vs book value.

So those holding, you all subscribing or just let it go? Or if I read something wrong, tell me lah.

Stocks 3K MYR monthly investment

Hi guys,

I (25M), non-bumi, currently have around RM3K left over from salary every month after expenses. No debt or commitments, single, and already have around 12 months emergency fund saved up. Also no plans for any major commitment anytime soon, so I can afford to take a bit more risk while Im still young.

I am looking more towards medium to long term investing, and Im okay with medium to high risk investments. That said, I also dont really want to actively trade or watch my portfolio everyday.

Now Im wondering whether I should keep things simple and put everything into VOO every month, or split it across different things like stocks, crypto, gold, EFP etc.

How would you allocate the 3K monthly?

Stocks Anyone into Malaysian stock lately rather than just US Stocks/ETF?

I been looking into KLCI lately and a lot of them is interesting….

For example IOIPG (IOI properties berhad) recently the price is surging because of their central CBD tower located in SG they build last year which has 94% occupancy rate as of latest data and its valued a lot.

Genting berhad also interesting, they had purchases few casino and recently get their New York gambling license. They apparently also own a lot of lands in indonesia, own casinos at the UK, Bahamas and pretty diversified overall.

IHH healthcare also interesting, they own hospital like glenagles, prince court, own hospitals at SG, india, turkey even Netherlands…

US stock or ETF like VOO is boring imo, we have a lot of pretty interesting local stock but i never heard anyone mentioned it here, only US Stocks or ETF…

Stocks Overthinking on investment strategy

I'm 27, and a few years ago I started thinking about allocating part of my savings into things like ASB/SSPN that could generate around 4–5% annually.

My idea was to build up a sizeable amount there and use the returns to fund my hobbies, while continuing to contribute a small amount every month. Right now, I have around RM65k invested, which generates roughly RM2,500 a year.

Recently, I discovered ETFs and started wondering whether I made a mistake by putting so much of my savings into lower-return investments instead of investing in ETFs earlier.

So my question is: at 27, have I missed out on a significant opportunity by not investing in ETFs earlier?

Stocks Lump Sum or DCA my RM150k into ETFs?

Currently have about RM150k parked in safe instruments like TH/ASB. I have been very risk averse, until lately when I realize, not taking a risk, is itself an opportunity risk. I have looksd into ETFs since 5 years ago, and every time the market goes up, I feel a regret in me for being too afraid to take a risk.

Nevertheless, I am not trying to succumb into my emotions and plunge head first without a strategy. And for that reason, the RM150k is already excluding my 6 months emergency funds. I also have sufficient monthly cashflow from my salary to fund my lifestyle, or in other words, I am not dependent on the dividends from my investments.

Now the ultimate question is: DCA or Lump Sum the whole amount? The ETFs I will be investing will be mostly tech heavy (Because Sharia ETFs are mostly heavy in tech)

I asked Claude, and it says Lump Sum wins over DCA roughly two-thirds of historical period, based on the sole fact that markets have risen more than it has fallen.

But, DCA has its advantage too, especially during sustained downturn periods like 2008, 2000-2002, or the 2020 pandemic. And on top of that, there is the classic example of what happened to Japan in 1989, where Nikkei peaked and has not recovered to the same level for about 3 decades.

So I’m leaning towards DCA over the next 18ish months (RM8k per month) due to the ongoing geopolitical tension involving the US. But again, knowing that I’m risk averse by nature, I just want to get some opinion from here. Are my concerns valid, or am I being overly paranoid?

Last but not least, I know ultimately no one can decide for me. But I just want to get opinions on my thought process, and be more informed of the risks I’m taking.

Stocks [ADVICE] Uni student looking to invest first RM2k for the long term (Medium-Low Risk)

Hi everyone, I’m a local uni student and I’ve managed to build up about RM6,000 in savings so far. Right now, I’m parking it in Shopee Money+ for the liquidity, cashback and slight daily returns.

Since I have some leftover savings at the end of every month, I want to stop leaving all my cash idle and start letting it compound. I plan to carve out RM2,000 to make my first proper long-term investment.

  • Goal: Long-term compounding wealth
  • Risk Appetite: Medium to low risk
  • Capital: RM2,000 lump sum + small monthly top-ups

What should I be aware of as a beginner, and what platforms or assets would you recommend for my situation? Thanks in advance!

Stocks Dilemma between listening to my parents or diversifying my own investments.

Hi gurus, as my title states i (25M) am currently having a dilemma over listening to my parents or doing my own thing in regards to investing.

For context, my mom is a CFO in a pretty big company and my dad was a finance chairman in a pretty big company until recently he retired. I am saying this because obviously they would know much more about money compared to me.

I have been working for a year in the healthcare sector contracted earning well but since I’m contracted, my EPF is self contributed. The only investments I’m doing currently is EPF and FD (3.7% pa) currently.

I recently have been doing a-lot of digging into snp500 through ibkr and have been seeing alot of people saying the earlier u get into ETFs and holding it the better. However my parents are advising me otherwise which their advise carries alot of weight because of what they do.

Couple of reasons they gave me were:

  1. Im not stable yet since I’ve only been working a year and EPF and FD for now is good enough.

  2. They mention i still have time since I’m young and for now just invest through more stable options first.

Any advice or words that can be shared to a young man here? I’ll also answer questions if more context is needed.

Stocks Do people (not company) actually make money through algorithmic trading approach?

I do research as part of my job. The topic of algorithmic trading has been under my radar for quite sometime despite being out of my domain due to my personal interest.

However, I've heard that papers published with regards to algorithmic trading are often overclaimed to an extent. Basically, papers/ideas that actually work and can make dollars wouldn't even be published in the first place.

So I want to know if anyone (or know their relatives/friends/connections) had made their fortune in stock trading through algorithmic trading. We're not talking about enterprises here, cus their case is different (resource-wise, and purpose-wise too).

Stocks Help on Investment

Hi I need advise on where to invest my money. Currently I have in FD:

USD20k

AUD200k

SGD300k

Cash RM40k

My gross salary is RM230k per year, and I do not want to work in corporates anymore because I am just too mentally tired of politics.

Hence I am thinking of any businesses that I can setup with my current portfolio that will bring me the same amount of pay, but there is no business that can have the same risk-reward level as an employee, all businesses that I can think of (and willing to go into) does not guarantee that it will not fail.

So, I was thinking is it possible to achieve the same risk-reward just by investing in ETFs like VOO or QQQM?

I have no loans, and have a paid-up car and a roof over my head.

Hi all, I am 24yrs old and currently working with 3k salary.
I bought 90k of ASNB and I just discovered ETF, so I bought 10k of SnP500.
I feels like I should starting to take more risk by allocate ASNB money to ETF.
So I am wondering whether I should buy more SnP500 or invest other ETF?
I am looking for long term growth so rugi for 1 year is totally fine with me.
Thank you for your time

Stocks Anyone else just holding dividend stocks long-term and letting time do the work?

I’ve realised one of the biggest “cheats” to financial independence is just… holding on.

Seriously: time + dividends = magic.

Been investing in dividend stocks for years, and the longer I hold, the more it pays off.

Would love to hear from others doing the same — what are you holding long-term?
