Election season is upon us - Reminders of the rules around posts.

Greetings everyone, with the election season around the corner, we have had to remove more and more posts and comments that break the rules. We remind you that this sub is neutral on politics, and allow the community to lead the engagement as much as possible. Discussion is encouraged, advertising is not.

Here is a guide to what is (and isn't) allowed this season:

IF YOU'RE IN LOCAL POLITICS:

"I'm a local council member or candidate, can I advertise my parties platform" - NO, if you like we are willing to host an AMA for you, provided you engage the community. We encourage this.

"I'm not a council member, but I am affiliated with a candidate, member, or slate, Can I post ads about my party?" No, it is still considered advertising from a direct source.

"I'm a council member or candidate, can I engage the community in the comments?" You bet - but it is encouraged that you identify yourself.

IF YOU'RE JUST A REGULAR COMMUNITY MEMBER:

"I'm not affiliated with anyone, am I allowed to express my opinions and thoughts on the candidates and their platforms?" ABSOLUTELY.

"I'm not affiliated with anyone, can I discuss ads or policies I've seen?" YES - discussing the ad is different from posting ads.

"Can I talk sh\t about candidates and platforms?"* YES, keeping in mind both the Reddit terms of service, and community rule #1.

You can read about your local candidate here.

Langley business owners — drop your business below so people can discover you 👇

2 weeks ago I asked everyone to list their favourite local businesses, and the response was unreal

Tons of great suggestions and a bunch of places I’d never even heard of.

This time, let’s flip it.

If you run a local business in Langley, drop it below.
Share what you do, your link, and anything you want the community to know.

There are a lot of people here who want to support local, and it’d be great to see what everyone’s building.

Looking forward to checking them out.

Cheers,
Anthony

Fireworks in Langley

This sub is going to become inundated with posts about fireworks again like it does every year.

To new or incoming residents this is your reminder that the fireworks will go off in waves from October all the way to the New Year.

EVERY YEAR.

This is historically how it is in Langley, get used to people celebrating and get things that help buffer the noise because it's never changing as we have a diverse community of people who celebrate Dia De Los Muertos, Diwali, Halloween, Indigenous Peoples Day, Oktoberfest, Canadian and American thanks giving, and Rememberance Day and so on.

Long time residents don't care, we're used to.

I know about the famous 209A street, but are there any other good streets to visit with kids? Not to trick or treat, but to check out the decorations, thx!

Toddler spider man costume

Hello, my nephew is 2.5 years old and is obsessed with Spider-Man. My sister just informed me that she procrastinated and failed to get his Halloween costume and cannot find it at spirit Halloween. Wondering if anyone has spotted extra ones at any locations, or has one they are willing to part with. This would make his Halloween!

Thank you!

I almost called the cops because it woke me up so suddenly and so loudly.

Whst exactly is wrong with you?

Edit: for everyone who cant seem to use common sense when reading: i thought about calling the cops for about 5 seconds because I WAS WOKEN FROM A DEAD SLEEP AT 2AM TO A NOISE THAT SOUNDED LIKE A GUNSHOT. For the love of god I am as acab as anyone else. The virtue signaling is so unnecessary lol

Affordable painter (house interior) and hardwood refinisher/matcher recommendations

Hello.

Does anyone have recommendations for these? Someone great but still affordable.

As for hardwood, hoping to refinish existing hardwood, remove some tiles and match to existing hardwood, and also 2 rooms of carpet/tile replaced with laminate.

Thank you!

Appliance delivery service?

Hi. I want to buy a dryer from Costco that is not available online. It's heavy and can't fit in our car. Costco has third party delivery & installation service for $200. The company is called MTAR.

I wonder if anyone has experience with thia company or other alternatives?

I'm thinking if it's worth it if I rent a U-Haul and buy some appliance moving straps to do this myself.

Thnks.

6-storey building: Why is Langley City so anti-housing?

I watched the VOD from the BC BUILDS 6-storey project council meeting hearing thing, that will now probably be dead in the water with the new council.

Why was it hated? I heard a few people saying OCPs can't be changed, but isn't that the whole point of OCP amendments?

Swinger/Eagle Heights, please enlighten me.

Sleeping bag dry cleaning

Looking for a dry cleaning service that can do sleeping bags… have 6 that need a good wash etc… preferably in the Willowbrook area. Called around and either got the answer of we don’t do sleeping bags or you’re looking at $180 a sleeping bag and we can’t guarantee that it won’t be damaged which is kind of bizarre but I get it…..

If nothing else, it signals they think there's a small chance they can win back Langley-Willowbrook. It was really, really close last time.

Best Options For Packages, & Mail

I'm looking for recommendations for a secure place in Langley to have my mail and packages delivered.

Due to ongoing package theft and issues with the neighbours in the shared home I rent, I'm looking for a reliable alternative to having deliveries sent to my address.

Ideally, somewhere I can receive:

  • Regular mail
  • Amazon and other online orders
  • Larger packages and deliveries

I'm open to a PO Box, private mailbox rental, or a package receiving service. I'm also fine with paying a monthly or yearly fee.

What services do you use, and would you recommend them? Any suggestions in Langley would be appreciated!

Does anyone actually want amalgamation for the Langleys?

Back at it again with a big question.

I've heard both sides lately, so I'll ask you, Redditors.

Given that Mack did mention a referendum would be something they'd put up if her team got in, what happens if the referendum was in favour of giving independence up?

Does anyone know why between 264th and Mt Lehman on both sides of the highway this late afternoon/evening, traffic was so blocked up. Took me nearly 2.5 hours to cover the distance between the two exits.
