u/wovagrovaflame Nov 24 '17

How much do you think Johny ate today? Long time fan btw

222

u/Benaskren1 Nov 24 '17

An ungodly amount

116

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '17

Under what circumstances, if any, would you be willing to fight Woodley?

216

u/Benaskren1 Nov 24 '17

None

39

u/Truchampion Nov 24 '17

Not even if he betrayed the hidden leaf village?

College teammates in wrestling, MMA teammates at Roofus sport, Ben is Tyrons wrestling coach.

8

u/TotalSavage Nov 24 '17

It's a Cain / DC situation. Too close.

u/RedPantyKnight Nov 24 '17

Was Chaels story about your black belt true? He said you essentially just declared yourself a black belt and challenged people to prove you don't have the skills to be one.

347

u/Benaskren1 Nov 24 '17

Yes

164

u/RedPantyKnight Nov 24 '17

That's bad ass. Has anyone actually tried to challenge it?

u/thundermg Nov 24 '17

That's alpha as fuck

4

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '17

Link to the story?

2

u/thielemodululz Nov 24 '17

How dare you, Chael would never lie.

112

u/FantasticDan1 Nov 24 '17

Would you be interested in a fight with GSP at 185?

108

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '17

How would you do against Kahbib?

208

u/Benaskren1 Nov 24 '17

Very well

23

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '17

What makes you think that in particular?

79

u/TheOnlyOneWhoKnows Nov 24 '17

He's bigger.

-3

u/F_ckYo_ Nov 24 '17

And better.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '17

He doesn't think, he knows.

-6

u/Aekov Nov 24 '17

Why would you say that to him, hes a legend compared to khabib.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '17

I wanted to know his answer

2

u/rainizism Nov 24 '17

Like how this AMA went apparently. -_-

1

u/boner_fide Nov 24 '17

This is a dream matchup.

86

u/wizardoflaw Nov 24 '17

Why is your mma retirement different from all the temporary mma retirements? I don't believe you will retire.

160

u/Benaskren1 Nov 24 '17

Fair enough. Wait and see

4

u/BasicallyClean Apr 20 '18

Looks like u/CodeMaeDae wins this round.

70

u/thebearjewster Nov 24 '17

how do you believe Folkstyle translates into mma, as opposed to Freestyle or Greco? Would you recommend Folkstyle as a base over the other two?

112

u/Benaskren1 Nov 24 '17

Absolutely. The ability to control, not be controlled is huge.

3

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '17

Good question

69

u/bigmeech99 Nov 24 '17

Who do you think your toughest fight would be if you were in the UFC the last 3 or 4 years?

Who is one fighter UFC or non-UFC that you wish you had the chance to fight past or present, any weight class?

152

u/Benaskren1 Nov 24 '17

Toughest fight- Tyron

Love to fight GSP, Hughes or Hendricks when he was good

31

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '17

Follow up: if GSP drops back to welterweight how do you think it goes with Woodley? I personally think GSP's mma wrestling was some of the best out there in his prime but Woodley is just on a other level and has the power to drop him like a sack of shit.

115

u/Benaskren1 Nov 24 '17

I think he has to drop to 170, he definitely doesnt want to fight Whitaker

0

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '17

What makes you think Woodley is on another level?

If you look at everyone gsp beat and their records at the time and look at how decisively he beat them in my opinion Woodley doesn't hold a candle to prime gsp.

Pretty sure Rory put a hurting on Woodley and he would probably do the same today.

2

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '17

I meant his mma wrestling was on another level. Not his overall game.

17

u/TheOnlyOneWhoKnows Nov 24 '17

Just my opinion but I think Rory is a tougher fight than Woodley.

15

u/Kalabula Nov 24 '17

I know styles make fights but the way Rory pieced up Woodley supports your theory.

0

u/prematurepost Nov 24 '17

Roryโ€™s pressure and crisp, high volume striking with Woodleys back against the cage was incredible. Outclassed him imo

66

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '17

Have you ever played in any of the disc golf tournaments at sedgley woods in Philly?

93

u/Benaskren1 Nov 24 '17

I have thrown there 1x. Nice course

30

u/tigerbalmuppercut Nov 24 '17

lmao of course Ben Askren would be into disc golf.

16

u/prematurepost Nov 24 '17

Itโ€™s good shit. Look into, thatโ€™s all Iโ€™m saying.

297

u/Garainp Nov 24 '17

Would you rather have Lobov's arms or Gabrant's IQ?

308

u/Benaskren1 Nov 24 '17

LOLOLOL

118

u/TheGodSlay3r Nov 24 '17

Gabrant

79

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '17

Who was the toughest opponent that you've fought in your pro MMA career?

130

u/Benaskren1 Nov 24 '17

Hieron gave me the toughest fight, but Lima or Koreshkov are the best

54

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '17

What's it like in Singapore? Do you spend much time there when you're not fighting?

100

u/Benaskren1 Nov 24 '17

Singapore is amazing I have like 9 friends here this time so we are having fun

54

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '17

do you think the weightcutting rules ONE has put in place should be for all organizations?

93

u/Benaskren1 Nov 24 '17

Yes the safest and most fair way to do it

52

u/solidsimpson Nov 24 '17

Do you think Chael can beat a Fedor or Mir to become heavyweight champ in Bellator?

120

u/Benaskren1 Nov 24 '17

Man that will be a tough field for him to get through. I could see him beating Fedor. Of the HWTs I think he struggles the most with Mir.

52

u/righteousbud Nov 24 '17

If Shane Carwin gets in as an alternate he will kill chael

If Mighty Mouse's flying armbar wasn't set up by a suplex, what was it technically called?

213

u/Benaskren1 Nov 24 '17

Mat return. Suplex would include back arching

12

u/VeraciousBuffalo Nov 24 '17

Gotcha thanks!

38

u/robibhat Nov 24 '17
  1. To what extent has BJJ influenced your mma ground game? How does it mix with folkstyle?

  2. After you, which mma fighter has the best folkstyle ground fighting in mma?

96

u/Benaskren1 Nov 24 '17

MMA and BJJ work awesome together if you know what you are going. Problem is a lot of BJJ guys are too stubborn to do any of it.

2. Khabib(funny bc he never did folkstyle wrestling)

2

u/nordik1 Nov 24 '17

I think he means BJJ guys are too stubborn to practice folkstyle...? Trying to clarify that one.

47

Good question, never thought about it

67

u/lepigpengaming Nov 24 '17

And never will...

36

u/BoxCon1 Nov 24 '17

Top 3 wrestlers in UFC at the moment?

96

u/Benaskren1 Nov 24 '17

32

u/phdinmmamath Nov 24 '17

Who are your favorite fighters to watch?

98

u/Benaskren1 Nov 24 '17

Cormier and Woodley

30

u/StephenLangdownONEFC Nov 24 '17

Don't really have a question but looking forward to watching you fight this evening. Kick ass!

57

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '17

Do you feel any regret about not getting to fight in the UFC?

194

u/Benaskren1 Nov 24 '17

Wasn't my choice so I have nothing to be regretful about

25

u/[deleted] Nov 24 '17

Would you compete in sub grappling after your mma career?

78

u/Benaskren1 Nov 24 '17

Possibly, not anything right away

25

u/Trey__2 Nov 24 '17

What inspired you to go out and train mma?

60

u/Benaskren1 Nov 24 '17

Saw other wrestlers doing it

25

u/yellow_logic Nov 24 '17

Maia is so basic. I had to imitate Maia in sparring and it was awful bc there was no creativity or ability to keep Tyron guessing what was coming
