AMA (Ask Me Anything)

IF YOU ARE A CANDIDATE and would like us to host an AMA, you must provide PROOF of ID (proof of identification tells our community you’re actually you— and not someone else pretending to be you!). Please [ contact the mods ] of this sub to have us set up an AMA thread for you. Please read our AMA requirements, how-to, etc → [ HERE ]

AMAs are a core part of Reddit culture. They are in essence, text-based Q-&-A interviews from the London, Ontario reddit community. The appeal of AMAs is it gives London, ON redditors the opportunity to interact with candidates in their municipality (of whom we might not otherwise have a chance to meet in person). In addition, there is an expectation of candour and substance in AMA exchanges.

.
CANDIDATE MEET-&-GREET Q & A, DEBATES, etc
Candidate "meet & greets," debates, & other meetings are usually organized by local community groups or business associations.

The Urban League of London in collaboration with RogersTV will be hosting all candidate meetings for each of the city’s 14 wards to help keep Londoners informed. Meetings will take place between Sept. 9 and Oct. 1.
Below are the video links for each debate:

🥄food /restaurants /gastronomy Pad Kra Pao around London

Post image
17 Upvotes

I love pad kra pao (Thai dish pictured) and the only place I’ve seen it around London is Thaifoon. Sagi also has a version of it as well (which I’ve had and is really good). Does anyone know of other Thai places around London that has this?

I’ve checked a bunch of Thai restaurant’s menus online and I haven’t found anything else.

I know it’s easy to make at home and I do make it occasionally! But sometimes the takeout just hits different lol.

Thanks!

discussion / opinion Looking for friends

Hey there, 22/f, I have never made a reddit post, so this is me swallowing my pride for the sake of finding community… so please be nice, hopefully I am doing this right…
I’ve been in London for 5 years now and have had a rough time making friends. I live in my mothers home with my 25/f fiancée and feel like no one my age is looking for community or a village anymore, I’m currently not working, or in school, just trying to find myself.
I don’t like to drink or party (though I’m a smoker..) so it makes it quite difficult.
How do you find people that align with you? How do you find real people who are authentic, kind, and accepting ?
I’m sure this is an issue for lots of people in any city, hoping to find some hope and kindness, or suggestions. Facebook can be brutal… especially neighbourhood groups, maybe I am too naive.

Housing & Rental 🏠 Where's the affordable housing?

Am I just crazy or a complainer? All that's going up is corporate rentals (which are not homes) and luxury properties. Is this what we're gentrifying low and middle income neighborhoods and tearing up every last bit of farmland for? Look at the monster they built where the asylums used to be. I am disappointed. There's no candidate municipal, provincial or federal who would even dare utter the words "austerity housing" or "single family homes."

discussion / opinion Parking

I’m staying with my Bf this weekend, staying tomorrow-Sunday and I need help finding cheap parking. The lot outside his apt is very expensive. Is the HONK app legit? There’s a lot near him that’s 80ish $ which for me is reasonable for 5 days of parking.

News 📰 Car window smashed… AGAIN.

40 days ago I posted basically the same photo of my car window broken. I am so frustrated, angry and full of impotence. I don’t know what else to say I just wanna point 2 things:

Police statement according to the lady in office: “We will TRY to send more patrols but this not considered an emergency for police department”. This is happening all over the city it’s unbelievable they are not even trying to protect us.

If you see Pier 4 manages a rental building DO NOT RENT THERE:

  1. Garbage in the lobby and elevators every week.
  2. No lighting, cameras or signs in parking lot.
  3. Can’t make sure people respect your PAID parking spot.
  4. If something goes wrong they’ll say “sorry, there’s no much we can do”
  5. The list can go on but all in all, terrible management, I feel so ignored. We haven’t left because we like the apartment design but this is too much.

Be careful, protect your cars and/or… Are there any good rentals in St. Thomas? 😅
God bless us all.

Ask a Local! Can anyone recommend someone local to help with desk cable organizing?

I’ve checked on task rabbit and couldn’t find anyone who specifically helps with this. I am terrible with this sort of thing, so please no comments about how it’s easy and I should be able to do it myself. 🙂

Ask a Local! Looking for live band recommendations in London, ON

Planning a 40th birthday party and looking to hire a live band. Ideally, we’re looking for a band with a really well-rounded music catalogue that can play a bit of everything and keep a mixed crowd entertained and on the dance floor.

Think classic rock, 60s/70s/80s hits, 90s and 2000s throwbacks, some country, pop, and other crowd-pleasers!

Would love to hear recommendations from anyone who’s hired a band for a private event or seen a local band they’d highly recommend. Bonus points if they have videos of live performances!

discussion / opinion The most London IKEA

Visited the new IKEA today and it is the most London version I could ever imagine.

Looks like it opened about two months too soon. Feels completely unfinished. Shelves were in shambles and lots of missing stock. Not an employee to be seen on the floor anywhere.

Normally there’s a flow to an IKEA store, the arrows are a guide but you can generally tell where the main aisle is and where to go next. However in this store I found myself often looking over at other areas and wondering “have I been in there yet?”. Trusting the process, I followed the arrows but I’m pretty sure I missed an entire section.

The only two store employees I saw were at the checkouts. They were kept exceedingly busy by redirecting people back into line who attempted to use the abundance of inexplicably closed checkouts.

Hoping for a meatball-shaped reward to end my journey, I was sadly disappointed to find the only meat available was tubular. I placed my order at a very poorly placed kiosk which is located at a natural choke point. After waiting a length of time, no doubt determined by a roll of polyhedral dice, the two employees sprang into action. To my surprise there were nearly a half dozen orders ahead of mine. Considering the only menu option contained an equal number of components to the employees on hand, you’d think they’d be well ahead of the game, and yet…

After receiving a bun that went straight from a wonder bread bag, to a storage tin for precisely a nanosecond (processes are processes, I get it. Can’t possibly go from bag directly to box. That would be blasphemy), I received my massively overcooked hot dog. Which begs the question, what the heck were we all waiting to be served for? Dogs ready. Buns in bag. Perhaps we had to wait until hot-dog-o’clock. Then for perhaps the most disappointing part of the entire experience. No KETCHUP! Mustard for days though. Sadly, no Lingonberry juice either. Just a faintly yellow liquid in its place. I begrudgingly at that dry glizzy and left.

So if you’re thinking of going to IKEA Whiteoaks around Christmas, here’s my advice. You can easily get to Burlington in less time than it’ll take you to battle through the myriad of half-functioning lanes on Wellington then find a parking spot in the ever-disappearing “parking lot” at the mall. And you’ll be rewarded with what you actually want to buy, and those sweet, sweet, balls in brown goo.

How very London, indeed.

Municipal Elections 2026 Mayor election results by ward?

Is there a way to see the mayor election results in each particular ward of the city? I was able to find that for Toronto and it was very interesting but I can't seem to find that option for London...
