Welcome to /r/Lumix, the place for every Panasonic enjoyer.

Please have a look at the sidebar (desktop) or the "About" section (mobile web) or "See more" under the subreddit description (mobile application). Or just use this wiki page, which is identical.

This contains many resource and a few basic rules and guidelines. To highlight some things, please keep in mind:

  • Absolutely no affiliate links on /r/Lumix as these tend to result in a swift ban. For this reason, shortened URLs, or pointlessly long links that could hide affiliate tags in them (see link guidelines for details) are also not allowed. Be wary of "share" features on Amazon, etc. - they shorten your URLs! These can hide affiliate tags without you knowing. Please do not sell anything in /r/lumix either (LUTs, gear, and so on). This is a community subreddit, not a place for business.

  • Make post titles as if there was no post body. They should give all context whilst being short (i.e. not a whole paragraph), effective. In other words, include the relevant camera/lens in the post title whenever possible and use descriptive titles - meaning all the context should be in the post title (see title guidelines for details). For example - asking about lens options? The title should mention what do you intend to shoot then (as well as what you shot with in case of original content). Photo/video/hybrid? Weddings, documentary, landscape, wildlife, etc. If your post's title is for example only "S5ii vs G9ii" as opposed to "S5ii or G9ii for landscape photography", it'll probably get removed and you'll be asked to repost with a better title.

The latter may sound like a pointless nuisance, but it requires minuscule effort and everyone gets better experience when it comes to reading, searching, and archiving the subreddit. Keep in mind that your posts are not only for you, but also for everyone who might have the same problem/question.

Please do keep in mind this post doesn't cover all of the rules, few as they are. For the full rules, please see them in the usual places or visit this wiki article.

If your post gets "removed by Reddit filters", it means that moderators need to manually approve it. Making repeated attempts probably only makes your accounts karma worse, so please be patient and wait for a moderator to approve it. This isn't our job, so it can take anything from seconds to hours.

If you are interested, feel free to join hundreds of other Lumix creators at the official LUMIX Creators Club Discord server.

Your friendly janitors thank you!

I can't believe this is done just like that without any kind of public announcement or big event coming up. I think we can buckle up and get ready for more.

L-Mount Interesting finding: 4K mode on Lumix S5M2 / S9 / S1M2 has aliasing, but toggling Hybrid Zoom fixes it?

Hey guys,

Just ran across this video testing 4K mode on Lumix full-frame bodies (S5M2, S5M2X, S9, S1M2) and found a pretty interesting issue (and fix) that I thought was worth sharing here.

The issue: When shooting standard 4K, if you pixel peep, there’s noticeable color aliasing (blue fringing on fine lines/logos) and pretty aggressive over-sharpening on text and high-contrast edges compared to 6K Open Gate,.

Normally not a huge deal for casual shooting, but if you do green screen / chroma key work, those messy edges can definitely mess up your key.

The weird fix: The video shows that if you simply turn on Hybrid Zoom or Crop Zoom in the menu—without actually zooming in at all,—the aliasing completely goes away and the harsh sharpening cleans up,.

Looks like enabling those features forces the camera to use a different resampling algorithm.

If you don't want to shoot 6K Open Gate all the time, toggling that on seems like a solid workaround for now until Panasonic hopefully patches it in firmware,.

Thought this might save someone some headache on their next shoot!

Link to the video if you want to see the side-by-side crops: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjoNATVLcXk

Note: this video is in Korean language but you can choose English Audio track.

General / Discussion Will Lumix ever give us 0 -2 +2 AEB in just 3 shots like Sony, Canon and Nikon?

This is pretty odd because +/-2 EV is standard in real estate and landscape photography.

Is there any reason technical why this isn't available in both FF and M43 cameras by Lumix?

Is this something that people currently doing custom firmwares with AI could implement?

Show and Tell Sigma 65mm f2.0 DG DN Review

Post image

The most important lens that I own is my 35mm. Everything else is setup around that central lens.

I’ve been looking for a good pairing for a while now. After trying a 55mm, and a 75mm, I was lucky enough that Sigma came out with a 65mm lens. Lucky, because they are the only manufacturer that offer an autofocus lens with this focal length.

What I really love about the lens is how versatile it is. Because it’s such an in-between focal length, it sometimes behaves and looks like a 50mm and other times as an 85mm. So it’s great to use for some close up portraits in combination with a wider lens or to use it for headshots, where one would generally use a portrait lens for. And it saves me from getting two lenses. I’m a minimalist, so the less I can own, the happier I am.

