Next August Wexford should be playing in the new stadium, it will only be the first phase of the stadium development and it’ll be on Astro official announcement is due to be announced in next few weeks, some members of the trust etc have already received the details of the plan

Shame it's on astro, but otherwise good news. It's supposed to be in the town (or close at least) as well is that right?

Yeah it’s in the town but it’s a decent walk from the nearest train/bus station if fans are coming via public transport. It’s not far from where the GAA stadium is.

At least close to the pubs and everything though? Maybe shuttles could be intro'd as well?

Yeah there’s 3/4 within a ten minute walk

From what I heard there won't be a astro

Think that’s the plan when it’s finally finished

Unreal, ferricarrig has been a big obstacle with getting attendance numbers up at wexford since forever. It’s just so far away from the town and the transport is very scarce.

Having the stadium in town will undoubtedly help

All seater? Also any plans to have LeD advertising boards or the traditional ones?

The finished product is due to have 6k seats but that won’t be what we’re playing on next year, unsure about the led advertising !

Not received anything and I'm apart of the Trust. Given the club haven't told us who these investors were from last December, the lack of communication on anything is lacking from the top brass.

The investors were Tony and a few lads already putting money in Morrissey and Will. John Godkin has put it up a good bit on social media about the announcement and I was shown the plans by someone in the trust so presumed they all had it !

Richmond is making progress, but slowly.

The local authority plan to buy the houses on Emmet Road to expand the main stand. The last I heard, there were three houses not yet purchased and the Council is trying to negotiate a sale rather than go the compulsory purchase route, which is expensive and complex.

I don't know about Oriel, I'm afraid.

Unfortunate timing to be buying houses even if the owners didn't know they needed them. Hopefully it works out. Kicking myself for never going to experience Richmond while living in Dublin despite walking past it a good few times. Same with Tolka Park.

What would the capacity be for Richmond when the main stand is expanded?

I haven't seen a figure quoted so I don't know, I'm afraid.

There is great support for Pats so I imagine a few thousand more could be possible.

Wasnt there meant to be plans for building a new 12k stadium which would Nh far be the best in the league? What ever happened to that? Is it dead now or still in talks?

Yes there was a very ambitious plan to develop a shopping and leisure centre nearby, with a stadium on the roof. There is a similar stadium in the Balkans (maybe in Serbia) that they used as a model. Richmond Park would eventually have been converted into housing under that plan.

The Council rejected the proposal and are instead developing housing on the site Pats proposed for the new stadium, so Pats' only option is to develop Richmond.

In fairness, the Council have been helpful by buying properties on Emmet Road to facilitate the expansion, and Pats' proposal probably carried more risk than the plan they ultimately chose.

The stadium will probably look a little odd when finished, but quirky and unique can be good.

Some stuff on other stadia:

Looks like Harps will be pressing ahead with their new stadium under Gonzalez, with Finn Park to be kept for the ladies' team and possibly underage teams as well. Unknown if they'll do anything to touch it up.

Sligo's redevelopment of The Showgrounds has been put on hold, meaning it will not be completed until 2029. Bad news at a bad time for them.

CK United are set to move back to Buckley Park, having today played their final game in Carlow. Be interesting to see how it looks, volunteers have been hard at work all year to get it tidy. Potential to be the best ground in the National League.

Buckley park is looking good, stadium wise, no idea what's happening with parking tbf

Im a kilkenny fan of Ck utd and was skeptical of playing in SETU but after seeing the team play there, Buckley park actually has a lot to live up to in terms of how organised SETU was, outstanding facilities over there 👏

Freddy is spending circa €1m on Finn Park immediately. New pitch being laid next week and work starting at the ground that will be complete next summer.

Well on Tolka Park, Shels spent over €1 million this season to waterproofing, electrical upgrades and installing 800 brand new seats and reopening the Drumcondra Stand. They fitted out Family Zone Cafe at the top of the stand. There was also a new perimeter fencing to meet UEFA regulations. This means that all four end of Tolka are open for LOI games.

Over the past few seasons they have intalled brand new premium seating, a new LED scoreboard, full refurbished of the dressing rooms and toliets and installed a new PA system, on top of murals and painting and basic ground work. Also Set up an outdoor bar and fan zone in the corner of stand.

Shels where also able to secure €9.2 million towards future work on Tolka Park this past May.

I love the Drumcondra stand as it is now. I'll still usually opt for Riverside, but on a Friday of a particularly long week, or on a really rainy evening, it's a perfect spot to grab a seat in

Any idea when the next development from the 9.2 million is taking place?

2

u/No_Worker_7653 2d ago

The 9.2 million isn't confirmed yet. They have to go out and contact all those immigrant investors and see if they still want to actually invest in the scheme... I believe

work on the showgrounds isn’t starting till this time next year, which unfortunately means work won’t be completed till spring of 2029

Supposedly we've an announcement coming in the next few weeks. No clue what the details of it are.

I honestly won't believe anything about a new stadium for us until I'm sat in it watching a game.

I spoke with Rían Wogan in August and he confirmed what you said, asked him for more details but said he legally couldn’t give anymore haha

What’s the story with Turners Cross? Any plans to do anything?

4

u/palmpoolpipe 3d ago

Don't think there's anymore space for extra development and it's already an all seater stadium.

Also complicated by the fact the club don't own the stadium. The stadium is probably big enough for the time being as well unless there's a significant rise in supporter numbers.
