Macaw cage question

I plan on getting a green wing macaw in the future, but I would like to get everything it needs in advance starting with the cage. What are cages that you people who already own macaws would recommend? Links if possible!

Green wings are insanely strong. Get the biggest, strongest cage your budget allows. My blue & gold is in an HQ cage made by A&E Cage Company.

If I'm paying $6,000 for a cage, then I'M sleeping in it.

We are talking about a bird that can live as long as a human. $6000 is a pretty reasonable investment for a home that bird will live in for 70+ years!

No, it's not. You don't need to spend $400,000 to acquire a good car, and you don't need to spend $6,000 to acquire a good macaw cage. I don't recall the original asking price, but after a bit of negotiation, years ago I bought a macaw-sized used stainless steel cage in excellent condition for $400. Then I sold the large iron cage I had been using for my blue-and-gold macaw and Panama Amazon.

Deals are out there to be had, you just have to look for them. In the meantime, rather than buying one new, the first cage should be a used macaw-sized iron cage in good to excellent condition, there are plenty of them out there.

While the stainless cages are expensive, they are very long lasting and easier to clean. If you buy the A&E cages they will only last about 5-10 years before they need to be replaced. My macaw breaks the plastic lock mechanism on the main door in the first week.

For the money and size, it is a good deal. I have a Macaw in mine, and it works great. It gives her two play areas, although she always stays near the top.

My green wing only sleeps in her cage at night. I open it in the morning and put her back inside just before lights out. She has her own room as day 'cage'. Door to the room is always open if I am home. I have not yet found a cage strong enough to last

When I got my green wing 26 years old I got him a king cage which is one of the strongest cages made and have never had an issue.  Not sure if they're still around and american made at the time

My 34 year old Severe is in a King’s cage. Could stand to be re-powder coated in places, but it is still a good cage!