I love the build quality and the aperture ring! Sigma always knock it out of the park in that regard but I especially love this whole ‘i’ series in general. If I wasn’t such a minimalist, I would gladly get almost every one of their ‘i’ lenses! I always appreciate great quality, reliable, compact lenses. This is my smallest lens which makes it great to throw in the camera bag, just in case, for shoots where I’m unsure if I’ll need it or not. In comparison, bringing the 70-200mm is always such a commitment!

The biggest negative for me is that compared to my other Sigma lenses, this has a magenta colour cast. In Lightroom it generally tends to be one click colder and two clicks more magenta. And sometimes, even after corrections, the colours in general aren’t quite as amazing as my Sigma 35mm f1.2 II. Although that is a real top performer in this regard. Usually this colour issue can be fixed, but every one in a thousand ends up being converted to black and white instead.

I really appreciate what Sigma are doing. Their lenses are fantastic! Built well, reliable, great image quality and affordable. I really appreciate the ease of mind I have with Sigma lenses when it comes to shooting a full wedding day. I know I won’t have any issues and they’ll work reliably all day! This lens is another great addition, not just to their line up but also to mine.

If you'd like to read a longer write up and see some wedding and couple shoot examples, you can have a look here.

News / Rumour Official info from Blazar regarding Talon lenses! (well, at least for now)

Post image
38 Upvotes

Today, Blazar announced on their instagram the release of Talon 75mm for E-mount. The comments instantly exploded with many people asking for L-mount variation release date. And shortly after, Blazar commented: “L Mount - December”.

I really hope that this is true, because we had some info (which tbh I am not entirely sure where it came from) that it’ll be available in July, then nothing. AFAIK Cam Mackey received info from his contact at Blazar that it’ll be released in October, still nothing. This time, this is finally an official statement from Blazar, so I really really hope we finally get to buy these lenses, ideally before Christmas (so I can justify buying the whole 3-lenses set :D). These are literally my dream lenses and I’ve been waiting for them ever since they came out! Now it’s starting to look real, hope we don’t get disappointed in the end!

General / Discussion Horrible Lumix S9 Rental Experience

I rented a Lumix S9 kit through Lumix's rental program on Oct. 20th. It is now been a week and I still haven't received any tracking for the package. I paid for 2-day shipping so that I could maximize my rental time but it's looking like I may not receive it at all before my due date which is November 3rd. Lumix took a $999 deposit and hasn't said a word. I've already contacted support last Friday and haven't heard anything since. This is my experience and would not recommend the Lumix Rental Program.

L-Mount Wide vintage lens recommendations for Lumix S5 (20mm–35mm)

Post image
18 Upvotes

I love this organic, moody look and rendering from setups like a 25mm f/1.8 (or similar fast vintage glass), but this particular lens does not compatible on the L mount, Looking for vintage lenses that deliver a similar rendering, glow, and rich character.
Does anyone have standout wide vintage glass recommendations in those focal lengths that pair beautifully with the S5/Lumix. Thanks in advance!

PS - this screen grab is from YouTube / Neogray film

L-Mount HDMI lag of Lumix S1II

So I was thinking of buying the Lumix S1ii to start my cinematography career but I saw in a video where they mentioned the HDMI delay when connected to the external monitor. So has that been fixed by Lumix? And what kind of workarounds do you use? Which monitor is like the holy grail to be used with S1ii for like one time dono and dusted investment?

Thanks a lot for your help!!😃😃😃

General / Discussion I have an S9 on rental... now what?

I just received the S9 with the 18-40 kit lens on rental from Panasonic. I was really curious about this camera, recognizing some of the pros as well as limitations it has compared to my Sony A6700.

I've been mostly a photographer. What I like - full frame, size, and simple UI. What I am less of a fan of - no EVF!!!, no mechanical shutter, and oversimplified controls. In manual mode, the top dial controls aperture, but the back dial does shutter speed. Unfortunately, the back dial shares other controls and I have found myself entering menus I don't want. I'm sure this is both - a common issue and also something that gets better with use.

My question is, what do you recommend I try out while having this over the next week or so? I prefer street and travel photography. I'm curious about settings and features this may have. Also, I do a lot of monochrome photography, what is your favorite sim? I'm shooting right now with the Monochrome Leica.

Thanks in advance!
