Practice Reading Practice

Post image

I need to read more and after completing the Kanji Kentei 8級 (ES grade 3), my husband bought me the How To Train Your Dragon series in Japanese ヒックとドラゴン. My goal is to read everyday for 20 minutes, so around 5 pages. It's not a lot, but I have kids and a house to keep and other studying to do. Lots of vocab I didn't know in the first chapter, but the difficult kanji has furigana. The grammar was fine.

The font of the katakana on the cover is really cool

The book has excerpts and the map written in that font! I like it too

Passing a kanji test made for third graders and then still meeting lots of new words in chapter one is a very honest picture of learning Japanese. Five pages a day with kids and a house to run will add up fast.

After the exam, I was feeling pretty confident and then I started reading and I was like "okay I know half that word..." lol

I'll bet if you keep with this for a while you will be able to finish more than 5 pages in 20 minutes.

Yeah.... My kids are 4 and 1 so right now, I sit down, and they're climbing all over me so unless they grow up before December...

I just meant to be encouraging about the fact your reading speed will improve with consistent practice. Not really sure what you mean to imply by this reply but my kid is also four.

Neat! I loved reading those to my boys in English; I bet there's a lot of fun adjectives to learn in Japanese 😂
