What is the most underrated skill in modern MMA?

u/UFightCheap Mar 31 '20
Do you think the UFC should try and hold UFC 249 or not?
48
u/AlexPerezUFC Mar 31 '20
Absolutely! Fans need some entertainment and we want desperately to get back to work. I trust the UFC would do everything to make the event totally safe. Let's do it
29
u/LogansLS Mar 31 '20
Is a hotdog a sandwich?
33
u/AlexPerezUFC Mar 31 '20
Haha, I've had a lot of time to think lately but I'm not ready to tackle that age-old question
19
u/Doo-StealYour-HoChoi Mar 31 '20
Yoo Whats up Alex, what is your normal walk around weight between fights?
23
u/AlexPerezUFC Mar 31 '20
Hahaha who's asking?
36
u/Doo-StealYour-HoChoi Mar 31 '20
Just a curious observer buddeh, I honestly just like getting an idea of the wide range of the walk around weights of different UFC divisions.

u/Master-Sacker Mar 31 '20
If you had to pick one fighter to fight against, any era, any weight class, who would you choose?
33
22
u/TheBrothersClegane Mar 31 '20
Did Carole Baskin kill her first husband?
21
u/AlexPerezUFC Mar 31 '20
Haha I haven't gone down that rabbit hole yet. I'll let you know in a couple days once I get a chance to watch and decide for myself!
7
u/TheBrothersClegane Mar 31 '20
Do you consider your win vs Gray the most significant of your career since it got you signed or was the win over de Tomas more important because it showed people you belonged in the ufc?
15
u/AlexPerezUFC Mar 31 '20
It might be cliche, but I don't think of any of my wins as being the most significant. It's like how you don't have favorite kids. They're all special, they all mean the world to me -- especially at the time. The biggest fight is always the next one, the next challenge. That's how you've gotta look at in this sport!

u/TheBrothersClegane Mar 31 '20 edited Mar 31 '20
Not cliche at all! Thanks for doing this and taking the time. Good luck to you sir!

What's your thoughts on the current state of your division? Who'd you like to fight next? What are your thoughts on Figueredo and Joey B?
Thanks for coming down bro! You're an animal and a great finisher, always excited when I see you're on a card
10
u/AlexPerezUFC Mar 31 '20
Appreciate your support! The division is more exciting and competitive than ever, so I'm pumped. I've got a fight set for May, then I want a crack at the belt, whoever has it. I don't care who has it when I get my shot. I don't like the rematch but I get why it's happening

Mar 31 '20
What is your typical Monday workout?
8
u/AlexPerezUFC Mar 31 '20
I'm up early to train BJJ with Giva Santana, then I'm off to train with Coach Oyama, then I'll rest for a little while, then it's off to wrestling!
2
Mar 31 '20
Givaâs a legend, his new gym looks amazing. And Colin Oyamaâs an OG. You must know Richard Alarcon, heâs a fun up and comer and Iâve enjoyed his recent run. Beating Gianni Grippo at ADCC is no joke. Any young prospects we should look out for, at One and at Oyamaâs? Good luck with everything.

u/_Red_Mist_ Mar 31 '20
Thanks for joining us Alex. Do you agree with Benavidez getting a rematch against Figuerido?
28
u/AlexPerezUFC Mar 31 '20
No, I don't. I understand why it would happen because Figuerido missed weight, but Benavidez is the one who caused the heat butt. Why should his opponent be locked into another fight with him because of that?
8
u/adambuddy Mar 31 '20
How big a fan of the sport were you before you started training? Favorite fighter from those days? Favorite event?
18
u/AlexPerezUFC Mar 31 '20
I was a big fan when I started training. Tito was the champ and I got to see Coach Oyama on TV coaching, eventually I'd get to learn under him. Favorite old school fighter is Anderson Silva, before that is Kevin Randleman. Hard to pinpoint a specific event, but I remember all the Tito-Chuck fights were amazing nights!

Mar 31 '20
Who do you wanna fight the most right now besides Cejudo? Dope arm triangle at Blaydes/JDS btw

u/jgnurly Mar 31 '20
Thanks for doing this man. Your finish of Shorty Torres is one of my favorites of all time. Assuming your fight with Kara-France happens, how do you get the job done against him?
10
u/AlexPerezUFC Mar 31 '20
Thanks for having me! This fight could end a lot of different ways. I'm better than him everywhere, so we'll just see what happens on fight night. I think this will be Fight of the Night, or I'll definitely be taking home a Performance Bonus! -- maybe both

u/CrazySwitch Mar 31 '20
Are you a âCall of Dutyâ or âBreath of the wildâ kind of guy
11
u/AlexPerezUFC Mar 31 '20
I'm not a huge gamer but I got a Nintendo Switch yesterday and I've been having a lot of fun playing Crash Bandicoot, hahah so I guess somewhere in the middle

u/UUGE_ASSHOLE Mar 31 '20
If Dana called you tomorrow with an opportunity to enter a TUF style house/quarantine competition would you enter? All fighters are tested before entering house, no corner/team going with you, 3 exhibition fights (so not held on permanent record) over the course of 4-6 weeks. Small show payment with follow up fights paid at normal rate without tolling contract.
5
u/AlexPerezUFC Mar 31 '20
Sign me up, but I've gotta leave the house with the belt, I've done more than enough exhibition fights!

u/buzznights Mar 31 '20
Alex is out for now but he'll check back in on any unanswered questions. Check him out on IG.
Thanks for stopping in again, Alex!

Do you mind sharing a typical week for skills training during camp?

u/DSRSPCTD Mar 31 '20
Are you less worried now about the state of the Flyweight division?
6
u/AlexPerezUFC Mar 31 '20
I suppose so. I was never really worried though. 125 is ideal, but I know I can do really well at bantamweight too, so I knew my job was safe. That being said, I'm really excited about the division right now, and I think it's here to stay
2
u/NBAyoungboy42 Mar 31 '20
Should the next title fight be figuerdo vs benavidez or do you think should Moreno get a shot over benavidez?

u/17owenfisher Mar 31 '20
Have you done any scouting on Kai Kara France yet? If so what are is his biggest strengths and weaknesses?
5
u/AlexPerezUFC Mar 31 '20
Yup, my coaches and I have watched everything that we can. Strengths would be standing up, but he's no slouch on the ground either. From all his footage, I'm better everywhere
2
u/shit_poster_69_420 Mar 31 '20
Can you remember the first MMA fight you watched?
5
u/AlexPerezUFC Mar 31 '20
I can't remember specifically the fighters/fight, but it would be a local fight at the old Palace Fighting Championship. It wasn't UFC or anything, but I knew immediately this was for me!

On a scale of 1-to-fucking-hell-man how crushed are you by Tony Khabib?
7
u/AlexPerezUFC Mar 31 '20
That would be pretty disappointing. Everything seemed to be going pretty smooth until that virus showed up ...

If you absolutely had to choose, would you rather get TKOd via liver shot or KOd via overhand to the temple?
1
u/SteezyStylez Mar 31 '20
Do you know any retired fighters that would be interested in coming on a podcast to talk about life after retirement and what that transition was like? I know youâre nowhere near retirement and still on your way to the top. Figured Iâd shoot my shot.

Is it true that Dana makes fighters lick his head when he signs them to the UFC?
