Trump jokes his promised $5,000 worker dividend would only buy "a hamburger and a small dessert" at Mar-a-Lago.

• Upvotes

While pitching a proposed $5,000 payout to citizens if his party controls the midterms, the President joked that the money would barely cover lunch at his private resort, adding, "that's not a good place if you're price-conscious."

It is incredibly telling that a life-changing amount of money for a struggling family is casually brushed off as pocket change for a club lunch. How are regular people supposed to trust politicians to fix the cost of living when they are this completely insulated from the reality of a grocery bill?

💭 Theory Capitalism & The Housing Crisis: Those who control housing production don’t want the crisis to end, because our crisis is their fortune. And so they behave in ways that create this crisis, intentionally.

🖌 Agitprop The American Dream™

I pledge allegiance to the economy,
and to the markets for which I labor,
one nation, under capitalism,
indebted, with bills and taxes for all.

With liberty and justice
for those who can afford them.

I pledge to work until my body gives out,
to measure my worth in productivity,
to call exhaustion ambition,
and obedience discipline.

I shall earn my right to live,
compete for the privilege of security,
and call it freedom when I am allowed to choose
between the options I can afford.

I shall not question why survival has a price,
why the wealthy inherit freedom,
or why the rest of us must spend our lives
trying to buy what they already own.

I shall stand, hand over heart,
reciting words about freedom
while surrendering my time to survive,
mistaking the right to choose
for the freedom to refuse.

And I shall teach my children to do the same,
until they mistake rules for reality,
routine for destiny,
and the system for human nature.

I shall call this opportunity.
I shall call this responsibility.
I shall call this the American Dream.

May I one day earn enough freedom points
to afford the freedom
I was promised at birth.

💬 Discussion The midterms won't save us. The last time Democrats swept Congress, we got Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema for our trouble.

1.1k Upvotes

The master's tools really won't demolish the master's house.

Watch as Democrats take over both Congress chambers, yet magically end up hamstrung by a convenient cast of rotating villains.

Not to mention that a 2/3 majority vote in the Senate is mandatory for any meaningful change to be made, while the talking sack of orange diarrhea in the Oval Office will doggedly veto any helpful legislature that somehow does pass.

Ten Republicans will sooner snip off their balls with rusty scissors before breaking ranks to vote with Democrats.

Feel free to vote. But voting is not the panacea that liberals like to think it is.

EDIT: Thank you all for your engagement. I want to make it abundantly clear that I am NOT suggesting apathy or pessimism. Rather, I'm saying that as long as corporate interests have their shafts buried in our government's ass, meaningful change will likely be hampered by a few standout pieces of shit just as Enema and Buttmunchin did. Voting isn't enough.
We need to forcibly remind these people who they really work for, however inconvenient it may be for them.
